Following his fighter Michael Moorer's loss in his fight against George Foreman, Teddy Atlas revealed details about Foreman's resilience and journey to redemption. Foreman had previously been forced into retirement due to a loss to Muhammad Ali. Then, he spent a decade away from boxing, focusing on his faith and grappling with his defeat. However, Foreman could not be at peace without confronting his past, and thus returned to the sport. Teddy, however, regretted being unprepared for Foreman's powerful right-handed punch that Moorer had expected but failed to parry in the championship bout. Foreman wasn't just fighting for the title, but was also battling to reclaim his life. As a result of his victory, Foreman faced his fears and shortcomings, which Teddy believes makes him greater than Mike Tyson.

It’s hard to find moderate views on Lewis in particular. People either really highly rate him or think he was good but nowhere close to greatness. Id say he’s 10-12 all time. Great fighter, can’t quite see him as all time elite.

He acts like this bubbly friendly grandpa type but is certainly not . In Moore vs Forman legendary nights episode, Moore even said that Teddy told him that he is a fraud . Others have said similar things Teddy (and me also) … respect the guy’s accomplishments in the ring but that is beside the point . Foreman was so hurt by Ali’s defeat and lost identity that he just did not give up and found redemption in his comeback and did whatever it took even if it was putting on a fake persona

@zibtihaj3213 It's possible, but there's nothing to prove it except assumptions from people who didn't really know him and were, at the time, building up their mental approach to beating him. Noone knows what anyone outside their circles, or even in their circles, is truly like. All we know is what people choose to express. But I'll say this, it is hard for people to keep the mask from slipping and Big George never has. And he's helped his people, so give him that.

I recall this fight vividly. It was really a young vs old with Michael Moore having much more to lose. I remember being very torn after this fight. George was at the top of his game and super popular. We all wanted to see him win and be champ but it was sad to see Moore lose. Moore was not a bad guy.

Tyson was also much smaller and had to rely more on quickness and reflex to make his style work. Even with experience and skill, his style was always going to age more poorly than guys like Lewis, Foreman and even Ali whose reach could compensate for diminishing youth. I'm no Tyson fanboy, but Tyson did the best with what he had.

This is rather obvious to most boxing fans - Mike Tyson isn't the greatest heavyweight of all time but he is the most phenomenal. Foreman has more signature victories than Tyson but you can never deny the stunning abilities of the devastating 20 year old sensation.

He was a good boxer, without a doubt, but compared to Mayweather, Tyson etc., quality of his boxing was significantly lower. Boxers get stronger and technically superior with time. We shouldn’t blindly praise idols of the past only because they come from the past

I don’t think Tyson would last longer than 3 rounds if both would fight in their prime. Foreman is probably the most feared heavyweight in history with Sonny Liston. Also Foreman went 12 rounds in his 40's with Holyfield in his prime, While Tyson got Beat like drum to a stoppage in the 11th round.

@@enybrooklyn5482 It doesn't matter if he fought Lewis at an old age. Let's say it doesn't count but it's as good as not fighting Lewis in the first place. At least George fought everyone during their prime or close to it (Ali was a special case of course since he wasn't allowed to box). A boxer who fought everyone and lost is still greater than a boxer who never fought anyone. Tyson will always be the most talented heavyweight of all time (him and Ali) but he was never the same after his jail time.

Mike Tyson was far from perfect, he did some bad things that we all know about but many years on he has changed character, accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized on many occasions for certain things. He also had some shortcomings in the ring during his career when he did not live up to expectations, didn't deliver on the night and perhaps did not reach his full true potential. But I feel it is unfair to constantly take a negative stance on what Mike did or did not do during his life. He achieved truly great accomplishments as a young athlete. He still holds the record of youngest HW Champion ever, even after nearly 40 years. By age 21 he had collected up and unified the title which had been broken up and fragmented into different belts. He had a true love for boxing as a teenager, studied the legends of old to emulate them. He fulfilled the life-long dream of his old mentor. Avenged a brutal defeat of his boyhood hero Muhammad Ali. He defended himself on many occasions as the smaller man against big fighters that wanted his blood. His name "Tyson" had become the number one target that people wanted to take out. He's only seen as an executioner of victims that didn't fight back but that wasn't true. He went into the ring scared on many occasions and had to face adversity from men that did fight back. He just made it seem that way as the "executioner" because part of his art of war was to use the intimidation factor. Mike was not perfect, but deserves more respect from Teddy, but they have bad blood, so it is not easy for Teddy to let go of those demons and maybe never will.

I watched foreman fight when i was younger but that was once he was an older man, then i watched the movie and i assumed it would be wack but it turned out to really be a great story and love to hear teddy tell this, he really is a great man

I get where Teddy is coming from, but his diminishing of Mike's accomplishments kind of irks me. He is discounting what a huge feat it was for a scared kid from Brownsville to get in that ring time after time with that fear and doubt in his heart and rise to the pinnacle of the sport more quickly than anyone else in history. He struck fear into the hearts of the scariest men on the planet and had the whole world believing he could walk through walls. You could feel the electricity in the air when Tyson was about to come to the ring because you knew you were going to see something special. Saying Mike never had to actually overcome anything I feel like is completely unfair. Teddy knows what he's talking about and to a degree he's right, but despite his protests to the contrary when it comes to Mike I also feel like whatever he's sipping is slightly spiked with sour grape-flavored Hate-orade

Mike beat a bunch of cans. The only great fighters Tyson beat were larry holmes who was living in a retirement home and Michael Spinks who was 30 lbs lighter. Tyson never beat anyone GREAT in their prime, he's super overrated.

I agree with you to a certain extent but Teddys talking about the fights that mattered most (legacy fights). Tysons legacy fights were Michael Spinks (w), Evander Holyfield (L but I’m willing to admit that in those two fights Holyfield kept initiating headbutts), Lennox Lewis (L). George legacy fights Joe Frazier (W twice) Ali (L), Norton (W), Holyfield (L), Moorer (W) and if a die hard Lyle (W).

IMO, we never got to see Tyson's true potential. Cus died too early in his career and after that he lost a lot of his discipline. So ill agree that Foreman was better but I personally think Tyson had a higher ceiling.

Its unfortunate because I think Holyfield and Lewis were at their prime when Tyson faded. I mean even if he had Cus in his corner and he stayed off the partying and drugs by the time he fought those two, they would have outclassed him, Tyson would have been wrecked from the other fights he had.

We never got to see Foreman's true potential either. He retired at 28 and came back at 38. In his first career he was naive and stupid, and punched himself out in fights. His peak should have been during his retirement.

Totally disagree with Foreman being greater than Tyson. Tyson in his prime vs. Foreman in his prime would have been interesting, but Tyson skill wise was better. Ali himself said that Tyson would have beaten him and Ali was a bad boy jack! Foreman was fiercer than Tyson and had the better chin, the bigger heart. Tyson was an exceptionally skilled fighter who could have been the greatest heavyweight of all time but he also was a bully and like all bullies when he faced someone who wouldn't be scared of him and hold his own like an Evander Holyfield he would crumble.

@@MB-fo2sk I humbly disagree, Tyson did have a chin. Look how many rounds it took Holyfield to knock out an out of shape and undetermined Tyson! Also, consider how long it took Lewis to knock him out and he was obviously high on drugs and out of shape! Like I said before, Tyson beat Tyson. And I don't know what you think you know about Foreman in his earlier career but he was pretty much stand offish and considered in a negative light himself.
