Unpopular opinion, but this dissonant era is my favorite. The range in Kurt's voice is amazing, and the songs are just so heavy and dark. I know Cobain will forever be known as a pop star, but this stuff was just so grimey and real.

It's fun to think about when this actually was taking place -- right in the middle of the hair metal scene.

Dale Crover is such a beast

How are they this good, this early? What an incredible performance from a very young band at this point. This version of If You Must is better than the recorded version in my opinion. And that guitar tone, especially on Floyd The Barber is devastating!

Kurt was the chorus pedal's master .

I think it's pretty clear that Kurt wanted Dale as Nirvana's permanent drummer, but Dale being a Melvin-4-life meant that wasn't gonna happen. So Dave ended up being the next best thing (power with precision and subtlety).

I had a homemade cassette of b-sides & bootlegs when I was 15 ('95) and I had all the albums, Incesticide my fav of them then. I aways wondered why 75% of the b-sides cassette sounded so gritty and so good and why I couldn't get, or learn about (pre internet) those tracks 'officially' anywhere. This could be an official album right here - the early pre-bleach Nirvana sound was def THE Nirvana sound - not that the rest wasn't - just that this stuff was the real beginning worthy of a real album! If you took the tracks from inceseticide & Bleach out and added D7, Return of the Rat, Talk to Me, etc that's a whole unique album and a fn REALLY GREAT one.
