I found it quite refreshing that the male lead was the one who enjoyed musicals (and earnestly loved the movie) and the female being the one who didn't want to be there. And that it was self-aware! and it introduced me to Jordan Fisher who is AH-MAZING. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts!!

You guys should definitely check out the Beach movies from the 60s. This movie is a spoof on Beach Party, and Beach Blanket Bingo. They star Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. There are about five movies that they did that were beach related. I think you guys would like them if you like this movie!

The closest I can think of, that's a teen beach movie with a semi science thing is Pajama Party (1964) it has a teen alien who lands in a beach town.

I was 8 when this movie came out and I watched it *SO MUCH* growing up, mostly because I had a big fat crush on Lela. This was all before I realized I was queer but my favorite scene in the movie was when she and Brady took a walk on the beach at night, I remember not being able to look at anything but her lips, and at the time said it was because of how the lighting made her lipstick look lmfao Edit: now that I think about it I wonder if this is why my mom suspected me being queer before I ever did, I literally couldn’t watch that scene without pointing out how pretty her lips looked

Teen Beach Movie and Schmigadoon! are basically the same and I never noticed until today I love the musicalsception universe

Probably a random take but the reason they know about the weather machine and the lair's location is pretty simple. The plot requires them to know it so the moment the story gets back on track with them as a couple all the info is dumped into their brains cause.. well it is a movie and it has a script to follow. Also I believe most teen beach movies in that era often had some wacky side plot about a businessman wanting to ruin the beach, if it wasn't about the leads wanting to make the other jealous. The vibe for this movie was funny at least and the people seem to be having a good time so I always love this one.

Apparently the biggest wave ever surfed was 86 feet. I could never. I'm terrified of heights and the ocean lol. But for a safe (unrelated) way to experience something height-related without the heights is indoor skydiving. I recommend that too anybody that can afford it. I went twice but only because I didnt have to pay for it (my parents did when we were on vacation years ago)

The movie in this movie is a parody of/reference to 'West Side Story' (which makes sense - since the original movie of West Side story was made in 1961 and was a huge worldwide hit, it would make sense that someone else would make another movie in 1962 that directly referenced such a huge hit with a. slight name change like 'Wet Side Story') which is an adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet'. But they also fitted in a pretty good reference to another Shakespeare play 'Twelfth Night'. Not just because of the swept up by a storm and left on a beach/shore with people getting mixed up in love but hearts (mostly) being united in the end storyline, but also because of Tanner's "low voice - I can do HIGH as well" lines, re one of the songs from 'Twelfth Night': "Oh mistress mine where are you roaming? Oh stay and hear your true love's coming That can sing both high and low That can sing both high and low. Trip no further pretty sweeting Journeys end in lovers meeting Every wise mans son doth know Every wise mans son doth know What is love tis not hereafter Present mirth hath present laughter What's to come is still unsure What's to come is still unsure In delay there lies no plenty Then come kiss me sweet and twenty Youth's a stuff will not endure Youth's a stuff will not endure" Ok, mostly the first verse but still, the reference is there.

One can really feel how much fun you were having watching the movie and singing along and its contagious. I enjoyed this video so much and Im looking forward to watching part 2 once it comes out.
