We hope you enjoy this performance and lesson sample from Casey. To see tons of other Old-time, Bluegrass, and Contest-Style fiddle lessons from Casey Willis, head here: www.fiddlevideo.com/category/....
Tennessee Waltz is a classic fiddle tune generally played out of the key of D. This is a great beginner-level fiddle tune. The advanced tutorial to this tune also adds some nice ornamentation and some fairly easy double stops, so once you have the basic melody down, make sure to check that out! Versions of this tune are played in contests and jams in styles ranging from Bluegrass, Texas-Style and Old-Time.
The full lesson includes sheet music, guitar backup tracks, multiple instructional videos, A/B video looping, video speed controls, and MP3 audio downloads.

I was showing my 7 year old violin player a Tennessee Waltz video and found yours. Wow!! She loved it and was grinning. She plays classical but I am hopeful she will turn to fiddle style. Hey a dad can try. Outstanding job. Prettiest version I have ever heard.

That is completely masterful, Casey! I love the double stops and also how you added those little bits of note variation to the basic tune. If I could play it that well, I'd be I'd play it every day until I got sick of it! hahaha, could that happen? :)

You, Sir, are brilliant! I just love your stylish embellishments and such on this tune. I'll be subscribing to your tuition site when I progress a little more beyond total basics. I'm mainly into bluegrass and other old-time American styles (despite being a born-and-bred Limey)! Please keep the bluegrass fiddle lessons coming!

Hi TranceNotes, I saw your comment on Tennessee Waltz, and I too am a born a bread limey who started with Bluegrass. Hope you are progressing nicely. I found that switching to Celtic sessions for a while, helped me tremendously over going to bluegrass sessions. It's way more playing time and a whole lot more fun. Now I'm back to learning American tunes for fiddle competitions and looking for square dancing to play for. Cheers, Ali

Chris Wright Hi Chris. I have a L.R. Baggs peizo in the bridge combined with a custom condenser mic made by Joe Mills. Signal is sent using a tip/ring/sleeve stereo jack. Although, for this recording, I'm mixing the Mills condenser signal with a Sure SM-81 located about 2 feet away. Hope that helps, sir. Take care!

Leonard Oaks hi there. The E is a wound Thomastik Dominant...#129 or #130. I've found that the wound E helps to prevent whistling/squeaking. The rest are Prim medium gauge.

@Fiddlevideocom 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The fiddle audio was generated using a combination of a condenser mic suspended over the F-hole and a Sure SM-81 condenser mic placed about 2 feet away. Joe Mills in Nashville made the mic around 20 years ago. I don't know if he's still making them, but there are a number of good mountable condenser mic options on the market these days. The verb was on the Mills mic. Cheers!

@oncleben5885
@oncleben5885 4 жыл бұрын
Be patient. Very very ... ;) when the sound is ugly it's most of the time a question of bow speed and bow pressure. Generaly two much pressure and not enough speed. Just 3 or 4 years of practice.
