Anni-Frid (Frida) is dark haired, Agnetha the blonde. Benny on keyboards and Bjorn guitar. Put the initials of their first names together and get ABBA. The year was 1976 and this song was a worldwide smash. To this day Fernando still holds the record for longest run at #1 in Australia.

ABBA was phenomenally talented. Still are, matter of fact. It's really wonderful that you can listen to this (now-old) style of music and appreciate all the elements that went into it. I personally think it's timeless pop music, very well-executed and beautiful.

Most of their videos were shot by Lasse Hallström, who later became a Hollywood director, with films such as Chocolat, Cider House Rules, Gilbert Grape, etc. This is his early work, done on a shoestring budget, but you can see he has talent.

Lasse is ashamed of the Knowing Me Knowing You -video. They only had an afternoon to make that video and they had to use a school gymnasium as a recording location. He had to use his private sheets, to cover the wooden wall mounted climbing frames. But he didn't have the time to iron the sheets first! You can clearly see that nowadays, when that video is available in HD. His private apartment was also used to record the video Happy New Year...

I didn't realise you were a videographer. Lasse Hallström was the man who directed most of their iconic videos, and you can surely learn a lot from the deceptive simplicity of his style. All of the band members look great in this video, partly due to his choice of angles and lighting - but also just because they're great looking people! Frida is definitely peak Frida here.

A -Agnetha (blonde) B -Bjorn (the guy without beard) B -Benny (guy usually on piano) A -Anni-Frid “Frida” (dark hair) The band name is an acronym of their names. Just a bit of trivia, “SOS” is the only chart hit where both the title of the song and the artist names are palindromes, i.e. reversible. You should consider your next ABBA reaction to be “Does Your Mother Know” for a different side of ABBA, I think you’ll be surprised 😊 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJNlnJZqurOqeqM.htmlsi=3l8M8w3YBzm564Kp

‘Take A Chance’ was a top 5 hit in the US. But my fav is ‘The Name of the Game’ which reached the top 20, along with ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ In other countries it topped the charts. Also their first international hit was ‘Waterloo’ which won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. Check them out.

so happy to see you again with ABBA songs "Fernando" (1976) is a soft ballad, so nice and beautiful The best is the beauty of their vocal harmonies, very soft at the whisper level but at a level of perfection, that explodes in a magic chorus I have compared it to "Chiquitita" (1979) because both songs have similarities and contrasts Both have the title in Spanish, and was recorded in spanish too (to the album in spanish "Gracias por la Música" In 1980) Both are pop ballads with an initial verse sung alone and from the second chorus in duet, with a very catchy and popular chorus (in my country Argentina are songs that we would sing in a circle of friends, because we all know their lyrics) The two videos show the contrast of fire and snow, night and day They were both very most worldwide successful, only behind "Dancing Queen" ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and it came from the success of "Mamma Mía" It was the manager who convinced them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style (Frida had done it before in 1975 on her solo album in Swedish and it was a success, but with lyrics of a lovesong, and these to ABBA is a friendship story about mexican soldiers) The manager was right and everything was a success, one after another in that year 1976, with three singles #1 consecutives in UK Mamma Mía (2 weeks) Fernando (4 weeks) Dancing Queen (6 weeks) In addition, this variety of options had different results in each country. "Fernando" was a colossal success in Australia (14 weeks at #1 surpassed the mark of "Hey Jude" by The Beatles) and 7 weeks at #1 in Germany (as S.O.S.") "Dancing Queen" was 14 weeks #1 in Sweden and 6 weeks #1 in the U.K.and 8 weeks #1 in Australia Both were #1 in the U.S. but in various rankings: "Dancing Queen" on the Billboard and "Fernando" on Adult Contemporary The official video of "Fernando" was filmed in February 1976, with Dancing Queen the next day in these Official Video you could see: Bjorn & Benny, both in guitars Frida & Agnetha confronted both in frontal and profile images (repeating "Mamma Mia" technique used) premiering her gypsy style dress and a last comparation "Fernando" (1976) is first ABBA single with Frida in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released before ABBA) as "S.O.S." (1975) is first ABBA single with Agnetha in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released after ABBA) Thanks so much for these video and reaction I wish you a great week See you in the next My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

Yes her solo album Frida Ensam is incredible. That was promised to her to stay with ABBA by their manager Stig Andersson. She does a cover of Gary Puckett and the Union Gap "Young Girl " that is fantastic (even if it's in Swedish) she could have easily been a solo star. She didn't only have the voice but the confidence and awesome stage presence

Frida changed her hair style many times during the Abba years (and after). When you're familiar with the Abba story it's a great way to pinpoint by looking at her hair what year it is. 1976 she looked like that, then she let her hair grow and in 1977 it was longer, in 1978 she permed her hair but still long. Different in 1979 and so on.

While there is no piano in this song, there is a flute that sounds a lot like a Peruvian flute. The tune the flute plays also sounds very Peruvian to me. The song is about two old Mexican men and one named Fernando, reminiscing about old times. ABBA has always been extremely popular in Latin America who appreciate their occasional influence by Latin American stories and sounds. This song topped the charts all over the world in 1976. I was just a little boy at the time but I remember hearing it on the radio a lot.

Great song. Auburn haired girl is Anna-Frid aka Frida. She originally did this song as a solo in Swedish without Agnetha. She was working on her solo career taking a break from the group then called festfolk. They did some tv appearances that were not well recieved. Benny, Agnetha and Bjorn still toured together. Manager Stig Anderson wanted her back and promised her a solo album . That album was Frida Ensam (Frida Alone) she agreed to be part of the group again. They also changed their name to ABBA. Another great reaction to another great song. This one, like Chiquitta was featured on and album they did two year later but with Spanish lyrics on all 10 songs. The album went to no.1 in most South American countries, Spain and Mexico and thie song went back to no.1 as a single but this time in Spanish in most of them too. Although Bjorn is quite a linguist they were helped with rewording some of the songs but Fernando is very close to the original.

I let the music speak might be my favorite of them all. Of course it's a wonderful performance by Frida, but if you love music, the lyrics describe what music is all about. a separate comment for your next reactions You still need to know more about the brunette singer Frida as one of the two main voices of ABBA Knowing me knowing you (1977) and "Super Trouper " (1980) are two other ABBA #1s with Frida on lead vocals. but also the guitarist Björn sings some as lead voice Does Your Mother Know (1979) was #4 as a single in the UK although it is preferable to see it live in London 1979, in an inseparable sequence with "Hole in your soul" Unmissable! In addition to many other hits that have been suggested to you, you need to know the two extremes of ABBA: its beginnings and its return In its initial phase it starts with its first song "People need love" (1972) and reach their first worldwide hit "Waterloo" (1974) For both cases I suggest the two iconic presentations: 1) the first television presentation of the four together with "People need love" (when they were not called ABBA yet), there the four sing 2) the live performance at Eurovision 1974, when ABBA wins with "Waterloo" (better than the official video) and begins its world-famous story and on their return, because ABBA returned in 2021 after 39 years with a new album (and a new concert with Avatars of Themselves) his two leading songs of the new album are gems at their average age of 75 "I still have faith in You" also has an emotional official video and "Don't shut me down" gave ABBA their last Top 10 in the UK and last #1 in their native Sweden (also in Switzerland). I know it's a lot of information, but so you can see that this trip with ABBA still has many stations to explore.

Hello there Chase👍 Just a couple of facts about Fernando, one has already been mentioned in another comment below regarding it first been recorded by Frida, another one is this was released just before "Dancing Queen, Benny didn't want this to be released as a single and fought with Abba's Manager"Stig Andersson" (no relation to Benny) that "Dancing Queen be the next song to be released but Stig insisted that"Fernando" was the next single to be released by ABBA, if you were to ask most people what would be Abba's biggest selling single they would probably say "Dancing Queen" well they would be wrong, "Fernando was Abba's highest grossing single selling over 10 Million copies worldwide. I was one of the few lucky people who got to see ABBA live (London, Wembley Arena, November 1979) they only did Two World Tours, first in 1977 and then again in 1979. They are a phenomenal band to see live, so very different from their videos, you can see videos of their live concerts on you tube. They made a movie in 1977 called ABBA" The Movie" its story is centered around the Australian leg of their 1977 World Tour, some brilliant performances. Really appreciate your reaction videos to ABBA, I bet you didn't realise how deep a rabbit hole you were getting into😱🤣I hope you enjoy the journey. I think it is important to clarify that neither Benny was fighting or had no relationship with ABBA's manager, nor was he the one who didn't want "Fernando" to be an ABBA single, because Björn thought the same as Benny and they both wanted to release "Dancing Queen", was the manager who first released "Fernando" (which was already recorded) so as not to repeat the style of the previous single "Mamma Mía"

Chase, Chuck here in Durham, NC, enjoying your channel as always. I want you to try and understand how hard it was to admit you loved music like The Carpenters, Bread, John Denver et al, but especially the Carpenters. You were painted as sissy or worse, the "F" word, for listening to and enjoying their music. If you didn't like rock, especially acid and harder rock, you weren't a man. It was brutal in the 70s liking great melodies and voices of soft rock and pop music. Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some rock music, and there are great voices in the genre, to wit: Paul Rogers, Annie Wilson, Robert Plant, Burton Cummings, and so on. But lets face it, most rock group singers, well to be honest, it wasn't all about the vocal quality. That is why it is SO AWESOME AND VALIDATING to hear a young person like yourself and other reaction channels, fall in love with groups like The Carpenters and ABBA. You have no idea how much this means to me, Chase, here in 2024. We need music like this now more than ever! Keep reacting my young friend and stay happy, healthy and keep loving the music I grew up with.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

0:16 “the lead of the other girl”. Firstly, Frida (aka the other girl) and Agnetha (aka the one you have obviously heard more songs where she happens to be the one to sing lead) had pretty much an even split of lead vocals - Frida (aka the other girl) actually had 1 more at 25 versus Agnetha’s 24, the rest of the ABBA songs were either joint vocals or Bjorn lead vocal (on about 10 or so) and Benny on 1. ABBA had 9 number 1 UK singles and Frida was lead vocalist on more of these number 1 songs than Agnetha and it was the same in several European countries also. Both ladies are immensely talented and equally viewed within the group but I am getting sick to death of the sometimes deliberate and sometimes plain ignorance of people in disregarding facts or doing a bit of research, I find it disrespectful

This song contains a mistake in English. But anyone manage a song in another language and make it 1 in the world?

It's their best selling single with more than 10 million copies sold. Even more than Dancing Queen. So no, it's not one of their better songs but one of their BEST songs.

If you just want to hear the song, why check a reaction video, the point of this is to hear the reaction of the person listening. I prefer when reactors react during the song, and say what they think right away, it's super boring to watch someone just staring in silence during the whole song, and just comment at the end.

No how can you comment on something if you haven't heard it that makes no sense, how can you pass an exam or respond to anything if haven't listened to it Iin conversation I listen to what someone says then give a reply based on it I don't jump in based on feelings etc but your obviously telepathic or can see into the future

@@stefannils2032 It's a reaction video, not an exam. It's the point of it to "jump in" and express what you think and feel while listening. That has nothing to do with being telepathic. If a reactor has to wait to the end, then they perhaps forget half of the things that they could've said, if they had said it right away. Also, in most cases you have to interrupt videos, and make comment in between, when you do a reaction video, otherwise you would most likely get a copyright strike.

The copyright thing is the only thing that makes seen a while back I went to see a brilliant production of puccinis madam butterfly at the English national opera in London and me and the audience only got up and cheered at the act or of course at the end of the song one fine day I think most people would not have been pleased at constant interruptions at all you listen and then you show your appreciation that's how it's been for thousands of years I like people's reactions but not to the point were you lose track of a song
