I watched it and disliked it after I watched it. I don´t get how the way people watch this makes it any more true. His thesis is unfalsifiable. So it is pseudoscience bullshit.

Karl Popper was the originator of the distinction between _science_ and what he called _pseudoscience_. I urge you to look him up. It seams the US hasn´t gotten the message that empirisim and inductivism have been dead a century. Sociology is greatly corrupted and laughed at since the days of Freud. Thinking that adding tonnes of factors to your eqation will make it look more sophisticated is just childishly unscientific. You have to establish what you mean by "racism" befor you can quantify it. I mean come on this is school level common sense. What matters are the explanitions you develop. How much reach they have quantifies their relevane. A *good* explenation is hard to *vary*, which means that if you switch out any of its componants it doesn´t make sense anymore. If any of it´s parts are disproven the theory is gravely underminded. Theories are only verified by not being disproven and persisting. To achieve progress two factors are importand: *critisim* and *conjecture*. They are the foundation of knowlege, if you dont allow for one or both you´re allready discualified from being scientific and you earn the titel of pseudoscience if you claim otherwise. Now that we established what a good explenation is lets get into what sociology often gets wrong. Not all explenations are equal. For instance Freud could make any data point service to explain the problems of any given person, with for example both to much or to little attantion as a child. In good explenations like the current explenation for the seasons, if you only change the degree of the earths axis the hole explenation collapses. This acctually is a good thing. It is called falsifiability and is fundamental for science. English isn´t my fist language so I am sorry if some expressions sound a little bit odd. This subject has a lot more implications and is very imported to understand in order to navigate through the wave of bad science we face daily.

The youtube comment system makes it hard for me to reread this discussion I can´t see the comment to which I responded in the first place. Never the less I´ll try to answer as best as I can, just keep that in mind. Popper took on positivism and the like and earned a lot of respect for defeating them, but he is often misunderstood and the reach of his explenations is greatly underappreciated. His falibilism is not only the bases for good science today, but also of good philosophy. Ever since Popper introduced his crterion of dimarcation people have misunderstood him to say that testable science is the only thing that matters, when infact Popper himself had many philosophical theories which he himself valued very much. The truth is that the empirical and testible side to science is very small and allways theorylayden. What matters are the explenations underneith. Sociology like every other field is able to develop good explenations, but it is often held back by the misguided view that there are fundations to base ones theories (I would prefer to call them cretiques) on. This ted talk is a perfect example for this problem, because an explenation for what racism is and how it effacts human lifes is not explained, it is assumed. Since he only discusses corrilation it is clear that he doesn´t understand that they are meaningless without a propper explenation. I can demonstrate this with an example: In the seti project centre a champagne bottle is sitting in a shelf. If seti finds extraterrestrial life the bottle will be opend. This means that there is a close to 100% corrilation of the opening of that bottle and the existence of extraterrestrial life. In this situation the normal scientific explenations for opening a champagne bottle (pressure, kork decay) are irrellevent. The most important factor is whether there is life in the univers dicoverd or not. In order to explain why this bottle is being opened you need the right explenation, yet this ted talk doesn´t provide anything close to it. Now there are endlessly more things I would like to criticise, but I will leave it with this last one. He tells us and this should be a red flag for everyone, that he started with his conclusion and sought evedince for it (3:49). This will allmost allways lead you to bad science and is to make a far more important distinction unreasonable.

You're right in the sense that women, of all races, have worse health outcomes to men in some respects, but women are also more likely to visit a doctor over men.
