The visual of him being this specific dude, wearing a hoodie and hidden behind hair, actually makes it cooler. Putting a face to the voice we see when we close our eyes. He’s adorable.

Marc, you hit the nail on the head when you said the vocalist needs to act out the emotional intention of the song. In my opinion, all of the power of vocal persuasion comes from a dynamic emotional portrayal of the lyrical storyline. With Teddy, in the same fashion a true A-list actor approaches their craft, he immerses himself in the lyrical message, then paints the picture with the character he knows best how to control to get that emotion across with spectacular intention. He is truly an anomaly among vocalists just about as captivating as Floor Jansen who is the lead singer in the Finnish band Nightwish. If you haven’t heard her do her thing, that’s one you HAVE to do a first time reaction to going in blind with Ghost Love Score performed live in 2013 at the Wacken Festival. Literally one of the most perfect live performances I have ever witnessed. I can’t wait to hear this Teddy in a couple years from now when he has some real financial juice behind him to truly live his music all day everyday. And that is exactly what he will do given it’s so obvious how deeply he loves his craft and the attention his talents have induced. You can tell the show offs that are in it for money and getting laid, lol. Teddy IS music and the fruits will just come since his focus is on the quality of his presentation and not the fruits of the passion which almost always rises a spectacular talent to a sustainable long term career instead of a flash in the pan. Make sense?? Great reaction and analysis. Thank you!!

So....you have found one of the three bearded gods of singing the sad, the blues and the sorrow. You are missing the two named Chris: Stapleton and Cläfford. I would suggest Kläfford with his kitchen session of "Ocean Eyes" and then Stapleton singing the most bluesy version of "Tennessee Whiskey" you will ever hear!

I've watched professionals react to teddy and too often they only hear the technical side. Rarely do they enjoy it like we do. Great job hearing both sides. Cover teddy... And I'll watch. That's the way most of his fans are. I believe he was also apart of metal group called Linkin Park. Resides near atlanta. Covid has slowed album with Warner.

That song is one of my lifetime favorites Bonnie raitt did an amazing job and I thought no one would ever top her and I've seen a lot of covers and no one came close, but he bested her and pretty much everyone he has covered. his voice is like butter is the only thing I think of ...even with the gravel it's still so soothing and soaks into your soul. I love singing have always I usually sing along ,not him I just close my eyes and absorb it. No matter how many times I've heard it. He is the real deal and you made a good point in the beginning and I've said it before some of the most successful people are the ones who don't let themselves get pigeonholed into one genre Kelly Clarkson would be someone I would say doesn't belong to any genres she is her own genre Teddy swims doesn't belong to any specific genre either I've seen him cover Rock I've seen him cover country I've seen him cover pop and it's all amazing.. I am ashamed to admit I had no idea who he was until the Meghan Trainor duet but gosh he is beyond amazing. I have since listened to almost his entire catalog. And just for laughs he threw in a song called Broke with Thomas Rhett hilarious song even funnier video just shows that he doesn't have to always be the soulful painful one.

You say, "Getting the message of the song across is always more important than a perfect vocal." An example: A couple years or so ago I was browsing KZfaq. I like to see the Got Talent shows from around the world and ran across an episode of Ukraine's Got Talent and the singer Yevgeny Litvinkovich. I don't speak Ukrainian, but I figured out he had to get permission from the judges to sing an Israeli song although in Ukrainian, or is it Russian? I don't understand a word, but Yegeny obviously "gets the message of the song across" to his audience. I invite you to watch it. It's a remarkable performance. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pq5-rLBhydKvqXU.html

I had never heard of Teddy Swims. No doubt, there is a natural voice which is at times is smooth, silky. That said, I personally am not a fan of a raspy voice. For me, it detracts from the lyrical, easy, relaxed sound that Teddy occasionally delivers. I suppose if one is looking for a singer who emotes, then Teddy's the one. I'm greedy so I want it all. The raspy voice is a clear sign of the imbalance of the vocal chords coming together and over time can lead to vocal damage. So, when I hear that raspy sound I'm reminded of "Uh oh...there's something vocally wrong." Teddy, in my opinion, has a fine instrument and at times it is pleasing to my ear. Just not a fan of the rasp. So, I am so looking forward to that video featuring Marc Daniel Patrick.
@Simplenotion
@Simplenotion 3 жыл бұрын
Rasp doesn't necessarily mean that there is (unintentional) imbalance. Those effects can be added on top of cleanly produced notes by using your false chords intentionally (as you can hear when he is clearly articulating a very clean and uninterrupted sound with vibrato under the effect) and even if it's done by "creaking" on vocal fold level, it can still be produced very controlled and won't damage your chords over time. There are countless singers that have used these effects for decades and still sound amazing (esp. in the rock/metal field). His usage of the rasp sounds completely controlled and intentional to me (I'm a vocal coach classically trained but now mainly working in pop/rock/mt).

I strongly disagree. The original video still exists, and by doing the commentary throughout the song, we know exactly what part of the song he’s talking about at any given moment. Most reaction channels suck. This one is gold :)
