Believe it or not fish are actually really intelligent, almost on the level of a dog. I've been keeping fish my whole life and currently have everything from Comet Goldfish to Oscar Cichlids to Volitan Lionfish. Everytime I go to feed the goldfish they won't eat the rest of the day until I initially feed them by hand. My Oscars they'll repeatedly send water out of the aquarium unless I physically interact with them first and my Lionfish approaches the glass and gets really excited and starts wagging her tail and wiggling her dorsal spines. People take fish for granted and it's a real shame. They're beautiful and amazing creatures with indiviality among each and every one. Out of all my favorite is the comet goldfish mine are currently between the ages of 7-12yrs and I have them their full life. Keep up the good work, I really liked your research and video

My fish is smart in my opinion because he always shows when he's hungry and he shows that he is the center piece and a leader.

I believe that there is a level of intelligence that is common throughout the "animal" world. 40 years ago, I was snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and getting mobbed by different species of fishes. Clearly, they were used to being hand fed by tourists with bags of meal that was purchased on the beach. Occasionally, a small reef shark would wander within 10 feet of teh swarm, and very few fish seemed to care much. But when a shark got within say, 5 feet, it was hounded by a dozen or more fishes of what type I don't know. But the shark was being harrassed by lots of small fishes, pecking at the eyes to the point that it left. It seemed to me that the fishes were not concerned about the shark unitl it got too close to their food supply, then they used mob tactics to shoo it away. Somehow, they had figured that they agreed upon a No Go Zone for sharks. As soon as th shark left, they came right back and patiently waited for me to produce the pellets. Some seemed to try to bribe me by grooming the hairs on my arms, near my hands that pulled out the feed - maybe so they would be first. I have never thought about fishes the same way since . Surely, as the have been around for so long, living in groups, they must have deveopled somepretty remarkable smarts. Many fishes live very long lives. Why should they be so different than birds, or any herd animal on land?

what about the types of fish we've all been eating, are they also smart? I wanna see a fish that is typically sold in fish market if they are just as smart as the other fish we don't eat, like the tuna for example.

In my opinion all of the animals are in some way smart and they feel pain so in general eating them is wrong

• Akti0n • I mean pain is something most people don’t like causing others. Empathetic people can’t think about the pain an animal experienced before they died or they’ll have a really tough time eating it.

Tuna and most of the fish we eat are predatory. As a result, they need to outsmart their prey to survive. I would say they’re not quite on the level of species which eat difficult prey like puffers, groupers, and wrasses, but definitely up there with species like eels.

@vial.of.photons brains don't work like robots.even the simplest brain is more complex then any robot. also it's more then just avoiding pain. fish can also recognize them selves in the mirror even being able to react to something like a dot placed on them. also we thought at one point infants didn't feel pain when they do. so why isn't it possible that what we know about the world is wrong when it comes to animals and their nerves and brains?

Bruh Atlantic salmon are born inland, go out to the ocean and grow up, come back inland through the same river, jump waterfalls and swim upstream. They go back to where they were born
