I agree. It is also great for professionals too. I used Photoshop and Lightroom for years as a professional and having used Affinity Photo for the last couple of years I can say that I have never needed to go back.

@@ScottWilliamsPhotography Just switched to Affinity Photo after 13 years of Adobe! So far it seems to do everything I could ever want or need.

Great to hear. Paired up with something like Capture One or On1 Photo most photographers are sorted.

You are welcome Lance. I switched from Photoshop to Affinity Photo a couple of years ago. I now use Affinity Photo for all of my advanced editing. I do not miss Photoshop at all. I have tried every image editor out there, including the free ones. Affinity Photo beats them all. Especially for the price.

Hi Leroy. Welcome aboard. I can understand the confusion. When using a pixel layer as a mask it uses the alpha channel of each pixel to determine the mask information. So all colours, even black will be opaque as the alpha channel for the colour is positive and so the pixel reveals. You must either use the eraser tool or paint with a colour with it's opacity lowered to conceal. The opacity is determined by it's alpha. When creating a normal mask layer using the mask icon at the bottom right of the control panel then it creates a layer that has only alpha information. In this case when you paint it uses the brightness of the painting colour to determine the alpha value. Allowing you to paint with varying levels of opacity just by selecting a new colour or greyscale brush. I hope this helps. I really should create a video about this.
