Something like, Gratitude is a habit? Love is a way of life? We have to learn how to be at peace with ourselves, our needs, living in a world filled with other people with other needs, but God is good, and all that is asked is that we never stop trying. I find the road hopeful and worthy of celebration!

Main point : she was a senior & she expected she would be given the lead in school musical because she had been very active in all the shows since she got in school. But when she didn't got the lead she was devastated. She thought the world was crumbling. But when she knew that her friends mom & dad had died of cancer and now her aunt got brain cancer she realized that people have much worst conditions and she was freaking so much about little things and how she only thought about herself and didn't cared about others ( she gave an example of her getting upset to waiter when they brought the wrong order..) : default setting she had was just caring about herself. : concsiously she now care about others too .

With every speech I have heard relating to the "human condition" is like an introduction that simply will not end. There is no actual point made, just a never-ending generic thought process which seems to be so vague that at the end of a speech, you are unsure of what you have just heard, and you certainly have no clue as to how to, or even why include it as part of your life. Whether you listen to a ten minute speech or a one hour speech, at the end, you almost feel like you have been through a sales pitch, yet you are unsure of what they are actually trying to sell you. This mentality they are trying to sell is about as productive as hearing a motivational speaker speaking in a language you do not understand. At the end, nothing is gained other than confusion of what just happened. And what is strangest of all, with almost every single one of the speeches on KZfaq about the "human condition" the comments are turned off, which my guess is to eliminate any negative responses to this display of mental confusion.

Hey Victor, I'm of the school of thought that enjoys these types of discussions and speeches. I wanted to offer my perspective to you to hopefully provide some clarity to how some others think on this topic. In my opinion, these types of speeches are more about the journey than the destination. If I had to sum up the speaker's point in this talk, it would be that the human condition is our tendency to think of ourselves before others, and we should challenge ourselves to think of others before ourselves to rise from our "default". In my opinion, it is nothing more than basic survival instincts that we would think in this way. If I'm more worried about the cave next to me and how they weren't able to find food, then I may die as a result because I am not taking care of my own needs. I believe the speaker's philosophy is based on the society we've constructed, which I think we can all agree is different than anything else in the animal kingdom. It is about recognizing that we no longer live as animals and we now live for more than basic survival. It is a challenge to rise above our "default programming".

Humans natural default setting is not to focus on ourselves. This is a natural default in humans living in an extremely sick society that foments selfishness and tells us from birth that this is what we should do. To act HUMANLY doesn't mean and never meant anything remotely selfish but the opposite. So healthy humans are instinctively geared towards the collective good. Living in the US is completely natural for an American to assume what Elizabeth assumed. Because that is what she sees. There is very little ethics in Western Society just the EGO. It helps us to be better consumers for the corporations.

The human condition is the conflict between modern life and natural instinct. The main problem with the world is that we use our natural instincts to compel us within a modern all consuming overpopulated world when these instincts were actually designed for a small wild world. The solution is to cap or regulate certain actions across all levels of society such as those of being territorial and being competitive. The catch 22 is that these actions will unite the world yet we need to unite the world before we can implement these solutions. It's time to swap being competitive for sharing and to stop being territorial for being welcoming (on a global as well as on a localised day to day scale)

I tried for a few years to learn how to meditate. Then one day I decided I needed to get serious about it and did. I had come to understand that my world view was hopelessly compromised and I didn't know what was at the heart of the problem and so came to the realization that I needed to achieve enlightenment. I was not particularly confident in my chances, much of what I read made it seem as though only "special" people ever succeeded and at 20 years of age I had at least somewhat faced the idea that I wasn't really all that special. Thankfully the Zen Buddhists of Japan presented a more pragmatic picture, they did not deny it was difficult but presented it in a way that seemed might actually be possible? So I had the hope that they might be correct? Upon that hope I proceeded. It only took a few months of practice with serious intent before I made a small but very significant breakthrough. As always I tried to keep my mind still and found it wandering. But this time I caught the thought as it arose, saw it being generated in my own mind which immediately gave me control of that process. I was careful not to overdo things this first time, thinking to pace myself carefully, exercising and strengthening this new ability, but in truth I learnt quite quickly and within some few months had what seemed only a few months earlier seemed an impossible level of control over my mind. In the end my success was greater than I had dared to believe it could be. Far greater. But there was much that was difficult, incredibly so. It's not necessarily as difficult as you might fear to get started and even to get some fairly serious results, if you are earnest you will succeed? But depending on how far you need to go it may take a more serious effort and it can also be somewhat dangerous. You do not need to have perfect control to begin with, that will improve as you find your way. You do not need to be some perfect person, though the journey will likely make you a somewhat better one. If you need to do it then you will be able to. There has never been another experience in my life that so immediately reflects the truth of Newton's third law. Upon this path you will quickly find that reality is mechanically just, utterly fair, utterly just. But perhaps more complicated in practice than you might want to know?

Very well explained thanks. Multiple decades ago I learned meditation somewhat by accident. A stress therapist had given me a tape with a 20 mins relaxation technique lesson on it. On the flip side of the tape was a 20 meditation lesson. My Sony Walkman (told you it was a while ago) auto played the B-Side and I gradually got used to meditating. Like you described it was an incredibly calming yet powerful and positive sensation because you feel part of a bigger universe. I was then able to meditate just about anywhere. A few years later I went to about 10 sessions to formally learn Transcendental Meditation. It was a proven method but in my case it really messed up my original meditation method and I just never regained the effectiveness through either. I also had an injury that resulted in chronic pain in my spine and that was difficult to ignore when sitting to meditate. Thanks for the inspiration. Maybe its time to try again.

A few things about this felt off, I originally was trying to find out about the human condition for a paper of mine I found some issues with her speech. First off go her for being a teen and getting up and talking yadda yadda yadda but there's a problem. She mentioned she's a thespian (actor more or less) meaning this speech was most likely memorized word by word leaving nothing to the heart or soul, like a passing comedy show she gives her memorized lines like a robot. The description of this video pegs her as co-leader of Fellowship of Christian Students, but this is not evident in her speech. She preaches freedom of your own decision and the control she herself has over the world around her which has little room for faith in God. She references other famous authors and philosophers without referencing some very easy points in modern psychology or philosophy to seem more historically attractive, but even Plato and Tolstoy have been proven wrong time and time again. At the very end she says the only way to gain control is to "not try to control (minds) at all but be aware of people around you". This is helpful but your personal life is not worn on the shoulders of others, it's your own humanity that makes you special and control over your own thoughts and actions is not a responsibility others can bear, rather something you need to be at peace with. (Note: this is supposed to be constructive not negative).

It's good to see a young person with enough intellectual honesty introspection and most importantly humility to think for herself income to her own conclusions but one shouldn't project that onto everyone else because you're the exception rather than the rule. As a social species a lot of what dictates The Human Condition is the fact that of all the species of the earth we are probably the least well-equipped to make it in our natural environment without tools and Technology and that's why we are social because we require the cooperation and help of others in order to survive. This unfortunately means that almost everyone's default setting is going to be follow rather than lead for the sake of getting along and accomplishing things without constant conflict, for this is the nature of the herd and the sheeple will follow the herd more interested in blending and then standing out

She's right. The default setting facilitates our dimensional awareness within spacetime because of our biological constitution, of course. A bit weird that measured time does the same in respect to special relativity. So the 'default setting' might be more deeply rooted than just a mere our physical observation on this side of the atomic world, and have its roots within the subatomic world. Who knows...

One night I stepped into my kitchen to make a sandwich. I went over to the table where the loaf of bread was. Opened it. Took out two slices and went over to the cabinet and got out a plate. I walked over to the counter and there was a plate with two slices of bread already there. Turns out I had already done this whole process already without even realizing. The majority of us are survivors and are trapped in the world that is lead by power and wealth, it starts from the top leaders who create systems and laws to increase their own comfort ...you are charged for what you own and don't own...they control everything in the name of laws and policies ... they think they know everything... Yet a world without them would be even more chaotic.. to me , as long as those that govern ...don't change , the rest remain prisoners of the systems that have programmed us to become selfish like they are , blind and insensitive ...numb and unaware ...we have achieved so much comfort as species and have created so much misery for many too ...look at the state of our environment, the ecosystem, how we treat animals and people ... There are so many amongst us , claiming to be smarter ... experienced waken ones ...preaching glimpses of their woke senses to others through their ego ... making a good living out of it ... We need to wake up , to be conscious and aware ...we need MORE than ever people , people who act on their woke senses and preach less to the world ! Harry potter became famous for the enthusiasm and curiosity of many , who followed others curiosity without knowing...and so does ..."the human condition" is ... conditioning human ...through belief...and WE ALL know it well ...but unless we speak it louder to ourselves , we cannot hear it enough ! Truly ...we don't need others to preach it to us ...we just need to hear ourselves more , not from our ego , mind intelligence...but from our hearts ... that's the only place we get the best answers and wisdom and WE ALL have it ! Beyond titles and names that feed people's ego .

I'm not sure what this is supposed to say to me! If we just "spare a thought" for everyone who messes up then we end up in a world without responsibility! Today I nearly got knocked off my bicycle! I was extremely angry. The van driver didn't stop to apologise,he sped away quickly. Should I just shrug my shoulders and think "AHH maybe the poor guy has just split up from his wife or found out his kid is unwell"? I'm sorry that's BS! Everyone's world is intertwined. We all should take responsibility for our actions and stop seeking ways to just let folk off for "having a bad day". Where would that end? Anarchy!

This is the very definition of the "default setting" she talked about. You are too self centered to think that everyone should be punished if they hurt you because it's not fair for you if they don't receive punishment. The very point is to have the benefit of the doubt out of every situation, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be angry, you have the right to be angry if someone rudely knocked you off like that but getting out of the default setting in this situation means to think about the possibility why that person did that to you, a reasonable situation that will make you forgive that person. These forgivable possibilities aren't necessarily the truth, it's just there to prevent you from bursting out of anger, it gives you a peace of mind in everything. I, for one can attest that this is really helpful. Every unfortunate thing that ever happened to me, although with a heavy heart, I always think that this is normal and it happens at some point to everyone thus I will naturally get through it, whenever people do bad things to me I always think of possibilities to make their actions towards me reasonable although I'm angry. I applied this since I developed the capability to think for myself, since I developed this mindset on my own, I honestly lived a stress-free life. I consider everything natural thus I don't think I'm getting punished or condemned by God or whatever Deity there is. That's the power of having a benefit of the doubt in everything, it's one of the aspects of getting out of our "Default setting". The universe isn't plotting against you, remember that. You're just a tiny little dust in the grand scheme of things after all. The only downside I can think of this way of thinking is that you have to be ready sacrifice your own feelings a lot of times just for the greater good, thus this is very hard for self centered persons but I wouldn't call it sacrificing because at the end, you're the one who's benefiting.

@raresmircea
@raresmircea 7 жыл бұрын
But how is this related to her talk, and how do you know that? Because you can't! You'd be right if you refer to the consciousness in your children and every other being that lives beyond you. They surely survive after your death. Individual, personal consciousness manifesting as particular egos, cannot go very far either way. Even if "you" survive after death.. how long can you keep your particular shape/personality? I, myself, changed radically from 15 to 18, then to 25, 30 and so on. Now i'm 33 and i'm different from when i was 30, and that's just 3 years difference (although mine is a special case for i have changed my job and "religion" in this short period). But it's clear to me that if i were to live 467 years than i would change at least 50 hobbies and activities, each of them changing "me". In 5.000.000 years i'm sure i'll get sick of being a nice guy and start beating and raping people for a change. And i exaggerate to make a point here.. in reality i think more of 200 years or so. Furthermore i would constantly replace older memories with newer ones, and who i am is just an abstract product of memory. We have undoubtable evidence that people who are ravaged by early dementia or other conditions that destroy the memory information, are losing themselves literally, they don't behave like they used to do, because they forget what they like, what they know and hence what they do.. and these things are pretty much who you are. From the other end we have examples like Geney Whitely, a girl who was raised in total seclusion, being kept until the age of 13 in a dark room, feeding herself with the cereals that were occasionally thrown inside. Because she never made memories with how other humans tend to behave, when she was freed she was the same kind of self that an animal has. She didn't knew she was a hostage, she had no idea if she was a girl or a boy, smart or stupid, aggressive or kind, uneducated, or that she had a name or a job, or a passion. Nor did she knew these things even existed! So without memory "we" are just globes of undifferentiated consciousness, every individual more or less identical to every other, just like a colony of ants. On the other hand, if we make memories of interacting with other humans, BUT WITHOUT education and culture, we would get to form and know a shallow personality, like apes do (also based on memory). But when we die this information contained in the neural circuits destroys itself, leaving no trace for this ego. If you believe and rely on miracles, or other things, WHICH YOU CANNOT KNOW, than you could hope for survival after death. But again, if you think seriously at the consequences of that.. Who gets to become immortal? The 18 year old you who was full of life and emotion, the 25 year old you who was smarter, the 35 mature and knowledgeable, the 60 years old wise person who knows better?! In 99% of the cases the 18 years version would utterly loath the principles, behavior, musical and every other preference of the 60 years old version :)) Furthermore afterlife could be so different from what you "can know" and "can feel" (like hate, love, mathematics, medicine, warm/cold, up/down, high/low, sex, friendship), what would a neurosurgeon, or a person who lived to drag-race do there? They would have to change, possibly so much that they would NOT be themselves anymore. People are what they like and what they do.., so what about those that have as their greatest passion and most defining trait of their character.. the passion for swinging their partners with other married couples?! What would they do? They would have to lose their personality, to change to the vastly different world (that is if you don't believe in taboos, marriage certificates, dicks in asses, parties, swinging, and other such things as making part of "heaven" :)). My last point is.. if we logically and naturally change EITHER WAY (in afterlife, or, if we were to live on earth for 35.460 years.. thanks to medicine), than why do i care for survival after all?! My self from the far future (or afterlife) will be as different from me as any other self from that far future :)) Many of them smarter, kinder, more passionate and full of life than "me". So there's no logical point in it. Just an irrational fear and desire that we have. But my guess is that humans will gradually transcend this desire and get to happily live in the moment knowing that probably they will die without an afterlife. And there's so much philosophy, art and literature that makes the perspective of death not only manageable but even enjoyable. Anyways we're all in the same boat.. so i wish you the best.

It is baffling how she actually spoke about the human condition for close to a quarter of an houre while not realizing that her 'boring school day routine' actually is a massive opportunity given to her to actually excel herself mentally and prepare herself for actively making the world better in the future for everyone else ... but noooooooooope, education boooooooooooring and uuuuuuuuuuuuuseless ... *sigh*

@@mranonymousboogie326 I can 100% understand this feeling to be honest, in that situation, you are pretty much bored often while not as mentally developed enough to actually realize the opportunity ... but she had time to thin kabout it afterwards, she even went to reflect that time and still ... even looking back she was not able to recognize the big advantage she was given by being able to get said education *sigh*

Humm,. You know what I get from this? Another weathly View of things. That, talks about being more aware more contimplative about the world going on around us but, then if comes Full circle to the self. How can" I" be better how can "I" make things better for me? So self envolved that, you only thought about at 17 and other people with 50 still haven't figured it out. When did I see this? When did I figure out that, I am not the only person and bad things happen to everyone and most people only care about themselves. 10 years old that's when it hit me. My eyes opened to the lies,.For me the whole Religious thing,.praying, meditation are useless. Could it be that, those who practice those tools are actually fooling themselves? Everyone of those things has one thing in common. The promise of some great revelation,. expirience,.or Forgiveness. Are you really sure you are not fooling yourselves? The condition I would say as well,. has a lot of money.

For one thing , Jesus Christ is real, as witnessed by hundreds of people and historically documented in the Holy Bible. Second, we are multi celled Creations of God, vastly more complex than any of man's creations proving God's intelligent and incredible design.
