TV in the US and the UK is so different! But what exactly makes British TV so British, and what makes American TV so American? Let's dive in and chat specifics!
Jay Foreman: / jayforeman51
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

I’ve noticed this whilst watching sports on tv. I watch a lot of sport and am from the UK so the norm in the sport I watch where the presenters will look and talk to each other when discussing whatever game they are analysing. However watching the NHL on US TV is that the pundits will talk and look at the camera when discussing the game

I don't think it's been mentioned, but when US cartoons were shown in the UK on channels like boomerang and cartoon network, they stuck to UK ad breaks and that meant there were parts where an ad break was obviously meant to go like a cliffhanger moment which would go to black and then the scene would continue slightly after without an ad break. I remember it most on Scooby Doo.

You should see drug ads in US magazines. I work for a heath magazine and since it's required by law to include all the side effects and everything, drug ads are typically 2-4 pages! And the drug company has to pay for those extra pages, they don't get a flat rate like your actual ad is one page but since you have to have 3 pages of fine print we'll just throw that in. Nope gotta pay for your pages of fine print which easily will be five figures. Says a lot about drug companies in the US...

I've watched this video a few times recently and I've finally worked out why it appeals to me so much. It is so refreshing to see someone passionately talk about how remarkable the BBC is. @@sirwizalot7164 Hi! I'd love an example of this propaganda? I'm very open minded and can change my mind if presented with strong enough evidence. A call of propaganda has to be pretty strongly backed up, I'd need a very strong set of examples to go with you on this but open to it. From what I can tell all sides of the political divide tend to not be keen on the BBC, which to me is a strong indication that it's doing something right. It has its problems, not exactly delighted about the coverage it gives to the likes of Steve Bannon or Tommy Robinson but most institutions have their issues. It doesn't mean we should dismantle the whole thing.

@MichaelKingsfordGray Hi there! Sadly not a BBC employee, although I'd love the wages. Also thankfully no mental health issues. I do know several people who do have their problems though and it really does upset me seeing what they're going through. To equate my very mild defence of the BBC with such issues seems a bit below the belt. Not to me, I can take it, but trivialising mental illness is something I personally don't engage in. Each to their own of course, your right to free speech is incredibly important. Luckily we have an institution such as the BBC through which we can express these views.
@scottsutherland9004

@MichaelKingsfordGray I've no idea what your views are other than you don't like the BBC so going to have to base it on that. Have you ever listened to Feedback on Radio 4 on a Friday afternoon? Some of the strongest criticism of the BBC you're ever likely to hear right there on the BBC. The BBC news channel is consistently runs segments on problems with the corporation. I agree it has its issues, as do all major institutions, but the concept and I believe intent of the BBC and the vast majority of its employees like positive. Criticisms can only help them improve

The phrase on the BBC where they say "other .... are available" must be a recent thing. For example if you look back at some really old BBC sitcoms, Sainsbury's is mentioned in at least 2 episodes of Dad's Army, usually in reference to Jones' Butchers shop, there's also an episode of Terry & June where June Whitfield says the line "we usually get ours from Sainsburys". I think it's also mentioned in at least one episode of the original Open All Hours. However over on ITV they usually make up names of fictional supermarkets, probably because they are funded by advertising and it could cause a conflict.
