Tekken really does give more love to throw break animations than any other fighting game I know. Most other fighting games have a universal or 1 throw break animation for each type of throw. And the animations often don't make sense and are meant to be visually distinct. Tekken throw breaks look realistic and fluid, to the point I didn't even realize what was going on at first, simply because I was used to games making very obvious there was a throw break. And, most of all, Tekken throws have CHARACTER.

The one thing i love about throw breaks in Tekken is that it doesn't usually makes both fighters return into neutral, some throws leave the attacker in disadvantage and some switches the fighter's side, making it also impact the flow of the fight and leaving players often have to think about going for a throw or not.

I wish you would have shown the throw break for Marduk’s tackle. Normal characters just sway away from it. But if you play the grapplers: Armor King, King and Dragunov too I think, they will actually defend the takedown by sprawling giving them a unique throw break animation for it. That is realistic with freestyle wrestling and Sambo. That’s what I love about this Tekken, there are little details that make it real to people of all martial arts. For me as a freestyle wrestler this detail is so damn cool. The devs know their martial arts and fighting styles.

That Julia animation is the grab from T6 Lili's headdress. When Lili had the headdress equipped, you could do a special grab during which Lili would handstand over the opponent's shoulders flipping over to their back and then she would knock them in their back with her butt doing that kind of taunt animation waving her hand while flexing her butt at them. This item, and the grab with it, was made generic for all females (yes all females, including Panda, but not Roger Jr. for some reason, lol) in TTT2. I don't know the command for T6 Lili's headdress throw, but the command for the female headdress throw in TTT2 was d+1+2+3. It was useful for TTT2 Kunimitsu since she didn't have a throw breakable with 1+2 (yeah because that grab was broken with 1+2).

1:34 So playing Dragunov I've gotten the arm bar reversal a few times (I hit 1+2 then mash 2 as fast as I can, you may be able to do it just by mashing 1+2), but what's neat is that it can happen if Drag's tackle is reversed, they go for the arm bar then you reverse it into your own armbar. It looks like some crazy high level grappling, but unfortunately it does absolutely shit damage haha.

Just in current 3D fighting games I’m pretty sure Virtua Fighter would be the most annoying since there’s way more possible throw break options and every character has a complete throw game (Virtua Fighter throws aren’t supposed to be broken 90% of the time like Tekken throws though). But in Tekken 6 and earlier the break window was a lot smaller.

Dude, I never played Tekken until this year, but played fighting games besides Tekken all my life. I've seen throw breaks during KoF matches by rolling that were ingenious. I've double flawlessed all my friends in MK, and I don't even use the "grab button." But when I play Tekken, and I can't tell if the camera is going to switch for a grab, or if its a cheeky well-animated reversal, that shit is insanely hype. I've never played a grappler so hard as when I play King, and I've never been so focused as when I am fighting against King. His entire system puts MK, and pretty much everything other than Street Fighter, to shame. GG Strive is very cool with how the grabs work, and the animations are sublimely beautiful. Tekken takes the same artistic philosophy of being cinematic, while also being functional in the animation design and camera placement. Even when you miss a grab and see the purple star, you start to sweat a bit, because you know that grab almost landed. Just gotta try it again and hope the opponent didn't get the same idea. Tekken 7 is the best fighting game ever made, and I can NOT wait for 8, but I guess I have to. Lets just say, I've never kept my neighbors up so consistently playing any other game. The moments of "WTF JUST HAPPENED??" occur basically every set.

It's not too much at all. The beauty of Tekken is that all of this comes naturally. You really can just push buttons and learn this game intuitively. That's the beauty of Tekken. So many moves are simply done on instinct once you press enough buttons and begin to understand how characters move. With so many characters there is always going to be one that feels like an extension of your personality or fantasy. It's really easy to get immersed in that character like it's your own body. It's a fun experience I say Tekken does strongest out of all fighting games. The nuance you see in the throws carries over to just how well thought each simple button press can be. So many awesome styles and charm. :)

Tekken, Ehrgeiz, Fighter's Destiny, Tobal and Virtua fighter has some awesome Throwbreak Animations. I love it. I Especially Love Ehrgeiz because there's a quick Visual Cue that lets you know when to Tech.

Yes it does, that's why pros sometimes go for certain throws even if they know they will probably get broken, because even if they break them you can get a side switch and put your opponent at the wall.

@CheeseYoni Yeah I’m very happy that I was biggest fan of *TEKKEN* I really like how they’re having Characters to perform their Combos and balance to as well for the Animation about other fighting games relationship linking between to Tekken video game franchise + My character is: Kunimitsu just because it’s likely to be Ninja Character she might have deeper connection with Yoshimitsu when I was excited for her Reveal Trailer she felt like wants to get revenge on Yoshimitsu for bothering with him all the time it’s alright that had happened nearly every time for his own Reaction for me my *Vision / expectation* I’ll say that TK8 will be Entertainment, Exceptional and HUGE Game it’s like Next Era Level of Generation for FGC you know that’s Reality and unreality theory with this Ideal Storyline.

Tekken is one of the only fighting games that cares about the actual fighting element. I don't remember which one it was because I was a casual player when I was a kid, but when I ran into my cousin's character and tackled him, I was mind blown that you could ground and pound. Never experienced something so unique in a game until Fortnite with its building mechanic (please don't flame, lol)

I've always loved how they give them true fluidity. Overall I'm loving SF6 so far but throw breaks look really bad in it, hopefully they change it up to something a bit more believable than static movement backwards.

I disagree. With how throw techs are meant to reset to neutral and the fact that throws are unreactable, having Tekken style break animations are a waste of time (they take too long) and unreasonable to expect. Also most throw break animations are closer to SSF2 throw techs since you're already in the process of getting thrown. Current throw tech animations stop the throw entirely, which makes more sense.

Did anyone notice how the term, "throw" has a very different meaning in the context of fighting video games than in the real martial arts? What fighting games call a "throw" would be considered a "grappling attack" in the martial arts. I think it is rooted in Street Fighter 2, where most of the grappling attacks were throws. Most, but not all. E. Honda's clinch + knee strike was a grappling attack, but not a "throw" (within the context of real martial arts). I think that after SF 2, all grappling attacks in fighting games were generally called, "throws". The term has stuck. And what they call a "throw break" would be called an "escape" or "grappling escape" in the real martial arts. If one BJJ student attacks his opponent with a triangle choke and that opponent frees himself from it, that would be considered an "escape", not a "throw break". Video game throw = grappling attack Video game throw break = grappling escape

Yeah, but "grappling attack" has 3 more syllables than "throw" so throw it is. Imagine a commentator trying to say that mouthful during a fast-paced match

Tekken 5 (I think) is the first Tekken game to show the throw break animations. It was just the generic throws & Paul FF 1+2, Marduk FF 1+2, & King/Roger Jr. Giant Swing. T5 DR & onwards added more throw break animations.
