I believe Tupac was only 19-years of age while writing/creating this song. When or where did we last see a 19 year old like this since time?. As a 19 year old he covered and broke down areas such as: Incest, Molestation, Teen pregnancy, Prostitution, Murder, Child neglect, Drugs, Destruction/destructive lifestyles and much more. He brought on and described huge issues within a whole community alone. He describes life through his music. He brought awarness and vision. He described a story, a message all in a cohesive way through the eyes of just one person. This song is beyond regular RAP music.. Its a message, a message of change, a message for help! A political message. Tupac was phenomenal!

All due respect, but if you were familiar with the history of Hip Hop then you'd know that there've always been political and social justice driven artists/songs & messages. Hip hop wasn't only about having fun/partying. It is 'Protest' music at it's core. Public Enemy, KRS-1 w/Boogie Down Productions, Poor Righteous Teachers, Brand Nubian, Last Poets, Stetsasonic, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, The Jungle Brothers, Dead Prez, X-Clan, Arrested Development, De La Soul, Black Sheep, Black Star, Queen Latifah, Digable Planets, Leaders of the New School, A Tribe Called Quest, Guru w/Gang Starr, Common, Nas, TALIB KWELI, MOS DEF, BLACK THOUGHT, KENDRICK LAMAR... Too Many Too Mention. From some in the field... "Starting out as the CNN of the ghetto, and a medium to express the hopes and frustrations of a disenfranchised community, hip-hop went from knocking on the door of the mainstream to becoming the mainstream. And over the years, hip-hop evolved..."

Some of the facts in the song are fictional, for example, Brenda (That is not her real name) was actually adopted by and living with her aunt. (Her father and mother died in a fire when she was four years old). "Brenda" lived in a three-bedroom apartment with her aunt, her cousin and two other men in their late teens or early 20s who are either cousins or brothers, her aunt who was named Gladys Perry was described by neighbors as emotionally unstable. neighbors also report that drugs and alcohol were always around. When Pac says "Brenda's bearly got a brain, a damn shame the girl can hardly spell her name." this is based on the fact that during the time girl was placed in a sixth grade class for slow learners. Another fact I would like to point out is that she didn't just throw her baby in a trash heap, she took the baby out to the hallway and dropped it down a four-story chute into a trash compactor. It was only by sheer luck that two garbage men heard the baby crying and rescued him because if the baby did not cry out it's almost certain that they would have activated the compactor and crushed the baby to death. Her cousin who was also her adoptive brother was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and with second-degree rape, and the girl was was charged as a juvenile with attempted murder. To my knowledge, she did not become a prostitute or get killed. according to the news article both here and her child were to be placed in foster homes.

The article of this was in the New York Times in 1991 you can look it up and read the whole thing. Two maintenance men found the baby crying just before they turned on the machine that crushes and compacts the trash. Thank god they heard him. Baby girl actually went to school right after giving birth. The cops found her though and she refused to say who the father was. As far as that particular article they didn’t charge her with anything. I remember when I was 12, and to be pregnant and give birth alone at that age. I can’t imagine the fear she must’ve been experiencing.

Also this was the very first track in which Tupac introduced himself to the general Hip-Hop fanbase or public. This was his very first big famous track and video. A ain't gonna lie... this was one hell of a way to introduce himself to the world.
