My favourite eyepiece is a SVBONY 7-21mm Zoom eyepiece, saves me the hassle of switching eyepieces, the eye relief is really good. I will switch over to a different eyepiece if I need to. It was not so expensive.

I bought a 40mm Angeleyes 2" a few months ago and just got to use it a few days ago... I had to go find my socks because the view blew them off!! I was shocked at how good the view was in my 45 year old 12.5" f6 newt. Yes there was coma towards the edge of field but I just ordered a field flattener so we'll see if it solves that... if not I won't complain!

Yes at f/6 it is a perfectly fine eyepiece.

If by field flattener you mean coma corrector, there will still be some astigmatism left over from the eyepiece. They really need f8, or f10. But still OK at f6. The 41mm panoptic and 40mm es68 does a much better job

My favourite eyepiece is a budget champion - the 25mm Explore Scientific (plastic bodied) Plossl which came with my 10" Hybrid Truss made by them (another budget powerhouse). It is able to consistently resolve the 5th star of the Trapezium in M42, the Orion nebula - outperforming Naglers and other eyepieces costing cubic dollars more. The field of view is excellent in all telescopes it is used with, to their optical limits. All for a measly $15, though you should contact them directly to get one, as they don't sell them individually on the online shop. The supplied 10mm is equally fine, and equally inexpensive. Other members of the astronomy club have been blown away by the resolution of these cheapies.
@astralfields1696
@astralfields1696 3 ай бұрын
The reason here is that cheaper eyepieces simply have a lot less glass than the premium ones who need to have 7+ elements to achieve the superb view across a wide field. Plossls are a bit too narrow for my taste as well as the eye relief of my 10mm doesn't work at all for my eyes... but other than that, they are flawless for the FOV they provide. In fact, I use my 25mm to take pictures of the sun through my cell phone.

Hi. Which lens and barlow you use for that nice Jupiter? I can't see like that. And how magnification started blury on your testing? My higher setup is 400x (6x lens and 2x barlow). I mean buy 3x barlow for 600x, but not sure. I only used Dobson for half of season, and maybe not saw perfect atmosphere yet. Btw you have great videos.

@astralfields1696 6 ай бұрын
Hello, this is done with a dedicated astronomical camera but normally for my telescope the best Jupiter is with a 6mm and a 2x Barlow. You can try a 3x Barlow on an exceptionally good night. Even so you will need perfect seeing conditions to see it this well visually as well as when Jupiter is closest to earth (now it is getting away as we speak) Also you will need very good collimation of the telescope.

I actually still use the 10mm achromat sometimes, why? My 8mm BST is just blurry in the uk on most nights and the other closest I have is a 15mm omni plossl. In my 120mm refractor, stars are sharp in most eyepieces as long as im not pushing the power too much. I managed to hunt doubles to about 4' seperation in cassiopeia the other night with the 10mm but being a glasses wearer, the eye relief is pretty bad. In my 127mm mak that achromat is just terrible..the 25mm still gets use. M35 looks amazing with it! But that scope is known show narrow views regardless.

What a helpful video, I have 127eq telescope what do you suggest an eyepiece to buy(it came with 20,4mm), where can i get that emulator?
@astralfields1696
@astralfields1696 9 ай бұрын
Hello. The 127EQ is a very bad telescope. If at all possible please consider changing the telescope to something better like a 6" and 8" DOB. See this video for more information of why your telescope is not good to further invest into: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f76WhZqKuayZkWg.htmlsi=9CA99k6W2L8Iohpv If you insist on getting another eyepiece, I would go with the SVBony 7-21mm Zoom. This one should cover a wide range.

Those .965 eye pieces are rare now and I don't think that anyone makes telescopes in it so i would keep them as they might become quite collectable.I had 2 telescopes,a refractor and a reflector ,in .965".The problem is nobody made quality .965" eyepieces whereas 1,25" has both ends of the spectrum and 2" only high quality.

@@astralfields1696 20 years ago when I got my first "big" scope, orion skyview pro127mak, it came with the synta versions of the 25mm and 10mm sirius plossls, which were different than the GSO made ones sold separately. I have found the synta plossls that came with scopes, such as these and the 25mm E-lux plossl that comes with celestron SCTS, to be superior in performance to all but the best japanese made ones. The version of the 10mm that had the raised metal ring around the lens, that came with mine, was absolutely stunning optically. Only my japanese 9.7mm meade super plossl, and 10mm ultima style, and televue plossls put up a better view in that type of eyepiece. I did however let it go with the package that I sold to a fellow band member at the time, it was the 127 ota, and my 80gt goto mount upgraded with a baader dovetail bracket and n4/5 style tripod, along with a 2" dielectric diagonal and 42mm superview and the original 25mm and 10mm plossls and a barlow, so he wouldn't need to buy anything. I would have included "lesser" gso plossls, but I always sold the 25mm and 9mm plossls that came with the many GSO scopes I bought from hardin, my 8" f4, and later when they had the fire sale, a 6"dob, 6"f5 eq, and 90mm.f11 refractor. It all added up to the next scope or premium eyepiece, in the PayPal account. Now I make it a habit to keep the plossls and MA eyepieces so I don't have to part with a sleeper like that 10mm with the raised ring. The 25s are plentiful, and the 10s without the raised ring aren't bad, and are plentiful, but I do wish I still had that 10.

a dobsonian skywatcher 150/1200 to start is ok?
@tuunaes
@tuunaes 10 ай бұрын
For that size SkyWatcher is excellent coming with 2" focuser (vs 1.25" in most) allowing getting proper wide view eyepiece to find targets more easily and watch wide targets like Pleiades or closely grouped targets. 1.25" barrel diameter can give good FOV only in below 1000 mm focal length telescopes. In 200mm size SkyWatcher is again seriously lackluster and GSO made Dobsons are far superior with ~300 $/€ worth better accessories.
@astralfields1696
@astralfields1696 10 ай бұрын
Hello, I would have to say No. Very soon you will realize all the ways an 8" is better and will feel bad for not spending a few extra $$ on the 200/1200. No matter how I look at it, a 6" these days is really not a good value for a beginner. It is not a bad scope but the 8" is simply so much better for only a bit more money and bit more weight. Problems with 6" 1) A lot less light and 33% less resolution than the 8" 2) Can come with a plastic focuser, a non-crayford focuser or out right it may not even have a 2" focuser 3) Due to the secondary mirror size it may not fully utilize the 2" eyepieces. The only nice advantage of the 6" is the f/8.. so maybe if somebody used it only for the planets and they really couldn't go with anything bigger.
@astralfields1696
@astralfields1696 10 ай бұрын
@@tuunaes Yes. If I were buying today an 8" I would have to go with the GSO. It has better accessories and a dual speed focuser, plus it is cheaper. Meaning once I do go for the 12", I will likely get the GSO.

25mm Plössl is perfectly fine for some 800mm, max 900mm focal length telescope and very easy and comfortable to view. But in 1200mm focal length telescope Plössl becomes too narrow to be good for anything: View is too narrow for low magnification, and magnification is way too little for more compact objects. (and too light to be good paper weight) Really shamefull how SkyWatcher doesn't give entry level/starter quality eyepiece capable to showing top showpiece objects Pleiades/Praesepe etc in 200P and bigger.
