Young man, you don't know how much I love your reaction. To see a young man that appreciates the music from my generation instead of thinking it's hokey, or cheesy, or to old fashioned gives me hope. There is great music from EVERY generation if we just give it a chance. Thanks from a fellow music lover!

TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO THE FACT WHITNEY COVERED IT DECADES LATER! I LOVE IT! It was soooo great to see him enjoy Dolly singing Dolly's song! It's based on a letter she wrote to Porter Wagoner when her contract to be part of his show expired and she decided to pursue a solo career. It thrills me that he loves her voice.

I have been tempted to bang my head in the wall every time I hear a young person listen to this song by Dolly and say, "Oh, this is a Whitney Houston song!" I LOVE IT that this kid is so young that he doesn't even remember Whitney! Though I will admit it makes me feel older than dirt! Maybe I just need to go back to bed!

@@roxanneshannon4582 Cool beans! Let me know what you think...but I won't hold you to that as some sort of mutually-agreed-upon deally. Her cover of Rock Legend Elton John's song Rocket Man is shweeeeeet, but her concept album Hounds of Love is #WOW & #YAY for the ears and soul...as well. Either way, enjoy the musical journeys you're sure to experience! ✌️

Two years late to the party, but God, I love this song. Remember this is 1974 and LIVE. There's nothing in that room that is fixing her voice, there's no mixers or filters on her voice. That is pure, unadulterated, unaltered talent.

I’m a Millennial, so a generation older than you. This is my parent’s music, but they raised me listening to it. Hands down, I think the 60s and early 70s is the best music to come out of the 20th century, and I agree it’s better than today’s. Keep discovering it. Recommend The Beach Boys - my favorite band of the 60s.

yes music back in the day was much better then today, and its mainly because back then it was pure talent, there was no auto tune, no synthesizers to change the singers voice to sound better. the way you heard them on the records was how you heard them live in person, there are a number of todays singers that do have good quality voices, but a lot of them couldn't actually hum 2 notes if their lives depended on it without something like auto tune to make them sound better

This was a song she wrote when she was in her early 20s and she was breaking it off with the old cat in the rhinestone suit there at the end(Porter Wagoner). She wrote that and "Jolene" in the same night . React to her and Kenny Rogers' "Islands In The Stream" and she and he have hundreds of songs to react to. Listen to him and Lionel Richie do "Lady" which Lionel wrote, but The Commodores would not record it..... I love seeing the younger generation see that the 1960s-1980s was truly the best American music ever made!!! Including Elvis, Michael J, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Dolly, Kenny, Aretha, Whitney, Alabama, Madonna, Garth Brooks, etc....

I love your reaction to Dolly singing her song! Others probably explained the origin of the song for you! When I was about 12 years old I remember telling my dad that I only liked Country music. He looked at me and said, “Well Krisna, I’ve always thought that a well rounded person liked things from a variety of genres!” That stuck with me and I listen to music from many genres and read books from many different genres, like movies, tv shows, etc from all genres! And I agree with him, When I was your age I got along with pretty much everyone and let them play their music in my house and got them to listen to and appreciate my Country music as well! So, I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction!

Porter Wagner, the man that came and sat next to her, this was his show, She sang with him for over 5 yrs. When she got ready to go out on her own he got upset and would not take no as a answer. She went home that night and wrote this to tell him it was over, but she loved all the help he gave he on her way up. If I remember right, this was their last show. This song hit #1, in the country charts. Yes her voice is still fantastic. The same night sh wrotr this she also wrote Joline. another one of her hits.

Porter wagoner gave her the chance to be on his country show. After several years she was ready to move on to a bigger and better career. So she wrote this for him when she was leaving the show.Actor kevin costner called dolly directly to ask her if he could use this song in the movie the body guard also starring whitney houston.Dolly said yes. Whitney did her version of dollys song for the movie. The first time dolly heard whitneys version was on her way home from work in nashville. She absolutely loved whitneys remake. She was so taken with whitneys version she pull over to the side of the road and waited until it was over. Both versions are awesome!!!!!

Dolly has written more than 3,000 songs and she has 40 albums that have gone to the top of the charts. If you don't mind crying a little, react to Dolly singing "Me and Little Andy". Dolly has been married to one man for over 50 years and wrote a song about a bank teller that kept flirting with her husband. It's called Jolene. She said that she tore off her wig and almost beat her to death with it. She was one of 12 kids and her family was dirt poor growing up.

This is not R&B. This is pure country. Almost all of the old country music (classic country) told stories. Some of them were sad stories, some were not. For instance, "Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash told a story but it was a funny story. If you want to hear another beautiful song written and performed by Dolly that is a true story, you should listen to "Coat of Many Colors" that was taken from a true event from her childhood. Yes, she has a beautiful voice and she writes amazing songs which is why, though she was born and raised in extreme poverty, she is currently worth about a half a billion dollars!
