Teddy's channel was made for those who really love watches and only for them. Whoever makes fun of other people ,cause they wear cheaper watches, and value a person according to his big pocket, can take their Richard Mille or other abominations, and stick it in their... Money can't buy good taste, and certainly can't make a nice character. Love you all my friends and greetings from Greece.

I have a Tag Heuer 2000 quartz that I bought new in 1997 (pre LVMH takeover). It has spent 90% of my days since then on my wrist. It has been serviced by Tag a couple of times and works perfectly and is extremely accurate. It never looks out of place with jeans and a t-shirt or a formal suit. It is an everyday essential that has served me well for over 26 years.

In my opinion this is the best way to own a watch. It’s been with you through thick and thin. Cars come and go, kids grow up and leave, even homes change occasionally. But your loyal timepiece has been at your side all this time. And sounds like it’s served you well. Brilliant 👍

I also have a 2000 but it's a early 80s Heuer 272.006 chronograph Albino dial. With the Heuer 185 super quartz movement 👌 and LOVE THAT WATCH. Just the fact it's one of the last "Heuer" only dials really gives it a special allure. Since Heuer became Tag Heuer in 1985

Back in 1999 through 2002, I had two of those. I was very hard on them. The first one was fixed and eventually replaced under warranty, and the 2nd one was lost. The tag was my main everyday watch. Back then I had two Movado Museum watches, one gold, on leather, and one SS on a bracelet that I barely wore. My pride and joy the Bond Seamaster 36 mm that I bought brand new at a jewelry store in the mall. A Fossil Chrono-Diver, and of course a Timex digital. All Quartz watches. At the time I had zero idea what an automatic was. I still have all of them, except the Tag. I still wear the Seamaster regularly. Occasionally I pull out the Fossil for nostalgia. Now I'm heading over to Watchrecon and E-bay to see how much they are.

You see I can only really have one watch as I'd end up wearing whichever watch was the newest watch in my collection and others would collect dust. For me it'll be a good looking divers watch because my dad since I can remember always had an Omega Seamaster on his wrist first a 300 and then a Planet Ocean. At moment I have Seiko dive watch and one day I'll get a Seamaster either 300m or Planet Ocean.

That bit in 'Raiders' where Indiana Jones finds the grail (holy grail cup) is actually humble in appearance, utilitarian, and unassuming. Love that each persons grail watch reflects this.. doesn't always have to be a bling monster :) And sometimes you have to buy a few silly choices, and even expensive choices, to find that humble watch that you can be 'enthusiast'ic about daily. Hopefully, don't have to go through swamps, jungles & pyramids like Indy to find this out!

I'd like to add an 8th type just for fun: that watch that you love but hold back on buying it because of other collectors might say. For the longest time I was in love with the King Seikos and held myself back from getting it because its movement was subpar and everyone in the community was saying that it was an overpriced piece of garbage. I then realised that I loved it and its design made me smile so much that I wouldn't really care about what other collectors had to say, cause in the end, I was the one wearing it everyday. My King Seiko SPB279 makes me happy everyday 🙌🏼 that's the thing about this hobby, many times it doesn't make sense and it doesn't need to 🙂

As a young collector of 23 years old and a just finished bachelors degree + first full time job, I celebrated all of this with my first more expensive complication (Moonphase) watch. I got myself the lovely Mühle Glashütte Teutonia IV Bluemoon which can easily be dressed up with a suit for the office, but also looks great with a more casual poloshirt. Other than the Moonphase, I have as an everyday beater my Timex Marlin Chronograph, as my Quartz the Gshock 2100 in silver and as my Diver the Zelos Swordfish 42. And I love all of them, because watches are simply just amazing! 😃

A TOP RECOMMENDATION: The expanding Seiko SSK GMT line is excellent and Seiko has steadily released fun color ways, limited editions and it has modding support already. I got one for my father and its turned him into a watch guy. He wears that thing across continents and into glacial waters. He's a mad lad but the watch can easily withstand the rough stuff and still look more than nice enough for the dinner date. The bracelet is also quite good for the price point and better than previous seiko bracelets. Jangles with charm but is sturdy. Runs well better than stated +45/-45 also.

For a beater watch I highly recommend both the Casio F 91 W and the Timex Expedition. I currently wear an Expedition as my daily watch because I genuinely love how it looks, it's surprisingly durable, and it's very easy to clean. I work in a brewery so I'm usually covered in grain dust, trace amounts of industrial cleaning chemicals, sweat, wax, and sometimes beer at the end of my day so a cheap "disposable" watch that's durable and easy to clean is perfect. The F91W is a legend for a reason. They're cheap, they're reliable, and they just refuse to die out of pure spite. They aren't lookers, but because they're so generic and plain/cheap looking they blend in and disappear regardless of your outfit. If you're lucky enough to actually break or lose an F91W just walk into a Walmart and drop $30 and you're up and running again in minutes.

Congrats. I'd echo what Teddy says about watch collecting being a marathon and not a sprint - take your time, research watch brands, types, and your use cases. Buy a watch because YOU love it, not because it's trendy or trending, because selling one you've changed your mind about comes with a financial cost - almost always losing some money, which is okay if you've had the watch for a while and have enjoyed it in that time. Lastly as you buy up in price and over time, then think about classics and their potential resale value and marketability. All the best in your journey.

Thank you for elevating my beater sub $500 watch collection to luxury status. I do find it interesting that some, mainly men in my experience, have continued the practice of watch wearing while most of their peers have abandoned it with glee. Just this last New Year's Eve my brother in-law and his friend were commenting how they don't wear watches and why. My only response was to hold up my new Seiko Presage SRPB43 and agree with them that watches aren't necessary.

I am surprised how closely my own collection matches up to this video. Everyday: Monta Noble Dive: Omega SMP 2254.50 Beater: G-Shock DBD-200 Quartz: a vintage 1973 Omega Deville Quartz. But I plan on letting it go and I am honestly looking at a Breitling Aerospace. 😊 Dress: vintage 1965 Hamilton Dateline A-279 in 14k gold Travel: Christopher Ward C63 GMT. Also a great everyday. Complication: I just ordered an Omega Speedmaster Racing (40mm) on Wednesday.

Over the 30 years of wearing many types of wrist watches, the perfect use of the Diver watch (for me) was to keep track of my breaks while on the job. I have never been diving. My Citizen Eco-Pepsi is my fav diver. The watch I wear everyday since I bought it is the Tsuyosa Auto.

I agree with this entire vid but I'd say that there's one category that's missing and it's the "wildcard design" watch, one that looks out there and different from everything else you might own. for some people this might be something super classical, for some others this might be a LED watch like a Computron or a Pulsar, even a milspec field watch or a watch that's just built well enough and looks really fun

I love vintage dress watches. I wear my 1970 Bulova dress watch all the time. It has a gold rolled dial, case, and partially expandable band with a diamond at 3 and 9 o'clock. I'm not sure if they are real diamonds but they sure are pretty. It has an 8EA 17j movement that I serviced myself and gave a new mainspring.

You've done another video on it, but highlighting the Tissot 'Gentleman' here again as an everyday watch is really striking the bullseye. It's such a wonderful watch on so many levels and a terrific value for people not endowed with unlimited funds for watches. If I could only have one watch (God forbid!) the Gentleman would be very close to the top of that short list.

Can’t go wrong with one of them. It’s crazy how much nicer they are than watches that Casio sells for two or three times more that are literally just a penny’s worth of plastic and a microchip. I have one of the blue ones on a Maikes oil wax leather strap from Amazon, using the buckle from the Casio strap, and with a cyclops added to the crystal to make the date legible.

I just got a Seiko King Samurai for Christmas that is my first real deal watch. Grew up loving Casio's and still wear them, but this watch is amazing. One of the best deals out there in my opinion. Ceramic and Sapphire for 500 bucks and a classic look. Mine also runs about +2 seconds a day which is awesome. Couldn't recommend it more.

I own four watches and am absolutely not a part of the mechanical watch community, but hear me out please. All four are Citizen Eco Drives. I absolutely love them. They never have to be wound or serviced. They fit me. That said, three of those four are over a decade old, so they don't have them in their offer sheet anymore. In any case, my watches are: a plain silver/white everyday/dress watch that I have worn more than 95% of the time over the last twenty years. That's probably worn over 8000 days, but my math. Then. what is roughly that same watch in black, for occasions when I can fit that stark dark pattern into my wardrobe effortlessly. Then a gold-rimmed, navy face, leather strap. And then an over-the-top (to me, who likes simple) tachymeter that my wife got me about five years ago. I'm convinced that's a great breakdown. 1 simple silver band/face for everyday/dress. 1 simple gold/navy face with leather band. And then usecase specific alternatives such as my all-black or my weekender tachymeter. Another example would be a nato band summer watch. Once again, I'm aware this doesn't fit the mould of the community, but I figured my outsider perspective might be welcomed as well.

My Timex Expedition chronograph T49905GP checks multiple boxes: quartz, chronograph and jumping hour hand for travel or ease of seasonal re-setting.(I’m lazy and half my watches, the too-thick-for-sleeves watches, are still on Daylight Time.) I will add "modder" to the categories. I think everyone should modify to personal taste one watch in their collection. I have a Vostok that I modified into a nuclear Holocaust watch that reflects my fascination with Chernobyl. I love that watch. I love looking at it because I know what I invested in it to get it to look the way it looks. I am, in many ways, the watch's designer.

Teddy, this is another great video. I would highly recommend it to someone who's starting their watch collecting journey. It's great food for thought. The part about being a cerebral watch buyer makes a lot of sense. A watch really is an extension of our personality. Lots of people buy a watch to be in vogue with the rest of the crowd but I think a true watch collector is one who would be just as happy wearing a Casio Duro compared to his buddy who has a Rolex Sub. You're right.....A watch is a luxury, but boy, we sure do love them all the same! Thanks Teddy!

Hey Teddy. Please stop having to explain yourself that watches are unnecessary because you know what? They are! What happens in an event where all mobile phones malfunction? Us watch nerds will be the ones who will have the time readily available. Although I am being extreme, the point is this. These timepieces are very much necessary because they make us enthusiasts happy! Your content brings us joy! I think I speak for ALL enthusiasts when I say that you don’t need to put “disclaimers” for the sake of not “offending” someone. I love your content, and you should never have to explain yourself for talking about your passion. Think of it this way. Watches are an extension of fashion. The jacket you were wearing in the video “really nice by the way” I’m sure was “unnecessary” right? You don’t need 10 jackets. But you do, because style is important for expressing our individuality. Thanks for continuing to make awesome content!

Good roundup, Teddy. I would also add a few more categories for consideration: field/military; pilot/flieger, novelty/funky (like MB&F, Urwerk etc.), and smart watches (Apple watch). Vintage could also be considered a category that cuts across all these different types. Finally, for women I would add “jewelry watch,” ie the watches that are bejeweled usually with lots of gemstones or diamonds, and are often offered by jewelry brands more than watch brands per se.

Another great video, thank you, Teddy! I would add a historical/classic category. As well as some recent watches, one watch I will always keep is the Omega Constellation my parents gave me over 40 years ago. The classification by dress/sports/diver etc. is probably less relevant when buying a historical piece, but you could choose a personal connection (as I have), a design in vogue at a particular period or a watch which marked a major technical advance. I keep my 1981 Omega regularly maintained and still wear it (in fact, it's on my wrist today).
