Temple Of The Dog was just a one off band that did one album. It was meant as a tribute to Andrew Wood, who was a singer in a few different influential bands in the early Seattle scene, mainly Mother Love Bone, that died from a drug overdose, and was Chris Cornell's roommate and best friend at the time of his death. Chris wrote a few songs in tribute to his friend, and wanted to put together a group, on the side from Soundgarden, to record them, and approached Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Mother Love Bone, who were in the middle of putting together their new band, Pearl Jam, and already had hooked up with Mike McCready (Pearl Jam). Matt Cameron, was the drummer from Soundgarden at the time, and later after they broke up, he then became the drummer of Pearl Jam. So, Temple Of The Dog, was basically just Pearl Jam lead by Chris Cornell. Eddie Vedder wasn't really part of the group. He had just come to Seattle from California to be a part of Pearl Jam. So, he just happened to be there, and when they were working on this song, Chris was going for a sound, but having trouble finding it, and Eddie jumped in to make some suggestions, and Chris realized that what he needed was Eddie, but he's only on this one song. Eddie Vedder has talked about how when he first came to Seattle, he didn't really no anyone, outside of Pearl Jam at least, and Chris befriended him, and invited him to hang out, made him feel like part of the scene, and was there when he had nobody and needed someone.

It's far too uncommon that a bunch of guys who were supposed to be rivals would get together for the remembrance of a fellow musician who missed out on fame. They did so at the height of the movement without egos. She should also check out another Grunge supergroup, Mad Season, that does feature Layne Staley and the great Mark Lanegan as vocalist.

I'm clean every day since 1996...SO FAR...but Mad Season's *river of deceit* will punch my psyche repeatedly wherever I hear it...and it it's one, I listen and sing along EVERY TIME. But it takes me right back to that time on the cusp of leaving the life, versus the last draws of remaining there until oblivion... That moment frozen forever FOR ME, in MY LIFE, is still visceral & nauseating & exciting & near-suicidal every time I sing it out. But, to this point, I've never bought about ticket to ride the Dragon. I would be hell beyond all suffering, and a heaven that I won't wake up from. Period. So, to paraphrase another contemporary, Layne Staley, "I Stsaaaaaaaaaay away!"

This was basically Chris Cornell's project that he enlisted members of Mother Love Bone to play on. Andy Wood was the singer of MLB and Chris's friend who died of a heroin overdose. A lot of the songs were inspired by him. Of course the rest of MLB would go on to form Pearl Jam.

All of these guys were friends blowing up the Seattle bar and club scene in the late 80s before hitting it big in the early 90s, well, except Eddie, who was just arriving while this album was being made. It was a tribute to Andrew Wood, vocalist of Mother Love bone, and Chris Cornell's good friend and roommate who passed away early in 1990. This supergroup brought together Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard who were part of Mother Love Bone (and right after this, Pearl Jam) Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden, and Mike McCready, who along with Eddie Vedder, would complete Pearl Jam's lineup for their debut album. This is the only song that Eddie contributed vocals on as (so the story goes) Chris was struggling with Hunger Strike as Eddie was just feeling his way around after just arriving in Seattle to form Pearl Jam with the others. Just like that, this song turned into the most amazing duet with two male leads that I've ever heard. If you want to try another supergroup from the same era, you need to listen to Mad Season. In '94, this brought together Mike McCready again, with the bassist from the Walkabouts, the drummer from the Screaming Trees, and... Layne Staley. They released the LP "Above" in 1995. The entire album is great, but if you want specific tracks, "Wake Up" "River of Deceit" "I'm Above" and "I Don't Know Anything" are all fantastic, but that's almost half of the entire album, haha.

He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today! This album was the first introduction of Eddie Vedder. Pearl Jam's debut wouldn't come out until a few months later. Soundgarden had been the Alpha dog of the Seattle scene and was working on their second album when this came out - and everyone took notice of Vedder, who had just moved to Seattle to form what would be Pearl Jam.

It’s not Lane Stanley. It’s Layne Thomas Staley, that was the singer from Alice In Chains.

I think this was filmed on Bainbridge Island, in the mid 90s, when*t to see a band called Jamblia, who were Cris*s sisters and they did a version of this with Cris in Bellingham Wa, great show.
