If you want to see another exquisitely beautiful film that is another epic, and features Peter O’Toole in an impressive role, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND “The Last Emperor” (1987) directed by the Italian master Bernardo Bertolucci with cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, who used a complex symbology of colors. It was the first feature film allowed to film in the Forbidden City. All done on location in China (and Manchuria), with some interior sets shot in Italy. This was filmed using Technicolor. Technicolor was a special 3-strip film stock with its own cameras that required special training. Technicolor is known especially for its super saturated red and green colors, which could account for the highlighted blood color.
