I needed some really beautiful heavy duty hinges for my new doors, each door leaf weighs over 100kg so I was not going to try a typical butt hinge, these hinges over a totally concealed solution and are high security.
The hinges are fully adjustable once installed and allows 3D movement, particularly useful for final adjustment and periodic adjustment
I really enjoyed fitting these hinges and once I read up on the basics about the installation it was plain sailing

It is obvious to me that Robin is motivated by the love of his craft. Those doors will let anyone who visits the domain know what the king and his castle r all about. Setting up the jigs with those tiny shims might seem over the top, but R likes to do things within a gnat’s rear end of tolerance. The interaction with the school was really cool. Just like the hammer, R always has his little plane handy for the touch up. A workman is worthy of his hire, and the domain ain’t cheap. Without trespassing to much on the privacy, it would b nice to have a little tour of the present state of the home project. Thank u!!

To set an accurate depth on a router. I set the router bit to touch the work piece. Then on the depth set up I ignore the scale and use a drill shank. I have a set or drills from 2.5 up to 13.5mm in 0.5mm increments so its spot on. You can make up accurate spacers for deeper cuts too.

By far the best Tectus installation video I've come across. Would be good to know which collet extension you're using, and which 24mm bit. I've found the hard way that the CMT extension is larger at the collet than the 30mm guide bush, so it impedes the plunge. I've had to source a 1/4" shank extension and a 1/4" 24mm bit so it would work, and all that is on the way. Will have to take more passes than would be needed with a 1/2" shank.

Great looking doors and hinges! I know they can handle the weight but were you tempted to do the old adage "a pair and half" for the hinge count?

What size bushing guide did you use with the 24mm bit to get the proper size mortise with the jig? I’m using the same hinges and jig but don’t have the right one (I’m in America and all mine are imperial) so will have to order something. Thanks for the great video!

Hi Robin. I have some CEAM hidden hinges that look as if they are set centre to the door, not 4mm from the inside. It’s a standard thickness door (45mm). So, as a standard thickness door I’m assuming that setting these hinges at 22mm is ok?

Nice work Clevett. It's gonna make a great sound when you use them. Them there screws look a bit on the short side to catch the core. Do you find that the screws that companys supply with stuff are usually made from cheese.
@ukconstruction
@ukconstruction 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I always start with the supplied screws!! In the case of these hinges so much of the load is taken through the mortice you form when they are installed, in the frame I used my own longer screws and these where 50mm as opposed to the ones supplied, my plan is that I will monitor the doors and if I see any movement of the hinge then I will replace with some longer ones, I do agree about screw supplied with some ironmongery, sometimes they are just wrong or in the case of ploished chrome the type you get with some handles and hinges they are as soft as butter!! I often use all my own screws in place of supplied!!!

Hi Robin, could you route out those hinges with the sober jig with the correct size cutters?
@ukconstruction
@ukconstruction 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, I didn't even consider using the souber, in the case of smaller Simonswerk hinges then maybe, especially if the fore end is no more than 25mm, the hinges I used are around 36mm wide so that maybe to much for the souber? you have me thinking now!!!!
@KevinGarcia-yp5rk
@KevinGarcia-yp5rk 3 жыл бұрын
Your right there, Souber cutters only go up to 32mm, it would only help you cut out the main body of the hinges. Unless you did it with two passes with a smaller cutter with the off centre jig for the plate. Before Dropping the hinge in and tracing the plate and manually routing out the bottom and top radius. Pretty much the same about of effort of what you are doing already . If only those hinges was slightly smaller, I do really like them.

Hi Robin, nice job mate. My only concern would be the potential for a 100kg door to slam shut in a gust of wind and either take someones fingers off or shake the frame to bits. It's bad enough with a heavy fire door. Does the hinge have any sort of built in friction to stop them slamming ?
@simonswerkuk
@simonswerkuk 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, there is no built in closing/friction device for TECTUS but the hinges can be used with concealed overhead door closers to maintain the 'concealed door' effect

Can these hinges be fit into a standard 3/4” jamb with the trimmer stud behind the jamb mortised? Or should they be installed in a 1.5” jamb?
@ukconstruction
@ukconstruction Жыл бұрын
Thicker jamb the better, its more about the screws having enough to bite into, the actual body of the hinge can mortice through the frame if needs be but the screws will need extra solid grounds behind the frame if that was the case, also it would depend on how heavy the doors where etc
@lapseofeternity
@lapseofeternity Жыл бұрын
@@ukconstruction thank you! I think then I can use longer screws so that they go through the 3/4" jamb, the shims all the way into the trimmer stud. Door weight is probably 80-100 pounds.
