Printing a temperature ranks high on the list of things you should do to take your 3D Prints from average to amazing. They don't take long to setup and well worth the effort it takes. This video not only shows how to make a temperature tower but also explains why.

This video was EXTREAMLY helpful, as I just purchased a Mingda Magician Pro 400x400x400, and new to 3D Printing.. my needs are for printing Carbon / Nylon car Parts for my 1937 Pontiac SilverStreak. having a few filaments (will try and keep to the same brand); this test will ensure my Cura settings are as good as it will get per filament type.. the hint about calculations and post GCode was wickedly helpful!

Wow I think your channel is the best on KZfaq! Just finished watching several of your videos. My ender 3 is several years old- it was in storage for some time and initially I upgraded many things on it except the firmware. Updating the firmware is totally out of my wheelhouse! It prints, ok but not too accurately. Mostly printed model airplane parts and stuff that accuracy wasn’t an issue. Thanks for your videos…I think I’ll tweak some of the settings on my old Ender 3 and see if I can make an accurate cube.

Good information, Not to put Curu down But Matter control has the same Temp Tower and you just select it from the library and all is setup and ready to print in just a few clicks, just set your resolution/layer height and print.

Honestly anyone looking for videos on temp towers would be better served learning to build the code themselves so they can understand how it works. It's great background.

Sure! There's a little bit more that you can learn from that tower. The Arc on the left side of the tower, it gives a good indication of how a particular temperature handles overhangs. Also on the left, there is a wall that tapers from front to back provides some feedback on how a particular temperature with walls of various sizes will print. As the wall gets thinner, you might see more stringing. On the right side, there is a circle with a spike in it. Look for stringing in there. The spike also tapers from bottom up. I look to see if the spike is broken. The spike can give you an idea on how well a particular temperature will do fine detail. Besides those things, you still get to see what temperature does the best with bridging. The other towers really only show bridging and stringing. By looking at the one from Thingiverse, I look for the temperature that gives the best bridging, the best overhangs, the least amount of stringing, the best detail and least amount of layer separation. If I have two temperatures that look equally well, I use the lower temperature of the two. Thanks for asking! And Thanks for watching!

I have been binge watching them one after the other 😀 One quick question about this thigiverae tower again - do I need that post processing gcode like you showed in your first tower video? I think it will be helpful for newbies like me to see a dedicated step by step video from beginning to end on this one. Hope you can make one soon. Keep up the great work. Subscribing your channel.

@@ashokmoghe8035 No problem! If you download the temperature tower from Thingiverse, load it into cura like any other file. Then follow the instructions in the video at 9:30 mark. In the dialog box to modify the GCODE, Add the script TempFanTower, set the Starting Temperature to 225 degrees, the Temperature Increment to -5, the Change Layer to 50 and the Change Layer Offset to 7. Great video, great explanation. Thanks. I’ve noticed that Cura now has a specific Temp Tower download. I’m brand new to printing so this is my first attempt. I’m assuming that even though it is a preset download I will still need to set my own G Code parameters.

Question on this please? I have got my temperature set to 220 in the print settings of Cura. I want to print the supplied tower but that temp says 230. My question is do I keep my printing temp at 220 or 230? Thank you!

You have to work the gcode so that you are printing a range of temperatures to determine what temperature works best. But since making this video, I have a newer video that demonstrates a much easier method that takes the guess work out it. sorry I dont understand why youre talking about springing, isnt that tuned with retraction? thanks im struggling with TPU on direct drive KP3s PRO

A few different things can (and do) cause stringing. Incorrect temperature settings is one of them. Determine the right temperature for your printer/filament combo. Once you have that set, do a retraction test. Everybody struggles with TPU. Not a direct drive, but on my Ender 3, when printing 95A TPU, I print at 220 at the hot end, 70 degrees on the bed, I really slow down my speed, to 20. Thanks for watching!

How do you use the Evanphi temp tower model? Do I just download the gcode he has there and print that? or I download the model and somehow set it up with that?

Don't use dowloaded gcode. While the code for the tower itself might work, there is always the chance that other settings in the gcode could cause you problems. But you can download the model and use it. Just use the same steps as shown for setting up the layer/temperature changes as shown for the version using the calibration shapes tower. You might want to Check out the Cura Autotower Generator plugin. It will setup the tower and gcode for you. I have a video for that on my channel. It's much easier to use.

Im pretty new, im using the cura extension and printing flow towers, the flow seems the same all the way up... Not sure why its not changing. Im wondering why im getting the second layer smashing the first layer... It seems ok after the second or third

I'm not sure what you mean by the second layer smashing the first layer? But I'm going to make 2 guesses and hope one of these what you are faced with. Could it be that your Z-Offset is set a little to low and the nozzle is squishing your first layer outward? If this is case increasing the z-offset a little bit could take care of this. Just don't go to high or you'll get no bed adhesion. The second guess would be that your initial layer height is set higher than the rest. It's common to do this. In Cura, I run my initial layer at 0.28 and my standard layer height at 0.20. I'm not sure what printer you are working with, if you have to manually level it of not. If you're manually leveling, you could leave just a little more room between the nozzle and the bed plate. Not a lot, just a little. I hope this helps!

@@pushingplastic7445 sorry yeah it's an Ender 3 max, using glass plate and I can't get it to stick unless it's squishing that filament pretty good. Yeah maybe I'll mess with that initial layer more. Isn't z-offset for auto leveling printers?

@@Jacey2001 The easy fix would be to let a little more distance between the bedplate and nozzle. IF you're leveling the bed with a piece of paper, just try have a little less drag on the paper.

@@pushingplastic7445 I'm using a gap tool, 0.1mm fairly tight. So set initial layer to .28? Adjusting flow doesn't seem to work that much

Sadly, it is not. But I did put up a video on accomplishing the same thing using Curas Auto Towers Generator. It’s pretty much a one step process after you install the free marketplace plugin. Hope this helps!

I was not able to find the extension. I was able to find and add the calibration shapes plugin, but i do not have the TempFanTower extension. I'm using 4.8 because i cannot figure out how to add my Neptune 3 Pro or Neptune X to Cura 5.2. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m looking on Cura 4.1.1 right now. After installing the calibration shapes from the marketplace, restart cura. You should see a pull down menu at the top called “Extensions”. Click on that and select “Part for calibration “. You’ll see a list of parts, select “Add a PLA+ TempTower”. After is appears on your screen, go back to the Extension pull down menu, select “Post Proccessing” and click Modify G-Code. Click the “Add a script” button. This is where you’ll see the TempFan Tower, on the version I’m looking at right now, it’s the 3rd from the bottom. I hope this helps!

I think the tower.. should be printed... seperate and not as a tower.... what If the 1st 2 layers are crappt.... then anyything after... will also be crap....! Thank you for this vid though! Have yet to print mine! Cant find tpu temp tower in g code part....! 7:41! EXACTLY what I was looking for, THANK YOUU! But there are now auto towers... just slice and print!
