Tekken 8 really shaved off the extra stuff. It made it pretty glaring by comparison how much Tekken embraced the "extra" in past games. Tekken 7 was a last shot without a great budget so hopefully they take their time and load up tekken 8 with all the care, personality and features past games had and more. They sure as hell have the budget for it now.

Considering how much work has been put into Tag 2 and how much success Tekken 7 made in comparison it's safe to assume the amount of work doesn't necessarily equals the profits. Hence why i expect T8 to be as lacking as 7 unfortunately
@joshjones97492 жыл бұрын
@@LightWavess Tekken 7 wasn't stripped of everything tho. One big thing I give it credit for was since they only had so much money to pour in they poured most of it into the fighting engine. For those first couple seasons...outside of a few hiccups...we saw in my opinion a close to perfect fighting system(before they added all the problem characters). I attribute T7's success to the innovations they made in the combat, which influenced its success in the pro scene, which sparked hype and excitement with the tekken world tour, which made alot of old players and new players want to play the game. They succeeded because of their innovations not because of what was stripped away.

Fun fact tekken 7 was the cold emotionless thing it was because of the poor sales of tag 2. They had the bare minimum for budget which led to them switching to unreal engine because it was cheaper and assets could be imported quickly into it. The fact that t7 did so well means they get to have the war budget again and we can get to see these type of interactions as well as a return to a decent customization again

Tekken 7 feels like an open source fighting game a lot of the time. The series has so much personality, and it's obvious that a lot of that personality was lost to focus entirely on mass appeal and esports
@sounghungi2 жыл бұрын
It probably has to do with Tekken 7 being a financial risk for Namco. It's easy to think how Tekken is doing great now but after Tag 2 and Revolution, the interest for Tekken was at an all time low. This is probably why the endings in Tekken 7 aren't even fully rendered videos.
@bigbone_992 жыл бұрын
@@sounghungi This. IIRC in interviews Harada said that they really had to struggle to get Tekken 7 greenlit. Especially after the commercial failure of TTT2. On top of the stripped down endings, it seems like they put their resources in the story mode to gain wider appeal, it was a heavy part of the marketing of the game when it first came out. When you think about it that way, there's good reason why they'd focus on the big thing that would get people into the game rather than smaller stuff
@FahmiZFX2 жыл бұрын
Not really, it's mostly because the failure of Tag 2 made the budget for T7 much lower. I don't think they expected serious success with the game seeing as how Tag 2 went.

a lot of the personality was lost because of a smaller budget, so of course they had to make animation cuts. thats why the character customization is so shit. please dont make any baseless assumptions about "mass appeal" and esports
@capnbarky26822 жыл бұрын
@@eisenkatsu they're not baseless assumptions, all of these assets are already made and can be ported over, they constantly repackage old animations into new dlc characters. It is a business decision that the game is more bland, and they've been rewarded by having it be the most commercially successful entry for decades The fact that people will run defense for a product with such defects is honestly the worst part of Tekken really, even the slightest criticism of the game is immediately dismissed as blind hatred. The Tekken community is basically like a religion.

I guess they wanted to get rid of any semblance of humour so as not to tarnish what (according to them) should be perceived as one of the most serious chapters in Tekken history.
@BakingSoda4U2 жыл бұрын
@The Tyro of Toriyama I was talking about the exterior appeareance of the game's main plot: the end of Heihachi's struggle against the devil gene, resulting in his own death. Subplots or characters irrelevant to this story are not taken into account. "I doubt that the reason they removed the best parts of the series was for the sake of the best of the series" They carved their own tombs the moment they made humour an integral part of the series; they were probably looking at 80's action movies from both the west and east to get their sense of balance between serious scenes and comic relief. and I can't really say they did a horrible job, but it's sloppy at best: sometimes comedic scenes are played right before dramatic plot points in a way that feels a bit jarring. They probably wanted to avoid this at all costs with Tekken 7.
@pauloazuela84882 жыл бұрын
@@BakingSoda4U The technical thing is they budget restraint they have. So they went cheap for it. Honestly the combat was finr and good for esports despite the money. They don't have much excuse later in T8 since t7 is widely successful. They can bring back what's lost

The TK and VF devs made the mistake of completely focusing on the competitive aspect of their games in aspects like stage making. And that slowed down both games' evolution in the aspect of stages. A modern PS4 (and PS3 for VF) could have done much more interesting and impressive ideas, considering what Sega did in VF3 and Namco in TK4 and 5. The solution is simply make some "competitive" stages and some "standard" stages with interactions, obstacles, lots of details, etc. Creating that challenge the own devs to display complete technological evolution of their games. So those two aspects stop fighting against each other in every new release. Either that or the Smash Bros solution: every stage is detailed by default, but you can choose a "competitive" version of each one. They lose all details and objects and have a simplified background.
@GenesHand2 жыл бұрын

Unfortunately those were lost due to technical issues. In order to see both Yoshis, you need to be playing on a setup running at 60 fps. At 30fps you'll only see one of the two Yoshis, so the throw ends up looking very bizarre. Harada once commented on how a lot of fans wrote in either to complain or question whats going on with the throw so Namco eventually decided to abandon it since not everyone plays on 60fps setup and people were way less tech savvy back then too, so it also was harder to explain.

1:08 didn't Harada mention Kuma's fart move being removed from Tekken 7, or else the age rating for Tekken 7 would have been higher or some nonsense like that? I hope I'm talking out of my backside. 😂

0:39 how did I never know this existed?
@ArcienPlaysGames2 жыл бұрын
Few people probably played Marduk in TTT2 due to the fact that double capos, double bob, and a slew of other tag teams were just better options (is my educated guess, but I'm obviously not sure). This is myself included, I had no idea this existed.
@lel7202 жыл бұрын
@@ArcienPlaysGames actually I believe it's because you need to play with Marduk AND ling on your team, which is not exactly a common combination of character preference, and you have to finish a Jin with Marduks tackle

I'll tell you what Tekken 8 doesn't need... These 10-12 second super hyped rage looking quick time combo animations that ruin the pacing of match like in Tekken 7. You know the big elephant in the room that hasn't aged well, especially in the 20+ year veteran circles.

This is why Tekken 7 will remain one of my least favorite entries in the series. It's really soulless and devoid of the fun and wacky spirit that the older games had. T7 has good gameplay, but it just doesn't feel the same.
