Couldn’t agree more. Not only that, but they put you in his head while having it. Everything just drops away and it’s all about the panic attack in that moment and getting out is the first, second, and third priority in your brain. Extremely well done. I think George nailed it: whoever wrote that part has dealt with it and knows what it’s like.

If you watch throughout the series, there are small little moments of Roy taking notice of Isaac and how he quietly evolves. The hints are there but it's very subtle. Like when they are watching Iron Giant and Isaac tells a teammate to put their phone away during the movie, you can see Roy behind them taking note.

Hannah Waddingham singing breaks me every time. She just has joy in her power and for a minute just basks in the love of her friends. This is why I adore this show. Ted’s optimism isn’t the cure to people’s problems, it just drowns out the negativity so that everyone can work on themselves and find their own cures. Rebecca coming to his aid shows that this is a feedback loop that helps him, too. Kindness feeding on itself. It’s a little simplistic, but I see this show as Mr. Rogers for adults. It’s a reminder that the world sucks and hurts us, but we don’t have to feed the pain.

Rebecca's heartfelt apology and Ted's immediate forgiveness is such a sweet, empathetic moment. I tend to dislike super overly nice characters because so often it veers into a character flaw of being a doormat who is unable to set boundaries or stand up for themselves (or just plain stupidity) but Ted is clearly capable of advocating for himself & others (and is highly intelligent) His kindness is clearly a choice and deliberately cultivated on his part which makes it all the better.

Ted's pause as he considered the matter was just perfect. It wasn't just automatic, but something he thought deeply about before coming to his decision.
@peteryang5056
@peteryang5056 9 ай бұрын
@@reverance_pavane I love that you can see him get genuinely angry for just a moment after Rebecca confesses. There are viewers who think Ted knew what Rebecca was doing all along, but I think he was truly blindsided by it. And isn't it honestly more admirable that he *felt* that anger and yet still managed to make his way through it to forgive Rebecca, than if he had known all along?

And it's a character trait that was not fully explained until late in the final season. It might not have been as consistently good as the prior seasons, but it pays-off so many emotional beats that were set up in the first season.

One of the things with Isaac being captain is light in the show. Once he gets out of Jamies' shadow being one of his underlings in the first episode, he becomes more more responsible and team focused. There isnt much, but it is small things like him then making room on the becnh for Nate, telling the other guy to get off his phone whilst they are watching the Iron Giant, and then throwing the chair at the TV when Jamie is talking bad about the team. He is largely a side character this season but most the team are side characters, and hes one that we've seen be more team leaderlike. Course, it could very well be that the only reason is he's kind of similar to Roy.
@esweeney47

Agreed. In the moment, I was also shocked that Isaac was chosen. But upon re-watching, there were a lot of small moments over the course of the season that are shown in the background of a scene that implied a character arc. This show was really well planned out.

There were little signs, and it's also obvious on re-watching that Roy noticed the little things Isaac was doing that made him choose Isaac when it was time. Just one off the top of my head from this section of episodes: The scene at 15:38 in this video, shortly after this edit, Ted is clicking the pen to sign the document, but you can clearly see he's actually "unclicking" it (the ballpoint retracts), yet he then proceeds to sign without clicking again.

Yeah, join the very large club. I told you that it saved my life, and I meant it. Just as I was going to give up on my fellow man, and I mean that, this show came along. I really believe that the backbone of the show was Jason's breakup of his relationship with Olivia Wilde, and the fact that they had two kids. Even though they remain friends, they no longer live as a family ... and I believe that is where the heartfelt emotion of the show begins. It's truth. I simply love that back and forth with you two, such a wonderful friendship and combination of skillsets. The greatest gift of this show is, of course, the feels ... but it never ceases to be incredibly beautiful. There are a couple of "filler" episodes in the coming two seasons, as Apple asked for two additional episodes each season, and Jason had plotted the story out for three ten episode seasons in his amazing brain ... but they each have a beauty of their own. They're just not as deeply related to the long story as much. I feel the angst of waiting for you to get to season two, because I know what's coming. We had to wait about two years for season three because of the damn bullcrap Mother Nature threw at us, attempting to rid herself of the "fleas" that cause her damage and pain, but it was well worth it ... and your wait is only as long as you choose. I'm with you 'till the end of the line. (You know where that's from, George!). I really wish that I knew the two of you when I was younger, I would have had a great time at the movies!

In regards to Roy picking Isaac as captain, there a few moments in the season that point to it, not just the chair getting thrown. When they are watching Iron Giant on movie night, Isaac is telling other teammates to get off their phones, and Roy notices. Also, another time in the locker room, Ted tells everyone to sit down and Isaac scoots over and pats the seat next to him to make room for Nate, Roy notices this as well. Isaac was one of Nate's bullies, so that's a big change from him. I think Roy recognizes Isaac's growth because he sees a lot of himself in Isaac.

I get what George was saying about Roy giving the captain’s job over to Isaac. There wasn’t a lot of *overt* build up to it. If you guys go ahead and do a rewatch in your own time (which I highly recommend you do) you’ll see lots of little background things. Subtle hints that Roy was always watching for who he’d make next captain. Stuff like that needs a rewatch, because it becomes really clear when you know what you’re looking for. That’s the beauty of great writing. The subtleties stay in the background until you can’t not see them. I’m really enjoying watching you guys discover this show.

The "Do you believe in miracles" thing is from the 1980 Winter Olympics when the rag tag US amateur hockey team beat the Russians. This was in the day when pros weren't playing, and even though the Russian team weren't "pros," they kinda were. They were the best of the best and practiced as a team full time. The US team was a bunch of college players who started practicing together a few weeks before the games. As the (SPOILER) US team was about to defeat the mighty Soviet machine for the gold medal, I think the announcer was Al Michaels, and he said, "Do you believe in Miracles??" And of course they made a movie about it eventually. Maybe more than one even? But the one I'm thinking of had Kurt Russell playing the american coach. So that's why it's from real life and the movies.

Some fun Ted Lasso trivia: Brett Goldstein who plays Roy Kent is a writer on the show After a while of writing Roy, Goldstein knew he could play the role, but he was sure no one else in the writing room would feel the same because he was such a soft-spoken guy. So he made an audition tape on his own and sent it to Sudeikis with a note that said "If this is stupid, please throw it away and pretend you never saw it." After auditioning and offering the role of Rebecca to Hannah Waddingham, the writers and Sudeikis found out how talented she was as a singer. One of the writers said "it's too bad Rebecca doesn't sing." Sudeikis said, "She does now." Jane, Coach Beard's girlfriend, is also a writer on the show, as is Bex - Rupert's new girl. The woman who plays Higgins' wife is his wife in real life.

If you go back and watch again, the captain thing isn't random. When Jamie first gets benched, Isaac is the one who first offers Nate a place to sit which Roy notices, during the team screening of the Iron Giant, it's Isaac that gives a player a stern look for checking his phone as the movie plays and again, the camera softly shift focus to show Roy in the background taking note. This show is great at planting seeds that you need to go back and check again because you were too busy noticing the bigger belly laughs or the tugs at the heart strings.

Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Do the next two seasons . Your hearts might not be able to handle it . Season 1 is probably the “worst” season of them all , imho . This show is amazing. I HAVE TO see how many boxes of tissues Simone goes through during session 3

Nah, Season One is easily the most solid overall. The later seasons get a little too ambitious for their own good.

@@legendaccount3247 rewatching season 1 with my GF and I was taken aback how much time is spent character building , which of course makes sense . I feel that the other two seasons move at a quicker pace . More jokes , more call backs , along with character building . Regardless , amazing show

Episode 7 the panic attack moment is peak Bill Lawrence masterful tone shift. For Scrubs fans the 1st panic attack scene reminds me close to: "Where do you think we are?" from Scrubs.

I’m loving your reactions to this show! I know other people have said it, but one of my most favorite scenes from the whole series is the dart scene, and within that, Ted’s quiet threat when Rupert insults Rebecca.

When I first watched the show, I felt like I wasnt gonna enjoy higgins as he was just gonna be the bumbling punchbag henchman for the bad guy (rebecca). For him to then show that hes just this really nice family man who likes ted and wants the best for the team despite rebecca was great. Loved when he finally yelled at her just "fuck off".

Rebecca's apology to Ted is good, but... my personal favorite scene is her eyes increasingly welling with tears as Rupert talks to her prior to that scene.

i know issac being the new captain feels out of nowhere but there was signs in earlier eps. here's the ones i saw, he told his teammate to get off his phone during the movie. he was also was the one to tell Jamie to setup the cones after he tried to get collin to do it. he also lets Nate sit next to him during one of Ted's speeches. But i did feel like it was out of nowhere too, so i get why people feel that way. just shows how well this show is written, that you can go back and see or hear things that come into play later.

This show came out at the end of 2020, one of the worst years in recent memory. If ever we needed something honest and hopeful that made us believe in people and goodness, it was that year. Ted Lasso could not have come out at a better time. 🥰

After party is an apple show I think most people sleep on. It is unique in that each episode is shot in a different way to portray "tropes" in films and tv. Highly recommend, especially season 2

There's a Korean drama called Hot Stove League that has similar vibes. The leads are different, but the story is about a guy coming in as a new manager for a failing baseball team in order to save it. Lots of heart in that too.

The show started as a commercial. Jason Sudeikis playing a college football coach who became a Soccer coach in England. Funny commercial, right? Well somebody thought Jason's character was funny enough to make into a show. And the rest was history.

The movie, and real life event, referenced by "Do you believe in Miracles" is Miracle, a biopic following the 1980 USA hockey team that pulled the "miracle on ice" by beating the USSR hockey team in the olympics.

"Miracle" is a great movie and highly recommended. While you all typically aren't big on sports, it is a hockey movie so maybe your Canadian-ness will help.

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy, appeared on Sesame Street - he does two scenes where he discusses football or games, and another with just Oscar the Grouch. It won't let me link, but you can search it out - there are a few Ted Lasso in-jokes relating to Roy, but no direct mentions or spoilers, and it should be safe for you. It's hilarious.
