I find it interesting, that nobody mentioned the exhaus, also 454ss does not notice the high pressure of the exhaust. I've did several dozen hours of testing with 5x5 modular engines, where I came to similar conclusions as in the video, related to air and fuel. However the same applies to the exhaust port as well! Now, every time I make an engine, I add pumps to air, fuel and exhaust. The size and power of said pumps should be in relation to the engine size too. Also note, that both the medium and big engines have two exhaust port -> they create crazy amount of exhaust (which is even more true for modular 3x3, 5x5), which is better pumped out quickly! Just my experience based on a lot of testing. Hope this helps.

I mentioned the exhaust in the last video's comments. If the exhaust can't get out the air and fuel can't get in.

Yes, my torpedo boat had the same problem, when I accidentally turned on infinite fuel it was way faster than usual and the exhaust pipe stopped emitting smoke

Also, very interesting. It’s a good thing. I always gave my engines plenty of air but very good to know thanks 454ss

Wouldn't it be nice if we could tint the windows of our creations? Like how the F22 raptor has it with its iconic bronze gold color.

Yeah, to echo @sandorvigh4033, the 2 Atm exhaust pressure seems pretty suspicious.

It is the air pressure. Most of you start the engine and then go down to the engine room. But if you start the engines and pumps from the engine room you will see how the air pressure drops. I haven't been able to fix it, but I have seen the air pressure drop quickly to less than 1 ATM and then it will start to fluctuate. But it is something related to the air or the atmosphere...

I probably should have mentioned that I tuned my boats to not run at 100% throttle (controlled via PID). They typically sit at 70% throttle when I set them to "full power". That's why 0.7 atm of pressure for the air intake was enough in my case. But yes, I agree, this issue is very frustrating, especially since this just suddenly popped up with a minor patch. Also I wonder whether it is intentional that the large engines, in my case, need 840 l/sec of air while they use 6.7 l/sec of fuel. That would roughly be an AFR of 125. That does not seem right. 😅

One of the things I've been doing with engines here lately, and idk why the prefab engines suck so much air compared to the modular engines, but I've putting air tanks in the vessels, to sort of super charge the engine.

Input port count isn't going to fix pipeline pressure throughput. Your engines consume a specific amount of air for their given power setting, and the reworked gas system moves air via pressure. A naturally-aspirated engine creates a void as it runs and gets fed air via the one ATM pressure pushing air into the ports. This ultimately limits the flow rate to the difference between engine void, and the external atmosphere. You can stack fifty inlets on your craft, it all consolidates down to the one pipe going into the engine, being pushed by one ATM pressure. You did try pumps giving air to each engine, but the mistake you made was that you didn't recognize the bottleneck when you tried stacking ports. It's not the PORTS, it's the PUMPS. I've been making a micro-tanker that fits in the starting island boat dock, and one of the things I noted while experimenting with the gas-pressure system is that pumps push a fixed amount of gas through at a time, at least, while being fed with one ATM. While this will pressurize your engine line initially, it ultimately comes back to a throughput bottleneck. No amount of one ATM air intake ports allowing 400 L/S passthrough will do you any good if your supercharger pump only lets 200 l/s through per tick. When I built my micro-tanker, I made a 'pressure tank' out of the inner and outer hull areas and placed pumps in the four corners of it, each with its own dedicated pipe to the vehicle exterior for intake. I started with two, but quickly learned that the more independent pumps I used, the faster the hull space pressurized. Here's a suggestion to try experimenting with. 1: Create a large 'pressure tank' onboard ship. Don't use one of the pre-built gas tanks. You're going to need multiple input ports. Make the tank just big enough to fit all required connections. Otherwise pressurizing it will take half an hour. 2: Build a 'pump-array' counting at least two pumps per engine or more. Two should be good, three might be needed. Feed these pumps individual air in, and individual air lines into the 'pressure tank'. 3: Reroute your engine inlets to the pressure tank. The engines should be fed pressurized air from this tank. 4: Power up the boat and let the tank build pressure. Theoretically, your engines should, after a few seconds or minutes, be getting force-fed 60 ATMs of air pressure at all times, and not be air-starved so long as the throughput of the pumps exceeds the consumption of the engines.

There was a lot of changes at once. Did/can you a test with base line >only< changed by increaseing the number of exhaust ports to 3+ per engine.

If the air pressure is lower, then the mass of air being put into the engine will be lower even if the flow rate is the same. The volume flow rate will probably be determined solely by RPM given that each piston intakes it's own volume of air no matter the pressure. The devs seem to do things like this quite often, for example when the modular engines were overpowered they "fixed" it by making the modular engines nearly impossible to cool. Only needing 1 fluid port was a bit overpowered, but this solution is annoying. Now we just need 2x1 windows

And the solution is... One way valve on air line just before air manifold. Just try it (tested with 3x3 modular)

I had a clutch that was at zero coming from a reactor, and going to some stabalizers. IT SHOW 100 RPS, put a flywheel on it and it got fixed

Thats why i might not have seen it myself, been using modular engines with individual air intakes for each cylinder and turbochragers.

all the Port have the same performance, only difference is their shape, larger ports were released with Hydro jets to have a larger contact area to pickup water. (Adria) I found a fix for you system by adding 2 1x1 flywheels in between gear box and split to 2 prop. I used your clutch logic to control the clutches for the flywheels. you engines are mainly over-revving from not enough load and dropping it rapidly. and your choking the control engine #3, the left exhaust port isnt event connected to a port. each Exhaust port on large engines needs its own pipe line. air was not the issue.

Hellos had same thing done some testing and found these things (one stoped it):- Using dedicated air ram funnel rather then fluid port stopped engine fluctuating Medium Engine has two exhaust ran two exhaust lines with two fluid exhausts Didn’t use multi fluid port Added air in to fuel tank Hope these may help

Maybe the dev had put a static air "sucking" force on the engines, and they didn't update it when they added the pressure thing? So now the engines don't even suck hard enough themselves/chokes themselves? How long does it take if you add pressurized air tanks? What about air filters instead of ports? Gas filters, and one way valves? (In case the engine pushes out every x frames?) And isn't your exhaust at two atm? What about emptying that faster?

As far as I can see on my test bench, rps jerking is observed only on 1x1 engines. on 3x3 engines rps is stable.

Just another example of Geometa changing things and not telling anyone. I can't decide if it's incompetence or trolling at this point. Stormworks has so much potential and is one of my most played games hour-wise, but I just can't do it any more. I'm wore out having to constantly fix creations.

How about pressurizing a gas tank repurposed for air?
