The only time I've seen someone eat the skin is when we pick up a class of Army Rangers from survival training. We usually get a bag of 20 cheeseburgers and just chuck it to them in the back of the chopper as soon as we are airborne. It's a super short flight so they just inhale the food. The burgers don't always get skinned depending on hunger levels and state of mind.

The ones who knew didn't fall for it, they joined in on the bit, which is way more fun.

I always prefer the clamshells from white castle over the skinned burgers... but you can't get them everywhere, sometimes you just got to get a skinned burger.

It is supposed to be fast food. Why would they give you food that needs to be peeled first. Therefore you would by default eat the skin. Unless you personally don't like it, then you can remove it yourself. But by default the skin is eaten.
