Stephen Lang will speak about the creative evolution of Beyond Glory, a solo play that he began working on in 2003 and has performed more than 300 times. At heart, the play is a meditation on themes of courage, honor, fortitude, and humility. In his fifth decade as a professional actor, Beyond Glory represents Lang's most personally meaningful work. In "The Architecture of Acting," he will attempt to explain why in 18 minutes.
Actor and playwright Stephen Lang ('73) is perhaps best known for his role as Col. Quaritch in Avatar. Other memorable roles in film include Last Exit to Brooklyn and Tombstone. On Broadway, he has appeared in Death of a Salesman and A Few Good Men, among other plays.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

"I thought I'd take 18 minutes to tell you why" he says, with exactly 18 minutes remaining on the clock. Lang is an astounding, rhythmic and coherent performer. I met him on the set of Terra Nova on my 19th birthday. He took the time out of his schedule between scenes to ask how me and my friends were doing and what we were up to on the day. Before he left I asked Stephen "can I have high five?" he gave me a cheeky smile, a solid high five and as he stepped passed me he said jokingly in a thick southern accent. "you stop it with that, now" gave me a pat on the back and walked away with a smile on his face. One of the coolest moments of my life.

Thank you, Mr. Lang. I loved the quote about how we need stories like bread, salt, or water. You have a great gift for storytelling. You are an encourager.

My wife, me and another person, the audience of three, were at the opening night at ANC. It's a special and fitting place to open the play. We'll never forget the performance and were relieved when the WaPo's revue got the run extended for a month. Sold out every night. We're so happy that Stephen is still doing this. Phoenix would be a great town for the show, hint.

Incredible! I saw Mr. Lang's' Incredible performance, "Beyond Glory." Viewed the show with my Son, who's now a Captain in the U. S. Army. We saw this while stationed at Warner Barracks in Bamberg, Germany - Will was not yet 15 back then. I am now a Retired Army Major, and I can tell you this was the most moving tribute to our Brave American Service members that I ever witnessed, outside of the self-service our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines that serve at Home and around the world. God bless you, Mr. Lang, and God bless our Troops!

Great memories! My oldest Son, 14 y.o., and I saw Mr. Lang's great MOH tribute at Warner Barracks in Bamberg, Germany, 2005. Incredible performance! I have been Retired from the Army since January 2017 now, and my Son is a 26-year old 1st Lieutenant (P), in the Army, with his wife of nearly 3 years now, and their infant Son - my 1st Grandson! Would Love to own a DVD of Mr. Lang's masterpiece.
