Dr. Osborne and Dr. Hamilton are amazing surgeons! My daughter had her Parotid gland removed her Freshman year of high school. It was a 4 cm benign tumor. Unfortunately, it grew back and her Medical Doctor kept telling her it was a cyst and wouldn't write a referral for an ENT doctor. She moved out of area as she is married to a US Navy man, and finally got to see another doctor(after 3 yrs of being put off). When she got her referral she had to go to 4 separate doctors. Prognosis wasn't good. There were multiple tumors and she had to go to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlotte. On February 6, 2017, my 23 yr old daughter went in for surgery. Dr. Shonka removed 28 tumors. And had to dissect the facial nerve. She has Frey's Syndrome worse now than before, her taste buds are a mess. She had facial paralysis for months so she only drank liquids, and she endured 6 wks of radiation with multiple side effects. She suffers from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts and has a scar that is very noticeable as a result of this. And it is now dimpled. I wish Dr. Osborne and Dr. Hamilton had been her doctors.

I have a ton of respect for a doctor who prays before a surgery. It is humbling to see a doctor who depends on Gods guidance before they cut into someone. Thank you.
@jasonpenn54763 жыл бұрын
I don't have respect for the doctors praying before surgery, I have respect for their compassion to pray with the family before the surgery. Regardless of their own religious beliefs, when doctors take the time to pray with the family, it shows that they have true compassion. Whether they pray on their own or not, and whether they pray before every surgery or not is completely irrelevant when helping ease a family through a difficult time. Taking the time to pray with the family truly proves that they care and are not only concerned with the wellbeing of the patient, but also with the patient's family. These doctors earned the respect that they deserve!

So happy to see it went so well for her! I found it interesting that they said this is rare in children. I had a parotid tumor removed at age 13 which resulted in a damaged facial nerve and paralysis. It was devastating as an 8th grade kid to wake up and not have a smile, afraid you’d be ugly forever. I eventually got feeling and some movement back but not the ability to raise the eyebrow, fully shut the eye, or draw the cheek and corner of the mouth up into a smile. I had been the top trumpet player in my school band and was never able to play the instrument very well again. This was in 1980 in a smaller city so not nearly the technology or expertise of the surgeon. I had to have 4 more repeat surgeries over the next 15 years as it kept growing back. One of those was done without anesthesia because right after college I didn’t have insurance. The last one was in 1996 by a specialist at the university hospital in Denver and finally it did not grow back. Amazingly I have no visible scarring. I suspect the trigger for tumor was possibly related to having the mumps, a virus that causes severe parotid inflammation, at age 5. That illness left me totally deaf in the ear on that same side. I’m very blessed that it was only one side and that being so young I was fully able to adapt to my new normal.

I've had it for just over a year and it's got bigger and bigger. I'm also having my adenoids done at the same time. My whole face will be ugly for a while. She's so brave! Luckily too! I haven't got the option for the surgery she had. I've got to have the the surgery around the ear. Hope hers never comes back!

The message in this video is so on point and what Ashley and her family taught the doctors and staff is completely true. What she said about how she was feeling before surgery and how she felt at peace and that God was with her and guiding the doctors hands as they operated is what I felt and went through starting in 2010 when I had to have immediate surgery to protect my spinal cord and repair the damage done to my vertebrae and spine. It is because of God and him bringing the right people into my life at the right time that I am here alive and not a quadriplegic on a respirator. I had been walking around with multiple spinal cord injuries from a car accident 20 years ago I was repeatedly misdiagnosed, was put down and told it was all in my head and if I would exercise and lose weight I would be fine. I couldn’t exercise because the pain was so severe and my legs would suddenly give out. I had to use a rolling walker to get around. I was losing feeling in both my arms and legs and other parts of my body and every step was an electrical jolt going down my arms and legs and I would be in tear due to the pain. I had to take control and demanded my doctor order an MRI that proved that it wasn’t all in my head. My spinal cord was being impinged in 4 places and the nerves were being crushed and cut off . My Neuro surgeon said that first I shouldn’t be able to do any of the things I was doing with the level of damage seen on the MRI. He said I was literally one wrong move from death or being permanently paralyzed. I felt the same way as Ashley did going in to my first surgery I completely trusted my surgeon and knew that God was protecting me. Since then I have had 4spinal/brain surgeries and 14+ surgeries and surgical procedures not including the treatments for breast cancer that decided to complicate things over the last 8 years. Before 2010 I did have other surgeries and surgical procedures done where I didn’t feel at peace and I should have known that I needed to say no to having whatever done. One was a surgery for carpal tunnel that I didn’t have. Know your rights, research get second and third opinions, if it doesn’t feel right don’t do it.

I found a very painful lump behind my ear. I was in my early 30s. I mentioned it repeatedly to our gp. He assured me it was likely a lymph node. By mid 40 there were times I considered removing it myself the pain was so bad. I was having recurring ear infections and mentioned to the ent how painful the lymph node was. He felt it set me up for a CT scan. He went over some of the possible outcomes, but from the position felt we had nothing to worry about. A few days later he removed the drain. 2 days my 18 year old son drove e back because my face had swolen up with liquid. I was shocked to see how much fluid was there. We were back again for my 1 week. He said we needed to talk. I knew what he had to say. I was 7 when my 13 year old uncle passed. My only thoughts were I needed to get my son out of the room, and I can't put my family through this. I had about 10 excuses to get my son out of the room, but he is not dumb. He refused to leave. Acinic Cell Carcinomia. A rare cancer my doctor had never seen before. He learned about it in med school. He said that the rest of the paritoid gland would need removal, increasing the chance of some paralysis.. Weeks worth of referrals. The swelling was no longer a problem. A small opening ripped at the base of my ear allowing fluid to escape. Yes it was disgusting and I kept tons of clean paper towels. This draining reduced the pain so I could think. My son and the doctor spent about 45 minutes looking up the cancer. I heard cancer and wondered how to tell my father and 98 year old grandfather we were going to go down this journey again. We live between two excellent cancer centers. The surgery was scheduled. Happy Valentine's Day. I give the anesthesiologist resident a ton of credit. I was terrified not for me but my family. I had 3 outcomes. 1 a bade slips and I blead out. 2 it has spread and more choices would need to be made. 3. 1st doc was correct his margins were good and the surgery would remove move lymph nodes and the entire parotid gland. Ending the constant fluid leaking out below my ear. 21 lymph nodes, and the glad we're all cancer free. The plastic surgeon did a great job. My neck is still stiff where they replaced the removed tissue. All scar lines are hidden in what I was assured would be wrinkles. Sadly he nailed it. My ear is sometimes numb. I after 6 years I can feel my face completely. The worst side effect occurred after the 12 inch drain was removed. It must have touched a nerve as it was pulled out. An hour later a pain radiated down my left arm. A few hours later I could not move it. I spent 8 weeks in physical therapy getting my arm working. God bless every one. My story could have ended differently

@CatherineFedoruk....It was a God Moment for sure. I was very impressed with both doctors. I especially was touched by the intelligence and compassion of Dr. Osborne and when he so unselfishly gave his reason for going against what he really wanted, and listened to the Spirit guiding him. This was an indepth operation, as this type of tumor threatened regrowth in her later years. He forfeited his desires to have Christmas, and schedule surgery afterwards. He realized the unforseen problems inherent such as paralysis and stretched hanging flesh which held the tumor. He wanted an all in one done and only a one time surgery. He was faithful and so God rewarded the teams effort. No tumor, excess tissue removed to avoid regrowth, and cosmetic surgery to remove outstretched skin. Patient would have no scars. God Bless them and theirs. Thank you God for the healings that are taking pace physically, spiritually and emotionally. In His Holy Name we pray. AMEN!
