In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxVienna, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxVienna event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

They used to have a name for this kind of activity. It was called a "publicity stunt." This group didn't subvert anything at the art show; they played right into the organizers' hands by contributing a clever little bit of art show fakery, thereby provided the necessary element of "subversion," which, therefore, was not subversive at all. If you're going to join in and play along you might as well just join in and play along. What a roundabout way of entering boring art into a boring art show.

@VvAnarchangelvV: what? the context hacking text on our monochrom blog (which was quoted on wikipedia) is creative commons attribution-sharealike 3.0 and gnu free documentation license. anyone can use this text. go ahead. i simply said it's a waste of time to create a wikipedia page about it. (oh my nonexisting god, people gotta have more important problems, don't they?)

Excellent work; pulling the plug on the art establishment and its favored courtiers.

@WGRZCWP this is why I love the Internet. It's brilliant at analysing things. also, overanalysing. If you're running an event of any sort, the last thing you would be doing or even have time for is planting little artist traps hoping that a bunch of austrian smartarses to spot it and 'subvert' it. most of the time you'd just be trying to make picky people happy, so they don't complain (and judging by the pickiness of one entrant above), so you can get a shitload of money for doing it next year.

*eats popcorn* In this thread: butthurt intellectuals arguing about bullshit that has nothing to do with the video above really. I do find it amusing that the guy who says 'if your prank can be summed up in a cnn headline, you're doing it wrong (paraphrased) has a twitter account. but what they did for the taiwanese guy was pretty awesome, albeit overanalysed.
