I hate that speedkicks explanation on spacing and movement within that space is exactly what I needed to hear but I would have NEVER found this gem of information if I wasn't subscribed to Diaphone and if I didn't decide to watch this video specifically. This is what I mean by fighting game knowledge is hard to find. It's difficult to find what you need simply because you don't know what you don't know and can't figure out how to search for something like that.

Yeah in tag 2 in character tutorials people used to have a recommended range they'd tell u to play the character at. Bygone tradition but I noticed during tekken 7 without that nobody mentions anything about spacing online to play at range 2 or 3. Even the lingo is dead damn near cus we have real numbers for range.

Well you also have to consider that you need to be at a certain level of play before this advice is even worth giving you. And basically all educational content is targeted at beginners. You’re not going to find stuff like this packaged in a beginner’s guide. This is past that.

I like that you included some ranked at the end to try and implement, ty. A lot of times these sorts of vids end with the knowledge, which is still very useful, but seeing you learn and apply helps a lot as a viewer.

The part is about tekken being a "fast game" despite it being "slow" in a literal sense is SO true, and its true of most 3D games, because the amount of decisions you are constantly making is so high. This is partly because less stuff leads to full combos than most 2D fighters. I'm a huge fan of the soulcalibur series, and that game FEELS really fast despite it technically being even "slower" than tekken if you look at frame data, for two main reasons. #1: the movement is cracked, side stepping is even stronger in SC than it is in the past few iterations of tekken. #2, so little of your hits will convert in to combos, so you are constantly thinking like "okay im plus 6 at this distance with this specific hit, what can i do with that?" And on top of that the game has very string defense options so the rps is quite deep. So you are constantly making decisions instead of just auto piloting into combos/oki all of the time. Its not uncommon for multiple rounds in a row to be won without a single launch, death by 1000 cuts type of deal. Its certainly not for everybody but man i wish calibur got the love (and the netcode) it deserves😢

This just reminded me, it'd be so cool to see Diaphone try out Soulcalibur2! There's a small community which is really great, they made a mod where you can see frame data in practice mode and everything, but it's SO small. I really wish there were more people playing 😭

I think when people say Tekken is slow, they're not taking the lack of hitstop/blockstop into account. In a game like Guilty Gear, you have 3-8 frame buttons with 10-18 frames of hitstop (even more on counterhit). In Tekken, the game only stops for Rage Arts and Heat Bursts.

@jon630 This is also true, games like GG also have like more or less universal hit/block stop based off of "attack level" on different classes of normals, where as its kinda all over the place in 3D fighters, I remember running into moves in Soulcalibur where the move would be like -18 on block or some crazy shit like that and you would never know from the animation, so you have to just get really good at seeing that attack animation and immediately associating it with a certain punish on your character.

That was a great session. Sometimes I would forget something as basic as a jab check too, but it's so important. At least until my opponent keeps doing high crush moves haha. Then it's important to mix it up with a mid check

I don't know how he is made to sell copies, I hate him. He's like noctis to me. But at the same time I hate everyone I'm fighting in this. That's the only game that makes that impression on me. Elsewhere there's only a handful of characters you don't like playing against (JP, Kimberly, Rashid and Guile for example). Here it's the entire cast. What's even weirder is I can' t stand mirror matches as Reina. They're all better than me unless they drop their controller or something.

I wouldn’t call purple rank intermediate, if you count the total number of people that purchased Tekken 8 and you were in the top 1%, I am in the purple rank and that puts me on the leaderboard of the top 10,000 (so I’m sure this applies to you as well) for arguments sake let’s say 1 million copies of the game was sold which is definitely more. What is 1% of 1 million the answer is 10,000. So your in top 1%. Now taking into consideration that the majority of people that purchased a game are not good at it and do not play online matches (mainly because they play for fun) out of the competitive people playing you’re probably better than 80% of them at purple. Intermediate would be orange rank.

I think you gotta separate general audience vs tournament play here. IE he is well above average as a person playing Tekken, but he's just hitting the intermediate skill lvl of like a 2-2 / 3-2 player in tournament play. Which is the metric allot of higher lvl players in fgs (Diaphone) have. IE if you ask a Strive or SF high lvl player if the average Master or Celestial player is good, you'll get a resounding "hell no!". When compared to your grandma they are Gods of the game.

@@Raptor12213 what I said is mathematically true you could ask anybody, you can’t compare the average person or even people that are good at the game to professional players. Not to take anything away from professional player they are exceptionally really good at the game but there’s only about a couple 1000 of them out of millions of people that bought the game. let’s be real if your in purple rank you’re doing great. Do you realize the small amount of people that are in the blue rank and above. Blue rank is basically a lot of tournament players and above that are the best of the best. Like I said being in purple rank is being in the top 1% of everybody and you’re probably better than 80% of people that are competitively playing. Numbers don’t lie. The guy on this channel he’s a lot better than he’s giving himself credit for that’s all I’m saying. (I don’t know what rank you are but go ahead check if you were in purple rank you’re going to be on the leaderboard right now or really close)

You can’t compare a professional player that is in the 0.01% the players and think if your not on there lvl your not good. As for your basketball comment I’m sure there are really good players out there that are better than 99% of people in the world at basketball but could they beat Michael Jordan NO. Being in the top 1% is a huge feet, being the best or being able to play at the best level is only going to be occupied by a handful of people.

I'm having problems with people who seem to have perfect defense. I play Steve Fox so it sort of feels like everybody knows the matchup so well which puts the onus of skill on me. Specifically, I feel like to improve my defense needs to improve. I'm thinking about just getting every character to rank 15 to improve my sense of match-up knowledge.

You shouldn't rush to get out of purple, you should really take advantage of your time in those ranks to learn the game. You still have many bad habits like mashing "expulsion" after eating moves on hit, I saw it on your stream a few times. The difference between people at blue and above is that they have all learned when to press and when not to, they understand the game and will take advantage of someone who mashes fairly quickly

I feel like this is just what happens in pretty much every game at the higher ranks. Whether it's fighting games, Overwatch, Destiny, or just about anything, you keep hearing about the players up top playing each other all the time. I'm sure there are pros and cons but I imagine some people might actually appreciate that for various reasons.

Tekken 8 they make it abit easier than Tekken 7, it's easy to execute combo wave dash and ewgf easy yeah i guess it's for the new players, especially the special style. Need balancing in the game. Dragunov is ridiculous, Hwoarang is yeah Hwoarang mash it you win, King is strong with 50.50 grab, Jin easy friendly to play, Victor grab is bug and when everything is lost "EXPRESSION" 😂. Nonetheless it's a great game.

I don tunderstand how people get high ranks in tekken, but then can not get outof the higher rank. Tekken is the only game where you can button mash, and or play tactical. So yall just be fighting people that trade iwn? or fighting lower rank people or some sht? Cus when I play tekken, I get to a point where people are more patient, then I switch characters, or play a little more patient too, and I start winning again. I don't get how people get stuck in low ranks and high ranks ina game where you literally have to learn everything you do, because at a very clear point, button mashing become incapable. Im ppretty sure yall just play bad players, then get boosted from the hours when no good players are on, and youstart getting clapped in the rank because your rank is inflated, and you don't actually suk you are just boosted af

Yea ranked is a bit whack, when I first started as a newer player, all the way up to red ranks I've fought ppl 2-3 ranks higher then myself. The moment I hit red rank that's when I started fighting more of a mix of ppl my rank, and lower. We'll see what happens now that I'm in purple ranks.

I love how the first thing this dude teaches is dash jab. What an absolutely useless coach. At this level you will die for dash jabbing. His issue is not movement. Its the inability to create space via other means and maintain space. This is the most fundamental skill in intermediate tekken. Its a shame that people will fall for this trap as I have in the past. This does not make you better. It just makes your learning of the game inconsistent. Saj
