The first time I heard the phrase "the 5th Beatle", I thought it was referring to George Martin. Writing and directing the orchestral parts of the music was a hell of a contribution. "Yesterday" and "Elenor Rigby" could not have been pulled off by the Teddy Boys of the day.

@@AnyoneCanSee That's unfair. They did invite him to produce the album. He was their only choice to do so. George Martin politely declined their invitation due to his hearing loss. He did manage to produce the Beatles Anthology but had a lot of help from his son. Don't you think Jeff Lynne deserves a lot of credit for stepping in?? He did an amazing job speeding up and fixing John's raw demo tapes. Besides all 4 are credited as producers -Jeff, Paul, George and Ringo.

Chas Newby was my maths teacher. He didnt say it often, but he did say he'd played with/been part of the Beatles. Naturally no-one believed him. But on the very last day of his long tenure at the school he took a few of us to one side and showed us a Beatles photo anthology book, pointing to the very picture you used here in this vid. He also leant me a Beatles guitar tab book! Hope he is still rockin, he rode a motorbike and was a super chill guy.

@@kjthekunoichi "sAY whAt" and three smileys doesn't change the truth. It was the real Fab four with Lennon, McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Then when Paul was replaced late 1966 with William as an already set up affair, "Billy Shears" became their new bandleader. Beatles with "second McCartney" were a completely different band with a fake Paul. I do not care how people react to what i write, truth is truth regardless if you like it or not. Change a bandmember=not the same band anymore. The different thing about Beatles way of doing it was to cover up Pauls death and pretend he was still with them. And "Sir Paul" (William) is still alive while McCartney, Lennon and Harrison are dead. Fair world...? When Ringo dies the Fab four are over for good.

To be a fifth Beatle or not be a fifth Beatle! That. Is the question. In order to be a fifth Beatle, one had to have been a musician that played with The Group, either live or in the studio. Through elimination this leaves. Stu Sutcliff, Jimmy Nichols and Pete Best. Jimmie and Stu played about a handful of gigs with them. Pete Best played drums for The Beatles...as a Beatle at more live shows than Ringo did. Pete Best was The Fifth Beatle - case closed!

There’s early 1960s images of Pete Best at a gig in Liverpool out front as lead singer of The Beatles with Paul on drums and George playing Paul’s left handed bass upside down... Pete’s popularity in their hometown coupled with the fact that his mother, Mona Best, pushed hard for her son’s advancement to stardom is pretty much dismissed, ignored or forgotten...in another set of circumstances, they would have ended up as Pete’s backing backing band and it all goes to prove that they were going nowhere, man... without Ringo

Hank Wedel Music Have to agree with this option. Best was the “Star of the show” back then, the one the girls swooned over. In fact, the first publicity photos of the band had Best front and center and on some he was the only one pictured on the photo due to his looks. You have to also believe this did cause some jealousy within the group and maybe why they didn’t fight so hard to keep him on board.

Rubbish. As popular as Pete was, he never exploited it, and he would've remained a humble drummer for his bandmates had he not been betrayed by them and kicked off The Beatles' launchpad to stardom minutes before takeoff. Sure, Pete would've continued to be the most popular Beatle by far, and the band's heartthrob, but with the emerging songwriting genius of Lennon and McCartney, they would *never* have been relegated to being Pete's backup band.

Interesting, thank you. There were lots of session musicians that worked with the Beatles, of course, many of whom only got paid a few pounds union rate for work on records that made millions for the Fab Four. Many other musicians worked with the Beatles after they split, notably Elton John, who John Lennon liked very much. A personal favourite were the artists George worked with as 'The Travelling Wilberries', Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.

I don't think any of these musicians (with the exception of Pete and Stu) could really be considered "Beatles" as they were never actual members of the band called The Beatles. Pete Shotton was in the Quarrymen, Andy White was a session drummer, Eric Clapton & Billy Preston were guest musicians, and Jimmy Nichol was a replacement drummer for a part of one tour.
@instantkarma8777

Exactly!! And as far as the Quarrymen went, why did he only mention Shotton?? Apart from Paul and George and Stu coming in later the original Quarrymen were John, Pete Shotton, Eric Griffiths, Rod Davis, Colin Hanton, and Len Garry. And they left before the Beatles lineup cam to fruition.

Billy Preston would have been a fine addition to The Beatles... except that they were tearing themselves apart at the time he was contributing his considerable keyboard talents to some of their performances... 'Much of the listening public didn't know about the internal dramatics and tensions within the group... but as the occasional keyboardist, I'm sure Billy (R.I.P.) was more than a little bit aware of it...

Well, John also said that the "Abbey Road" Side 2 medley (dubbed "the long one") was, in his words, "pure junk" ... ... I'd like to see a video on the various oddities on the Beatles songs. . For instance, John saying "shoot me" in "Come Together" and someone saying "Eh Oh~" at the beginning of "while my guitar gently weeps". One I've never heard is the odd transition in "I am the Walrus." that happens about two minutes in, just before "Sitting in my English Garden>>>', The edit in Strawberry Fields is so well known and talked about but there are many other odd transitions and chatter that made it on to records that I'd like to find out more about.

Pete got a lot of money from Anthology - released in 1995 because he was the drummer on several songs, though apparently it took a while for him to get the money. The exact amount isn't known, but everything I've read said it was in the millions, and an interview I saw with Pete Best after that seemed to also indicate it was a lot of money, and he felt it made up for everything he went through.

A few semi-forgotten "other" members of legendary bands that I can think of: The Rolling Stones: Ian Stewart (piano). Was removed from the band by their manager Andrew Loog Oldham, but became road manager and continued to play on the band's recordings. The Kinks: Mick Grace (guitar). Replaced Ray Davies on some dates of a tour in 1966 when Davies was suffering from a nervous breakdown. Dave sang lead during that tour. The Who: Doug Sandom (drums). Was kicked out for being too old. Keith Moon replaced him. The Yardbirds: Anthony "Top" Topham (lead guitar). Was replaced by Eric Clapton, who was replaced by Jeff Beck and so on. The Police: Henry Padovani (vocals, guitar). The Police made one single as a four piece before Padovani was given the flick. The Jam: Steve Brooks (lead guitar). Brooks couldn't get on with Bruce Foxton (who was playing rhythm guitar with Paul Weller on bass and vocals), so when he left they did a bit of re-shuffling. The Doors: Jim and Rick Manczarek (guitar and harmonica respectively). They thought Jim Morrison was too weird. AC/DC: Dave Evans (vocals) was replaced by Bon Scott. They also went through several bassists and drummers in the early days too. Nirvana: Jason Everman (guitar) and Chad Channing (drums). Everman paid for the recording of the band's first album 'Bleach' but left before it was even recorded. Channing played on that album but was soon replaced by Dave Grohl. Deep Purple: Nick Simper (bass) was replaced by Roger Glover. Rod Evans made three albums as vocalist as well, but Ian Gillan overshadowed his legacy. The Seekers: Ken Lay (vocals). Left the band to get married. Judith Durham replaced him. Rest is history..

Not bringing up the fact that "Sir Paul" is really a WILLIAM and only responsible for the 1967-1970 albums is very DISHONEST. He did not grow up in Liverpool, he did not tour with Fab four. He doesn't share a history with them other than pretending to be "Paul McCartney" ever since late 1966 when he replaced JPM. You normies have a very hard time accepting this. Heather Mills were right, people could never ever handle the truth, because it would make them D E V E S T A T E D.

Eh, not really. It's a movie about the romance of Stuart and Astrid Kirchherr. The Beatles were just a context for that story, and John was the only Beatle who was given a significant character. It was also not that factually accurate. Particularly the angle where John is secretly in love with Astrid too. That didn't happen.

3:40 you got this bit wrong. Pete played the ‘test’ session, after which George Martin (in consultation with his engineers) recommended hiring a session drummer - Andy White. By the time Ringo had joined the band in August 62 and accompanied them for their next session in September, Andy was already locked in....and apart from never having heard of Ringo, George was surprised to see the band’s lineup had changed.

I would like to know the history behind the compilation record known as Love Songs. Now that the Beatle’s songs are in the digital era, why has the compilation Love Songs not been offered for streaming? Were any of the Beatles involved in the selection of the songs on that collection? Or was this just a record company idea to make extra money and band members were not involved? Who’s idea was it to start with?

AFAIK, it was done by George Martin, with help from his son Giles, working with Cirque du Soleil. Love was the soundtrack for Cirque du Soleil at that time.
