Promo video from the Telethon CD 2005. I like to call this style SPEED TWANG! It's not really chickin pickin, it's more of a hybrid, bluegrass flatpicking, meets Eddie Van Halen pull off licks using lots of open string runs with triplet and quadruplet rolls to build speed. All laying over the top of a Richie Blackmore (Purple era) style rhythm riff. You can find all of Forrest Lee Jr's instruction videos on Ebay or at www.OutWestRecords.com

yeah, perfectly right. getting to terms with country guitar playing is highly suitable for learning to improvise over chords because the underlying harmonies are generally simpler than those in e.g. jazz. not having to analyze complicated harmonies at the same time you can concentrate more on technical aspects, speed etc. you can easily go on to jazz and more complex harmonic concepts later. as with speed and technical ability you could as well stay with country a very long way, though...

Dag (so I do not have to use American swear words) Mashing is a term used in the bluegrass community to pick solid and throw down with licks one has been working on for YEARS making them sound "effortless". Sorry for any confusion. I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor from this video. I think I will just stick to electric and acoustic banjo! And let the best do their thing! Banjoistically yours, Jon Eric

Either he has a B-bender installed or he does like the rest of us and bends the B string down with the index finger. Takes some practice. The actual theory behind what he is doing is not that difficult. It's a basic 1,4,5 progression (sort of) and a lot of 7th chords and "sus" notes ~ It's not nearly as difficult as it sounds, whereas "Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen *is* actually as difficult to play as it sounds. That's the fun of country music I suppose ~

You're right, I'm focusing on the wrong thing... but I must tell you that I think your analogy is a bit off. I wouldn't make fun of a baseball player for using a glove, but I would criticize a middle-fielder for using a 100 foot cast net instead of a glove. In your analogy the baseball player is the musician and the glove is the GUITAR - not the tabs - All I was trying to say is that everyone seems to want everything done FOR them these days. Grow a pair and do it yourself.

No Blues Deville.... I dont like the tone. This amp is a Peavey classic 50. Now I have a BOLT 100watt and it's the best amp I've ever played through... Hey guys, please dont fight about TAB. Its not worth it. I use a Boss CS2, and collect them if you wanna sell one cheap!!! :)

@amoskowitz0103 - are you disturbed? Big deal if somebody wants some tabs. Does it really hurt you? I'm sorry that not everyone was born a virtuoso like you. Exactly how long did it take your albums to go gold? There is nothing wrong with tab. Would you make fun of a baseball player for using a glove? Use the tools that are available to you to make you a better player. If you want to spam me for writing this go right ahead, but don't belittle people for trying to learn to play using tab.
