One major let down at this price is not water proof zips and liners. Other competitors now offer this as standard

Ordering this bag tomorrow for my trip to the Swiss Alps next week. I am not happy about the lack of trolley strap - I feel this is an extreme oversight on an otherwise terrific, handsome bag. I'm confident it will work exceptionally well in the field, but we'll see how it handles the "travel" aspect of it. Trolley straps make life awesome when I commute.

@@peterwaisnor2241 thank you for the response. Like I said, I'm loving the design and function of this bag and look forward to getting it. I understand that it's a backpack, but a trolley strap can help some (me personally) when traveling with full kit (lights, luggage, roller bag and stands) I like to shift around gear. Usually wearing the Hybrid 21 on my back and my backpack atop one of my two rollers until they're checked. ;-)

Is this backpack also useable for other stuff in the main compartment? My Camera equipment is not the biggest but I also want to pack some clothing, food and other accessories into it. Are the zippers waterproof?
@TenbaBags
@TenbaBags 3 жыл бұрын
You may arrange the dividers however you wish, and place what you need in the compartment you have created. The zippers will resist rainwater and splashes, but not hold back water if submerged.

As a current owner of the first generation Shootout 20L, I am considering switching to the Axis 24L because of the top access option which is very useful for the way I shoot. However I can't help but wonder why several features were not offered on the Axis borrowed from the Shootout series which would have made for a more complete package such as a more durable material on the bottom of the backpack, readily accessible rain cover, a velcro suitcase strap, and one or two side pockets rather than the option of attaching pockets via the molle attachments. While adding some of these features would inevitably add weight, I think the may have really made it a more flexible platform.
@peterwaisnor2241
@peterwaisnor2241 3 жыл бұрын
These are some good questions. The short answer is that a bag that has *all* the features wrapped into one will be very expensive and very heavy. Clips, zippers and webbing have little weight by themselves, but together they quickly add up to pounds (or kilos). More specific to your comments, the Axis pack is basically made out a material similar to what we put on the bottom of the Shootout pack, so it is very durable. The top access of Axis is unique (shared by Solstice Backpacks as well), so that is a differentiator. All Tenba backpacks, with the exception of the Fulton series, come with rain covers. The trolly strap was left off Axis because it did not work with the molded harness we designed, but the MOLLE straps on the front of the Axis pack work perfectly as trolley straps. And the Axis pack still has one side pocket. Hope that helps clarify a little. Peter Tenba

@@peterwaisnor2241 Thanks so much for your reply and insights Peter. I've enjoyed your videos and Tenba's products over the years. They've supported me through years of travel and I appreciate the skill of the designers and fabricators. I realize it's tough/challenging to design a product that meets everyone's demands trying to balance cost/weight/ features for the many types of photogs out there. Perhaps the best way I can further express my comments is in terms of workflow. I had been craving a top access zipper for years to quickly get to my gear and felt that was all that my Shootout needed and was so glad to have it on the Axis. But I think apart from that some of those other elements, particularly the small zippered side pocket was something I really missed as I would stow my remote release, battery, keys, food, sunglasses, etc in there. Perhaps if there was another Molle attachment on the side where a zippered pocket would be is an idea to achieve that. Otherwise it's a great bag. I ended up buying the 20 and 24L and am deciding between them. Hopefully I can get to use them post pandemic.

Hi! Great video and great demonstration of the bags features. I do have a question. What stops the back flap from opening up automatically, from the weight of the gear?

It's a large YKK zipper on the back, and we've tested it to hold well over 100 pounds.

@@peterwaisnor2241 I have two Tenba bags so I don't doubt the quality but the zipper doesn't have to fail for this to become a problem. If you were to zip it up so the two zipper pulls meet in the top middle the weight of the gear could slowly pull them apart, and I'm aware that this could be avoided be zipping to one side but the idea of my gear ending up on the floor because of the way I zipped the bag gives me a bit of anxiety. I know this is necessary in order to have adjustable shoulder straps but it's the main reason I decided not to buy this bag, so if you update this model I would like to see a different approach - either attach the straps to the main body of the bag or at least add some g hooks to the load lifters and let us choose whether we want to attach them to the back panel for convince and fast access or to the main body of the bag for security.

Is the 32l able to be carried on international flights? The dimensions show just slightly larger than the airline specs?
@TenbaBags
@TenbaBags 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you're flying international aboard a US or major airline then it should work. If you are flying small flights within Europe or Asia then it would be a bit oversized.

Hi Peter, just puzzling. I find that the main compartment design should be swapped with the shootout series, where the main compartment in the Axis series should be opened from the front, because with the Molle system, if I attach any pouches to the front, it will prevent the bagpack from laying down flat. Whereas if it opened from the front, then all attached pouches would be moved together with the main flap. Otherwise, most quality designed bag i've seen so far. :)

Thanks for the comments. Since the majority of outdoor users prefer rear access and the way it keeps the harness clean, we have leaned toward rear access on many of our packs these days. But certainly I see your point about accessories attached to the MOLLE.

Does it have a strap over a side pocket?? I can see it here,but I could't find it in some photos of a backpack around the internet. I'd like to carry a tripod that way,so the strap would allow me to do that.
@peterwaisnor2241
@peterwaisnor2241 5 жыл бұрын
Regrettably, the bag in the video is a pre-production sample that had the side strap still on it. We will have to update the video and republish it. The strap was eliminated because it was superfluous. The tripod carrying is handled by the straps and cup on the front of the bag, which is much more secure and balanced.

@@peterwaisnor2241 Hey Peter, that's very unfortunate that your design team decided it was a "superfluous" strap... I just spent the last few days trying to figure out why some photos online showed that strap and why some didn't, because to me it's a great feature as it would allow users to mount a monopod or small travel tripod on the side of the bag instead of the front where it would block the whole molly system (which defeats the purpose of having a molly system, if it's inaccessible because there's a tripod in the way). Also, mounting a tripod in the middle front of a bag is not ideal from a run and gun perspective because it means you can't lay the bag down flat to open the camera compartment without first removing the tripod...If you guys eventually redesign the Axis I would highly recommend throwing some extra molly system straps or buckles to both sides that would allow users better mounting options. I'd also recommend attaching the shoulder straps to the body instead of to the back flap so that they don't get dirty or muddy as many other KZfaq reviewers have pointed out as being the number one flaw in this bag's design when you open the camera compartment. I'd jump on this model if those two things were rectified but for now my hunt for the perfect bag continues...

Thanks for reaching out. We tested the bag with over 100 pound inside. So it has been proven for more weight than anyone would ever put inside. In addition, we never had a zipper fail in the four years the bags have been for sale.

We're sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a bag with similar construction, but we've been selling the Axis backpack for about four years without issues, and we tested the zipper with over 100 pounds inside with no issues as well. We definitely do not want our users to have issues, so we test the bag in advance to make sure they don't.
