This song was part of a 4 song 'mini musical' they did for their 1977 Australia tour. The other 3 songs are I'm A Marionette, I Wonder (Departure) and Get off the Carousel. It tells the story of a girl from a small town who dreams of stardom as a singer. But once she makes it big, begins to realise how ruthless and demanding the the world of stardom and fame can be. On stage there was a narrator to the story and both girls dressed indentical both with short blond wigs i.e. both playing the same main charactor, the girl with golden hair mentioned in this song. 3 songs feature on 'The Album' as Get Off The Carousel was dropped but was faetured as part of the movie they did based around the tour. The Movie meant they could spend time writing for the new album without facing another tour and Agnetha was pregnant with her and Bjorns second child.

Thank You For The Music is off of ABBA The Album, their fifth studio album, released in 1977. The song is part of a mini musical Benny and Bjorn put together, called The Girl With Golden Hair. At the time, they wanted to do a musical, and tried to do something on a small scale. It's about a girl who leaves her small town to become a star, just to find it's not all it's cracked up to be. The mini musical consists of three songs: Thank You for the Music, I Wonder, I'm A Marionette. There was a 4th song, Get On The Carousel, but it didn't make the cut for the album. But it was performed live with the rest, when ABBA toured Europe and Australia in 1977. This video was not performed live. It's them lip-syncing in front of a studio audience. But they did perform it live in their 1981 special with DIck Cavette interviewing them, and did a kind of unplugged version on the last interview as a group they did promoting their ABBA The Singles The First Ten Years album on the Swedish show "Nöjesmaskinen" in 1982, both of which can be found here on KZfaq.

Often I hear that an Abba song is their favorite, but it really seems to me that it just depends on our state of mind at each moment, it could be a title one day,Currently I like "slipping through my fingers" live BBC TV

If you mean the version from Dick Cavet show(the only one i know live) then it's from 1981 Swedish television.(SVT).I first time watched this in early '90s after an MTV Abba special. It was thrilling first time watch.I was in the sofa together with my wife(new parents at the time) and we got stunned from Agnetha's hearfelt delivery on the lead , we nearly cried.

I’m really enjoying these ABBA reactions, Chase. Your enthusiasm takes me right back to my childhood when I discovered them in the late 70s. As a recommendation, I’d suggest Voulez Vous (classic disco) and The Visitors (surprising dance-inspired number about paranoia and surveillance).

Hello, so nice to see you again with more ABBA songs to react and these is one of my request "Thank you for the music" (1977) has many interesting details There is an interview to Björn & Benny at 1976 Christmas time, there the reporter asks Them if have a preview of a song, and there both play the melody (without lyrics) of the future "Thank you for the music" "Thank you for the music" is the first song of the mini musical that ABBA performed on their 1977 Europe & Australia Tour the mini musical includes: Thank you for the music I wonder (departure) I'm a marionette Get on the carrusel (the last song is the only that wasn't released in their fifth album "ABBA The Album") "Thank you for the music" is at the end of "ABBA The Movie", and shows ABBA in their homeland again "Thank you for the music" it's a very special song for the blonde Agnetha She just came back with ABBA from Australis, shortly after She got pregnant with her second child When it was time to record it, She was in advanced stage of pregnancy, and to sing it She had to do it in a more forced position When you see her in each presentation, and included here in the official video, Agnetha's face seems to transform with joy when interpreting "Thank you for the music": her gestures, her looks and her pouting are unmissable "Thank you for the music" was used as the last number of ABBA to a lot of TV presentation; It's like an ABBA hymn and classic wasn't a single in UK (until 1983, after ABBA breakup), should have been the 3rd single of "ABBA The Album", follow "The name of the game' & "Take a chance on me" (two bangers that You didn't react yet) After the success of "Chiquitita" in Spanish-speaking countries, ABBA also recorded it in Spanish and it was a great success in my country Argentina. And the ABBA album in Spanish language was called just like that: "Gracias por la música" (Thank you for the music) In my personal opinion "Thank you for the music" is in my top 10 of all ABBA songs, for good lyrics, beautiful melody and greatest interpretation by a carismatic Agnetha and in my Top5 of all Agnetha as lead in ABBA and it is the last live performance of ABBA, They sung almost 'a cappella' at the end of the last interview of ABBA in 1982 I think that you coulld begin to react ABBA in live perfomances of their tours in 1977 and 1979 My suggestion is to "Summer night city" live at London UK 1979 There is a link in 'ABBA in Concert' in their KZfaq Channel I wish you a great weekend My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South América

As others have said it is part of mini musical. After ABBA broke up Benny and Bjorn went on to write full Musicals, Chess, Kristina, and Mama Mia. The girls, who by now you know were world class singers, went on to solo careers. The guys could write just about anything. Here's a hit song from Chess. Backup singers include Frida, Benny and Bjorn. While it made it quite high on American charts, I'm not sure many ABBA fans know this song exists. I'm not sure its worth a reaction video. It borders on rap. I just put it there for you to hear sometime. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9J9i7yKq9HWink.html

When Abba recorded their songs they tried out different ways until they got the finished released versions we all love. There's a previous version of this song that was included on the 4 cd box released in 1994, that has a few unreleased songs as well as a kind of fun medley called Abba undeleted with part of songs never released or completed. The engineer Michael B. Tretow during them in the studio had a tape on the side recording them. Could be fun for you to listen to even though they speak Swedish in-between. Gives you an insight on how much fun they had working in the studio. Anyway, the alternate version of Thank you for the music is called the Doris Day version. Michael B. Tretow released an album in 1976 called Let's Boogie, where on a couple of songs some Abba members appears. A fun album that shows some studio trickery of his. / Kenneth.

I know to you the 1970's and 80's seem like the Dark Ages. But believe me , they had High Definition , and in many cases better production that they have today. Before the age of Over Quantized tracks , and Auto Tune they relied on real , raw talent . Something I fear is lacking in today's uninspired , canned sounds. Try reacting to Queen ...especially their live music. And if you want to hear a modern band of Young folks who have the raw unprocessed talent and old school rock sound with a modern twist listen to the official video for " Heat Above" by Greta Van Fleet. You won't be sorry.
