What is the biggest taboo you can think of and how likely would you be to openly discuss this topic? Often, we get so scared of talking about them, but why is this the case? We unconsciously have created an environment in which we are almost blinded to see different sides of taboos. Even though we might know that we all face the same things, sometimes it is still not socially allowed to address certain topics. We twit around them and put ourselves in awkward positions, just so we don’t have to bring them to the table.
During this talk, Isaiah will discuss what a taboo actually is and where it comes from. Along with different personal examples she will show the audience what taboos we face every day, many of which we might not always be aware of and show why we should be talking about taboos. Isaiah is a 22-year-old International creative business student born and raised in The Hague, who recently started a podcast that discusses taboos. She created her own podcast where she talks about different sorts of topics that students have to deal with every day. In her own words "Something that always fascinated me were the topics that no one dared to address. In different areas of my life, such as religion, family, culture and education, I started to notice that there is always an elephant in the room. This brought me to the point where I felt like our society would only become damaged under such behavior and needed to open more discussions about certain topics". Something that started as a school project, turned into a concept that grew on Isaiah personally. With this platform, she hopes to open people’s eyes and create a space where taboos are being eliminated and we can break through boundaries of our habituated mindset.
