This video shows how to temporarily fix a broken torsion spring. This works only if the spring broke towards the end of the spring. Please comment if you have any questions!

Reminder is temporary fix, with shortened torsion spring, ir puts more strain on the spring while coiling

@@diogocabritaster1 yessir. TEMPORARY! This worked until I put the new spring on. It's a very busy door, so they needed to be able to open it in the morning and close it in the afternoon.

I carry spring blocks on truck .. always

@@skidmoro9642 me too. The cone was to close to the end to use them properly.

Good stuff. Have you done this on a spring larger than 2”? I’ve tried on a 3 3/8” but couldn’t grip the spring enough with what I had to get the plug on without pulling it off the shaft.

Thanks! The spring in the video is a 2 5/8. Sometimes you gotta smack that plug a little bit to get it to start. I know what you mean though. It can be challenging. Sometimes. I've had to take breaks before to collect my composure. They can get you angry sometimes. Almost through a hammer across the shop getting mad lol.

Easier than clamping?

It's about the same. I use blocks when the spring is broken more towards the middle. Spring blocks are easy to install. It's the first one that's a bit tough to get on. After that the second block slips right in. A spring block wouldn't work in this particular scenario. The spring broke right where the cone ends. So it made more sense to cut off the small chunk of spring and spin the cone back on. In and out, pay up sucka lol! 👊🏼

@@garagedoorgenius do you have a video on how do you use the blocks? Also can the wire size be measured by counting 10 and 20 coils while the spring is still wound up tight? Or can that method be used only on a broken, relaxed spring?
@garagedoorgenius9 күн бұрын
@@percyfaith11 no I don't have a video, YET! I will make one though. Yes, you can still measure the coils relaxed or wound up. Either way you'll get the same size.
