6:07: I caught the last set and a half on a stream. Sabalenka had 21 double faults in the match and this match was among a stretch of 3 matches where she had 55 total double faults. This tournament was in January and if you look at her matches since the Australian Open up to now,, her ace count, which last year was high single or low double digits is now 2,3,4 a match. She is now just trying to get the ball in, but in doing so has lost one of her best weapons.

@williamford9564

The WTA and ATP would never allow that because if a player gets a serious on court injury because they played on or God forbid, a player passes out and dies on the court, the lawsuits for negligence and the public outcry for endangering player's health and safety would be ruinous for the sport. They actually had a case of this happening in one of the recent videos. Taylor Fritz called for the physio. The physio took one look at his arm and said that he could not treat him because the issue did not appear to be acute. You are delusional. The WAS LONG DEAD when Sakkari touched the net, you delusional loser. The ball counts as dead also when after the FIRST BOUNCE POINT CAN'T BE CONTINUED. There's something I don't understand about the Sabalenka incident. OK, she's made a double fault, lost confidence completely and made a lot of others. Not at all at the same level, but I also play tennis and this already happened to me, so I understand that. But, why does the umpire get involved in that ? Making double faults or serving underarm is not forbidden by the rules and the umpîre sees that Sabalenka does her best and surely doesn't miss on purpose. And she's not her coach, so she has no reason to try to help her either. So, why is the umpire interfering with that ?

Pro tournaments need to use Hawkeye Live AND video replay for double bounces. It amazes me that as spectators we can see multiple replays within seconds of something happening live, and this is anywhere in the world, but the officials that are right there and local are unable to access the exact same material? Incredible. In the time it takes for a player to complain and get a supervisor to the court, the on court umpire could have reviewed the action using a monitor on the chair, on the big screen for the spectators, or, maybe use their own smartphone to see the same replay we do. In this modern age when literally EVERY spectator has access to a smartphone, the fact that umpires cant use this technology is just criminal. I feel like so many refs don't know how to properly explain things. They're right, but their ability to explain themselves concisely is terrible. Perhaps it's due to English not being a first language in many cases, but at the same time you should know how to explain rules and regulations better than anyone. Also, the ref stand should have a monitor with audio that can show replays of points with sound to check the timing of things or see something that was initially missed.
@einarsd4
@einarsd4 2 жыл бұрын
English is 2nd biggest language in the world. This umpire wasn't able to explain his case, because he didn't had any. Maria Sakkari was destroying that umpire with true facts about tennis rules. It was easy for her. Bachi never had any point in this argument. He was badly losing to Sakkari in that argument. That umpire clearly didn't know when the ball counts as dead. He clearly had no clue that ball counts as dead when after the first bounce ball wasn't returned or if after the first bounce it is impossible to return the ball back. In this case Sakkari made forehand ball bounced out of Merten's reach and point was over since it was impossible for a point to continue. Which means that point goes to Sakkari.
@parkercrossland410
@parkercrossland410 4 ай бұрын
@@einarsd4 It only becomes dead upon its second bounce. If it hasn't bounced twice, the point is still live. It does not matter if the other player would physically not be capable of getting there. If it did then there would be exposure to a judgement call of timing, which is not good within a sport that wants to be taken seriously.

@@parkercrossland410 You just proved how clueless about tennis rules you are. It does matter you clown. You it seems don't know what is winner. A winner is any shot that can't be physically returned and is within singles court. Maria Sakkari was completely correct. Her shot was a winner. If a shot can't be returned then a ball is dead and point ends. Point continues as long as the ball can be returned back. The first shot that can't be returned ends the point. Question to the tennis experts, why do tennis players tend to get away with the abuse they make towards the umpire and line officials. It’s like tennis attracts diva athletes. In other sports you get penalized heavy for that. Just recently what zverev did to that umpire. The rules need to be strict.
@The-Rio
@The-Rio 2 жыл бұрын
for each violation/warning there's a fine and if you get a certain number of violations/warnings (idk how many) there's a point penalty and you can also get defaulted if you get a certain number of them in a match

Zverev did get heavily penalized. And comparing tennis to other sports is ridiculous, like apples to ski shoes.

@@The-Rio It's more like how much crap an umpire can take from the players and when the time is to draw the line. I mean, there are players that get away with too much stuff, for example Kyrgios who sometimes says terrible things to umpires but rarely gets penalized. I think it's up to the umpires when to step up and tell those divas to shut the fuck up or else.
@MarioBeart
@MarioBeart 2 жыл бұрын
Because they know those things are said in moment of frustration and anger. Tennis is the most individual sport and if you play it at this level you know how tough it can be for your nerves. There's also a line of course, the players know it, they can never go too far, many times when this happens the umpire reminds this to the player and the player immediately stops (I remember when Collins accused an Australian umpire of being corrupt in favor of Barty, who's Australian).
@noroshut1082
@noroshut1082 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarioBeart yet that's not an excuse to say or do whatever to a chair umpire because sports is all about discipline; a player's ability to control themselves under pressure.

The yips, through and through. She's practiced her serve thousands and thousands of times. "Forgetting" how to get even a lob in play is 100% mental, which leads to technique breakdown. It must be a horrible feeling.

Notice how most players who've struggled with service yips have a high ball toss. Sabalenka, Zverev, Sharapova, Safina, Kournikova. I'm obviously not a pro coach, but I wonder why none of those players ever seemed to try lowering their toss? It must make timing unnecessarily difficult when you're waiting for the ball to fall several feet before you hit it
