Hello. I am old and have Zero Idea how to do Instagram. 1 person that you have Never played was My 1st guitar hero of the mid 1970s. His name was TOMMY BOLIN. He, sadly, passed away in December of 1976 of a drug overdose. I was 17 and his death Crushed My World for quite a While. I would LOVE to see/watch your reaction to "Dreamer" Studio version off of the Album "Teaser". Also, MY Favorite Tommy Bolin song is "Wild Dogs" also off of his 1st solo album, "Teaser". Also, a Great jamm song off of his 2nd solo Album, ''Private Eyes'', is the track titled "Post Toastee". Everyone gets to Show Off a Bit On "Post Toastee". IF you love songs with Great Dynamics from slow, sparse, beautiful and melodic to- Boom, rocking out in a flash, and then BOOM- right back to soft and mellow, then "Dreamer" is for you. I would recommend the regular studio audio of all. Thank you. I Love watching your Reactions!

Dolly is magical! Roger Ebert told this anecdote in his autobiography: “In Dallas for the premiere of 9 to 5, I had an uncanny experience and on the plane home to Chicago I confessed it to Siskel: I had been granted a private half hour with Dolly Parton, and as we spoke I was filled with a strange ethereal grace. This was not spiritual, nor was it sexual. It was healing and comforting. Gene listened, and said, 'Roger, I felt the exact same thing during my interview with her.' We looked at each other. What did this mean? Neither one of us ever felt that feeling again. From time to time we would refer to it in wonder.”

Dolly is a unique mix of sincerity and artifice. I remember an interview with someone involved with casting her in 9 to 5. They went to one of her shows and were impressed by her easy banter (and of course her singing). She was perfect for the role, but .... could she act? So they went to see her show again, and realized the most of that "easy" banter was exactly the same as before. She was acting every night in her shows, and making it seem so natural and spontaneous that everyone in the audience got a little of the experience that Siskel and Ebert described. Even Jamel_AKA_Jamal got some of it watching a video from 46 years ago.

I'm sure there are others who mentioned this. Dolly got her first big break on the Porter Wagner show. As time went on and more and more people began to appreciate her talents she found herself in the position of leaving the show to seek greater fortunes. She struggled with how she was going to tell Porter after all the things he did for her. So she wrote this song for him. In this case she was singing it to Porter. So take the time to listen to the words again in this context and the song becomes even more powerful.

The only thing that you said that was incorrect was that Dolly was involved romantically with who the song is about. Porter Wagoner was Dolly’s mentor and helped give her her big break when she was an unknown singer and songwriter. It was written more of a sign of appreciation for supporting her and that she showed the same appreciation towards him. He wanted her to continue to be a success and she wanted him to do the same thing. Plus Dolly was already married by the time she wrote the song, same guy of over 50 years.

In 1990, the high school dropout rate for Dolly Parton's hometown of Sevierville Tennessee was at 34% (Research shows that most kids make up their minds in fifth/sixth grade not to graduate). That year, all fifth and sixth graders from Sevierville were invited by Parton to attend an assembly at Dollywood. They were asked to pick a buddy, and if both students completed high school, Dolly Parton would personally hand them each a $500 check on their graduation day. As a result, the dropout rate for those classes fell to 6%, and has generally retained that average to this day. Shortly after the success of The Buddy Program, Parton learned in dealing with teachers from the school district that problems in education often begin during first grade when kids are at different developmental levels. That year The Dollywood Foundation paid the salaries for additional teachers assistants in every first grade class for the next 2 years, under the agreement that if the program worked, the school system would effectively adopt and fund the program after the trial period. During the same period, Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995: The idea being that children from her rural hometown and low-income families often start school at a disadvantage and as a result, will be unfairly compared to their peers for the rest of their lives, effectively encouraging them not to pursue higher education. The objective of the Imagination library was that every child in Sevier County would receive one book, every month, mailed and addressed to the child, from the day they were born until the day they started kindergarten, 100% free of charge. What began as a hometown initiative now serves children in all 50 states, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, mailing thousands of free books to children around the world monthly. On March 1, 2018 Parton donated her 100 millionth book at the Library of Congress: a copy of "Coat of Many Colors" dedicated to her father, who never learned to read or write. Happy 74th Birthday Dolly Parton!

She's also charitable, the Dolly Parton Foundation gives free books to teachers who request it for needy students. My favorite song she sings is Deportee by Woody Guthrie. Dolly Parton is loved by both Americans and Mexicans because of the beauty of her soul.

I've been to many concerts in my life and one of those was Dolly Parton. She was so wonderful, she engaged with the audience, told stories and made you feel like you were chatting with you sister. She's a wonderful human being who has done so much. A true treasure.

Dolly’s version has the emotion. Whitney’s has the power. I always go for feeling and emotion over vocal perfection. Linda Ronstadt does a lovely version encompassing both the emotion and power. FYI, auto correct may be behind this but his name is Porter Waggoner, not Wagner as so many write.

She is definitely a treasure. She just donated a million dollars to covid research, but it goes even farther back. She built Dollywood in the mountains to give her family, her friends and "her people" jobs. They have one of the largest eagle rescue facilities at Dollywood. Of course she is know as the book lady for giving away millions of books to young children in honor of her father that never learned to read and write.

You're right. Whitney's version may have been more powerful vocally, but this version is much more "pure".

Whitney Houston was a belter. She had incredible control and power, but her delivery was about that power. Dolly Parton doesn't reach for those high notes, doesn't drive hard into them. He voice just floats in there and finds where it needs to go. This is not a criticism of either of them. It's simply two different styles.

Yes, Dolly admits this and gave her permission to sing it after turning down Elvis who wanted to sing it. So she knows who would have been the best fit.
