I flew from Teesside airport to Faro (Portugal) in June 2002 for my honeymoon. It was a little busier back then! Easyjet use it as a training base these days. You can often see their new pilots doing touch and goes and circuits around the airport.

Yes they use the fact it's so quiet to their advantage, good for training with few interruptions

Growing up in Teesside, I remember when it was an air force base and going to an open day. Then there was the growth as a commercial airport followed by the decline. Hopefully it is on the upward slope again.

It hasn't been an air force base since 1964. Are you thinking of RAF Leeming? They used to have air shows and open days.

Let's face it, even Ryanair don't want to call it Durham Airport and move there.

Teeside Airport symbolises the problem with the UK in that it has facilities and space, but yet nobody wants to go there. Everybody, whether they be native or immigrant, want to cram into London and then spill out into the surrounding SE, or what is today in reality the Greater London area. Why is that? In the SE such an airport would have failed commercially and would subsequently been built over with houses, offices, shops etc.

Is that Teeside Airport, the Netherlands? 🤣

Hi is there a space outside the airport to pack a lunch and take my small children to watch planes take off. My 2 year old would absolutely love it and think a small airport is probably the best bet.

Yes with picnic tables 😊

There can be really long periods of absolutely nothing happening though, so be prepared for that - the kids will soon get bored. Better off taking them to Leeds Bradford or Newcastle.
