I use 3mm hardboard for the templates, easy to cut with a straight edge and Stanley knife and minimal sanding 👍

I’ve done with hardboard before but I’ve prepped it, so it a wet weather job scribing, cutting and rubbing the rubbers so used ply so it a bit more harder wearing. Although we’ll be under a gazebo more than likely so yeah probably easier 😂😂
