You can move quicker to the ball in tennis maximizing your footwork ability if you apply the "just in case" concept! 🎾 Free Forehand POWER COURSE: www.feeltennis.net/forehand-p...
In the last two videos you saw how we can apply the "just in case" concept to the split step and early preparation and today we'll look at how we can use it when moving to the ball.
Split Step Just In Case: • The Split Step In Tenn...
Prepare Early Just In Case: • Prepare Tennis Strokes...
I've shared a more extensive video on this topic not long ago explaining how we need to "beat the ball" to the meeting point so today's video is a little refresh of that topic and looking at it from a different perspective.
Beat The Ball To The Hitting Point: • How To Set Up Early Fo...
The reason why we have to "learn" how to move towards the ball and the meeting point is because our intuitive way of moving towards the ball doesn't work in tennis.
The intuitive way of moving is to wait until we can definitely read the speed and direction of the ball and then move how it's necessary but in the game of tennis you'll be usually too late on fast and difficult balls.
Therefore we need to move "just in case" very quick from the start preparing for the worst case scenario.

Very much enjoying and learning a lot of this JUST IN CASE series. Maybe a series on defensive situations for the future?

Aren’t "just in case" ideas exactly what we need to be better in defense?

@@feeltennis yes, but in the situations where it's too late for just in case preparation 😂

It's never too late for preparation, that's why we do it "just in case". We prepare so early that we are ready no matter what kind of ball is coming to us. Perhaps you are referring to a ball where you have to hit it on the run, meaning there was still no time to set up with our feet? We always have time to prepare the stroke (meaning unit turn and short backswing) but obviously we don't always have time to position for the stroke if the ball was hit too far from us. If the latter is the case you want to know more about, check this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrOHlKemv7WodJ8.html. Or be more specific in what exactly you would like to know...

Good wake up call for a lot of us, thank you 😅 One similar question: when do you start preparing? When the ball crosses the net or even before?

As soon as you recognise the direction of the ball, see previous video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLl1iLB2zL3ap5s.html

Nice video. How about a video on how to position yourself given the shot you just made? For instance, if you hit a good or bad drop shot, where should ideally defend this?

Recovery position will be covered in the next video but for your specific question where to position based on a drop shot, that's a very specific topic. It mostly depends on your skills. Are good with touch volley, lob volleys? If yes, you can move in to try and volley opponent's shot after they reach your drop shot. If you're not good with volleys and you're better with groundstrokes and lobs, then wait more around the baseline and use your strengths to play out the point.

Keep pushing yourself always just a bit over your comfort zone and your body will gradually adapt and your stamina will increase.
