I used the Trentham Tesla charger on my MG4 last week. Due a diversion to drop my soon off in Milton Mowbray, we were down to 10%. After a visit to toilets and a cup of tea, we were on 93% on returning. Cost £20 (before 4pm).The first charger I tried was defunct. The site was the busiest I’ve ever seen it but it had 2/3 vacant chargers available. Some people were having difficulty removing the plug (solution; just depress the button on the charger plug).

Yes if the plug is stuck it’s because the car or charger are ready to pass high power electricity, depress the button or stop charging in your car should unlock. This can happen on any charger and is better than spilling fuel in the fossil days!

Standard range MG5s won't charge on a Tesla supercharger. Facelift models require a firmware update that is classed as an enhancement so is chargeable unless done by dealers as goodwill. The pre facelift long range is subject to a lot of discussion as MG issued a technical note that they need a new EVCC - even though some of the later ones have the same EVCC and base firmware as the facelift models and some MG4s

Just FYI Dave - stopped at the Abington Welcome Break services on the M74. Whilst I was charging at an AppleGreen in my Polestar2, Tesla have shutdown their chargers at Abington as they are installing a load (I counted at least 10 which are still having the core cabling installed) of new v4 chargers adding to the 6 they already have here which have been covered up for the moment which will make 16 available here at Abington, alongside the 8 AppleGreen 175kW Chargers too (and 2 50kW ‘slow’ GridServe chargers)

I tend to only charge at a Tesla charger when out (although mostly charge at home), I find using the app and the chargers to be excellent. I did however very recently use a MER charger (by chance), it was a shared 22Kw charger, but was only 35p and worked out as I was visiting a local attraction for a few hours, enough charge to get home with no inconvenience, not even ICE drivers can claim that!

Love Tesla Superchargers, I'm lucky in that I can use all the ones that are open to all as my charging port ison the same side as Teslas. Open to all is therefore a bit misleading as currretly quite a few are the V3 superchargers which because of the short cable few cars can use without blocking off bays to get the cable to reach.

As a Tesla owner I have absolutely no problem with Tesla opening up V4 chargers. But seeing blocked bays at the V2,3 chargers is a real pain and Tesla shouldn't have opened them up and this will soon be in breach of the UK charging regulations in any case. This bay blocking must frustrate non Tesla EV owners as much as Tesla owners. I've see a Porsche Taycan blocking 3 bays madness. Also worth noting the V2 chargers share the charge with another bay 1a and 1b for instance so you might find you get a lot less charge than you thought you would
@davetakesiton
@davetakesiton Ай бұрын
Yes rough with the smooth unfortunately. Luckily the V2s are less than 15% of the total and all new ones opening now are V4. They are being installed at a faster rate proportionately than the increase in EV sales so I’m hoping this is about the worst it’s going to get. BTW I just filmed a foreign Polestar towing a tiny trailer parking across 3 SWARCO bays while charging rather unhitch the trailer. Takes all sorts

Tesla monitors all cars on a charge and can see the SOC now, the limit set and the charging speed. It knows which cars are nearly ready to leave and which have just arrived. PLUS it knows how many EVs are heading towards it and their SOC. Exactly the same way Amazon can offer next day or same day delivery,; it has what you are about to order on its way to your local depot before you order it.
