Music Teacher Reacts: TINA S - Through The Fire And Flames
This one was requested and the team brought it to me. Tina S is a fantastic guitar player and has a lot of internet fame. Seems only fitting to finally dissect and analyze what she's doing technique wise!
Thanks for the support and I hope you love the video.

Herman mentioned it in his reaction of this a while ago, but the reason she's blending his and Sam's parts are because of the particular tracks that she's working with. There's a drum track, there's a keyboard track, a vocal track, a bass track and a guitar track. Yes, one guitar track, despite there being two guitarists. So there's no isolation of either Herman or Sam to be able to blank out in order for her guitar to fill in. They can remove all or none of the guitars, and for the purposes of a guitar cover... yea.

This is also why there are some added harmonics to her output to help emulate the 2 guitars.

Herman Li himself did a KZfaq review of Tina S playing this song and stated "this is the best cover of this song hes ever heard and should he not want to play this song anymore Tina S would be his go to person to play it" watching his review was really cool to see he actually had alot of emotions watching her play this was very cool to watch. My rant is over lol 😆 much love

She also played it like this, since it's normally two guitars and she is doing the work all by herself. She basically did her own arrangement to make it fit properly.

Herman Li said that Tina's cover was probably the best he had heard. People tend to forget that she's covering the guitar tracks of 2 guitar players so she had to put her own spin on it. Herman said that in the stam tracks, the guitars couldn't be separated because they were done together at the same time. I think Tina nailed it.

DJ last night I recommend saving that for last. I changed my mind. You should definitely do the Beethoven next. Lots to consider in that one. Like she's only 17 and had only been playing electric four years. Even the classical stance with the guitar on her left leg is worth noting. You're gonna have a LOT to unpack.

I just, I mean, I I yi Tina S so amazing a person, I can imagine the discipline she went through training learning studying guitar. She a pleasure to watch and hear her play, I get, I really get emotional. She is the epitome of cool and beautiful.. and professional master one to listen to and say these words without shame. I feel blessed to have seen and hear her, even if only via youtube. I think I would be humbled to my shame if ever in her presence. For I have not committed myself to a art as on the scale she Tina S has. I could imagine her joy of learning as well as her trying circumstances that life throws at everyone, yet she persevered to always got to her guitar lesson, go to her room to pick up her guitar her instrument of choice and learn more even on cold nights of pain life's cold circumstances had each of us at different times through each of our years of life, she (as others like her) chose to not stop, not give in or give up but chose to practice and hone her skills mastering each level through each year of her life. I imagine the guitar can be a great escape from trying times as well as a great unity for social occasions. I don't know, I played a little drums before, and one time a real band was visiting. I was just learning drums, practice, and to my amazement the visiting band walked into where I was practicing. I started to stand up to yield the drums to their drummer. One of the band members said, hey what are you doing, stick around, stay right there, play with us. I said I am new and just learning. He said something like O' thats nice. As we spoke these words the band members were gearing up guitars and Keyboards. I was so intimidated, yet felt invited and friendship. I sat back down thinking I gotta do more than my fall into 9ne two three beats, I have to pushing some rolls (see, I never even learned the proper terminology pfft sry) So I sat back down, he told just jump in, and I did, I was new to the songs they chose, but I was able to hear a few cords correctly and started playing, before I knew it, I'm am not bragging on trying to say I can play drums, but something awesome happened, I'll remember it the rest of my life, I really joined in, I felt the music, I went somewhere special like never before, I got a happy nod from the guitarist who told me to stick around and man a live it was more than great, but yes, my thinking actually interrupted me, I starting realizing where I was while playing and enjoying being in the music, my thinking started telling me to not mess up, keep that kick going keep those sticks in this amazing groove I was in, my thoughts pulled me out a couple times, but the band never missed their place and kept playing, and so I quickly put myself back in that special spot of music flowing. All honesty, I never felt that before in any lessons that the locals gave me. So yes, I have amazing respect for Tina S and hope only health happiness and GOD SPEED to her and her Family (her friends too). She is shooting for the distance of life long musician. Okay, sry for so much here, going now. Great video teacher, loved hearing you break down for us viewers what Tina was doing to deliver the amazing sounds on the guitar

I know nothing about music or guitar playing but I appreciated it, too. I watched a couple of jaw-on-the-floor general reactions, an analysis by a classical music expert of her Beethoven performance, and now this one by an electric guitar expert. It was probably the most insightful and interesting one. You explained some things that I had literally never heard of and gave me an indirect peek into the world of electric guitar that I didn't realize was quite so complex.

For a close look at pure insane skill, check out Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement. For pure feel/soul check out her Stevie Vai For the Love of God cover. Tina was classically trained from age 6 until age 13 when she switched to electric and began studying under French jazz rock guitarist Renaud Louis-Servais. Her last post was the Beethoven performance at age 17. Oh, beware of a troll account claiming her demise with "In Memoriam" posts. It's a fake and sick.

The "controversy" is that a bunch of middle aged men (ok, I'm guessing a bit there...) can't fathom a girl is able to play this and believe it is sped up. Herman Li said 'This might actually be the best cover I've seen'. I like that she plays partly Herman's parts and partly Sam's parts. It makes it more interesting to me. As a lot of people have suggested, check out her Moonlight Sonata. Makes this look like a warm up exercise.

Tina S is amazing, I love her. Vigier is a french brand well know for it's 90/10 system which consists of a wood neck reinforced with a carbon slab. A normal wood neck is too flexible, resulting in the strings losing energy when played, reducing both the sustain and impact of the note. The 90/10 system alleviates this problem. Additionally, the carbon prevents the neck from deforming due to climate or a change in string gauge or tuning. Normally, this is why a truss rod is used, but with the 90/10, there is no need for one.

Somebody below (or above) noted that Herman Li did a reaction to Tina S and about the only criticism he could find was that Tina should have had a fan blowing her hair! He was 100 % appreciative. And at least at the time of that review thought it was the probably the best cover of the song, and noted that if he needed someone to step in for him, he knew whom he could call! It's really a fun review by Herman Li. Her cover of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" is really good, but I prefer Tina's Cover of Steve Vai's "For the Love of God" over that, just for the beauty of that song. [ Of course, the Moonlight Sonata on piano would place above "For the Love of God" ... for me! ]

Vigier also make bass guitars, iirc Deep Purple's bassist plays one (ever since the company's owner demo'd it for him, by standing on the neck, it bending until the strings got all floppy, and it still played in key.

i hate people who say "it looks sped up" or "she has no emotion" no its not sped up and you can see with her head movements she is into it.. also one other point if you think this is good you should check out moonlight sonata and for the love of god.
@cheffrey19
@cheffrey19 2 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree, and admit I could very well could be wrong. It seems sped up by like 10-15% I'm not basing it on her hands, but her head has some jerky/snap when she moves. Also in the shoulders it looks like there are some unnatural movements. I've done quite a bit of video editing and the video just looks sped up a bit. All of that being said, it's still incredible, even at 85-90% speed, just insane at how easy she makes it look. The fact she doesn't look at the fret board during some of the most intense parts of the solo is nuts. Just my thoughts on the video. Cheers.

@@0ParisFrance Typically I've found that when my cameras aren't able to pick up the speed of something, you get severe motion blur, and not the jerky movements in the rest of the limbs. I suppose it's possible that they sped up they cranked the filming to get limit motion blur then sped it up to normal speed in post. Again, I could be wrong, I'm just a casual editor myself. Either way, I still enjoy the video.

I believe Vigier guitars are French. The ones she plays the Excalibur Customs I've seen run from 3 grand to 6 grand depending.. I also believe they are like a special order type deal like real ESP ( not LTD). I think to get one new you have to actually contact them and do a Custom order etc. She has or had quite a few back when she was doing these YT video's.

I think she is using that fingering for the chords because she started as a classical player where you learn to use a different finger for each note of the chord (when possible) instead of barring with one finger. This is much more conducive to finger picking different note by lifting fingers.

I believe Tina was 15 years old when she posted this song. To someone like myself who is a guitar player wannabe, Tina is a Goddess; however, I enjoyed your analysis given that you know what you are talking about. Vigier is a French guitar manufacturer and, I heard (so take it with a grain of salt) that they supply Tina with her guitars. She is French by nationality and Herman Li, when he reviewed this same video, indicated he had tried to reach her to invite her to come to one of Dragonforce's gigs to hang out or sit in (he repeated the invitation in his reaction video). Tina, after she posted her incredible Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata - 3rd Movement video (done when she was 17 years old), disappeared from KZfaq (and everywhere else, it seems) giving rise to all sorts of rumours both silly and, in a few cases more probable. Couldn't tell you if any were true but the most likely is that she went to university and took a break from KZfaq and social media. I pray that is true as I'd love to see all she can do. You really must watch her Beethoven - Moolight Sonata video as it is mindblowing and has been reviewed by many none of which were not blown away, guitar or not. The video is: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZyida5hp9ewYqs.html I will be very interested to see what you have to say about it.

@@0ParisFrance Oh, I don't think she stopped playing guitar; however, she apparently has taken time away from KZfaq (social media, in general) presumably to concentrate on her studies. Going by her level of expertise on the guitar, she appears to throw herself into whatever she is doing completely. I only would wish her the best in all she does; however, I still miss her videos and wish I had some idea of how she is doing. Strange of me perhaps; however, it is hard not to appreciate her talent and want to see more of it displayed and, at the same time, show concern by her sudden departure with no apparent explanation (even though it is completely none of my business). Does that satisfy your curiosity?
