So when the HBO shorts came out in ‘94 (I think there’s 6 episodes) I watched them so much that these songs are BURNED into my memory forever. Back then, they’d gotten a springboard from Mr. Show (another show on HBO) and if you saw those episodes you were kind of in on the ‘gag’. They were real musicians, real comedians and real actors creating a fictional and crazy account of their history: two slackers trying to make it big as a rock band all the whole believing that they are TRULY the best band in the world and everyone else just doesn’t realize it yet. Then JB started making movies but The D never broke up and the music from those shorts was good enough for them to make albums, to tour and to make the story into a movie. ‘The Pick of Destiny’ is a movie version of those first HBO shorts and it’s great but if you watch those 6 original 30-minute shorts, you’ll totally understand what they’re about. Ive seen them live twice and they’re better than most ‘real bands’. If you get the chance, I highly recommend catching a show. 👍🏻

Its hard to find the original version of the video, which was animated by the guy who did Ren and Stimpy

It's funny the fact that Dave Grohl formed the Foo Fighters overshadows the fact that he drummed for Nirvana. Freakin' Nirvana, man!

I'm soooo pleased you're reacting to this beauty 😁

I always figured this song was a Tribute to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band. It's a bit too on-the-nose to feel otherwise.

Didn’t know this was new I think I was trying to find a song and stumbled upon you. As a 22 year old yet who knows more than the average one my age I’d say You are one of the only ppl I’ll watch react to stuff. You’re not like these super young people who don’t know anything and not annoying! Keep it up mane

Put in my order for that t-shirt right now. I got the sweatshirt about a month ago and it is very comfortable in the Boston winter. Looking forward to showing off the tee in the spring. I got red with black letters so everyone can see. Thank you for all you do, Brother Jamel!

Bro most people don’t know this bands roots are from their HBO tv series. All of the original songs make sense in context of the episodes. Check out the show, it’s gold

Tribute is a high budget version of their earlier work, the tenacious D television show, which is too hilarious and must be checked out. It's the perfect place to start with tenacious d, and then go through their 4 albums and the movie. It's not actually a huge amount of content, and can easily all be watched and listened to in a single day.

This was a follow up release after the movie The Pick of Destiny, if you seen the movie you know they forgot the greatest song in the world at the end. The devil was Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters.

Fun fact,if you listen to the actual Album, there is a skit that comes on just before this track, where Jack Black, makes this little twang on his guitar, and he calls it a song. That little twang, is the greatest song in the world.

Anyone else notice that the road backdrop was a nod to Judas Priests "Head out to the Highway" it is the same one they used for that video. Great reaction. Now go watch the pick of destiny movie.

Now you gotta do Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly" where they pay back the favor to Dave Grohl

I delivered to Jack Black once a few years ago and he brought the energy then too...I don’t think he ever turns it off. It was a like a personal performance just for me. He also tipped well. 🤙🏼

I know you love you some tenacious D, and I know how you've got some Dio under your belt, so I wanted to let you know that there was a dio tribute album where tenacious D sings "last in line" The entire album has some great covers. Peace, and love man.

These guys had a show before the album. It usually had them engaging in some sort of misadventure and then ending up at a local open mic night. This particular song had the demon being played by their “neighbor” at the apartments, and he couldn’t stand the noise from their rehearsals...he was a writer...he couldn’t write. The tunes are great by themselves, but that show was on a level all its own.

Jack Black (and Tenacious D) got their start on an HBO late night sketch show in the 90s called Mr. Show with Bob & David (David Cross, Arrested Development & Bob Odenkirk, Breaking Bad). Check out the sketch “The Joke, the Musical” for a seriously absurd (and inappropriate) time.

I saw Tenacious D play in a club on Sunset Strip years ago before they broke big and just about fell out of my chair and how great they were. Their debut album is just so great. Definitely check out Wonderboy from that/this album.
