I have a simple tennis tip for you today that may help you hit your forehands and backhands more cleanly and effortlessly.
One of more common mistakes you may do is to accelerate the racket too late - meaning when it's already quite close to the ball - and you accelerate it in a jerky manner.
That causes you to mishit the ball and therefore not get good power out of your stringbed.
While you do have to accelerate the racket head quite fast when you want to hit a winner or impart tons of topspin, you really don't have to do that when rallying from the baseline in a neutral rally and your goal is higher consistency.
You'll learn a very simple "roller coaster" concept that I feel when I hit from the baseline in practice sessions or sometimes even in neutral rallies during the match.
There are many elements of your stroke technique and tennis in general that you need to work in practice sessions and surely you don't need to hit all those shots with maximum speed.
You need a reliable shot hit effortlessly so that you don't tire in a few minutes and have to pick up balls all the time.

Hi Tomas Thank for your videos. I have been playing for about 30 years and have had different coaches. But I have never been able to produce a solid hard forehand. But after having seen your videos I can say NOW I GET IT! That is an amazing feeling and for which I am very grateful. Keep up the good work👍

He really is the best on youtube. His videos on contact point and timing changed my game. I worked those drills and my stroke fell into place and my shots were fire. I honestly think timing and hitting late are the biggest things beginners make mistakes on.

The rally ball mindset is crucial to having a consistent game. I had to consciously stop myself from trying to hit my best shot and as a result my consistency shot up dramatically. This coupled with the "how high to hit the ball" video really changed my ability to play for the better!

Thank you! Perhaps the biggest fault in my game is the racket momentum is too late, I started to think more and more about the Nike symbol, because it's so similar to what you're explaining in this video.

Summary: if forehand contact is not clean, or if there is excess strain, it may be because you are accelerating the racket too late in the swing. We want a *steady racket head speed* during contact to ensure there are no jerky movements. (note that, conversely, for a short ball that you are attacking, you do actually want to have accelerating racket through contact zone. But not for easy baseline rallying) Detailed explanation from 1:26 ... Demonstration @3:04 @4:00.. use the racket's momentum to contact the ball in the hitting zone. Very interesting. Have not thought of it this way before.

Hi Tomaz, I tried to hit the ball with your roller-coaster technique. It's really effortless and it's an easy hit. it is quite stable. But lag and snap technique is more effective in short and hard balls to catch when my timing is good. Am I right?

You should have emphasized the gravity assist you get when accelerating the racket head during the downward phase of the swing path. This further adds to a more effortless/smooth acceleration of the racket.

Tomaz I found that sliding my hand down so my little finger is almost off the bottom of the racket handle is a great help in hitting forehand’s. I have better control and racket head speed. Does this sound correct?

Hi, I thought you said in another lesson that the motion of the racket is a slow and steady motion during the winding of the body followed by a "woooosh" motion during the uncoiling of the body. I have been practicing this idea and that whoosh feels like it is an acceleration but I could be interpreting this wrong? Edit: It makes sense after watching this again

I was thinking the exact same thing because in the other video with hitting it like vroom instead of boom I thought he was saying to accelerate through the swing gradually but in this video he is saying you don't accelerate but you keep the same speed so I'm confused.

I think these are two different things, in the other video, gradually means in the preparation before hitting the ball and in this video he's talking about constant acceleration after the contact point

First time I don 't agree with your ideas.. I think this approach id counterproductive unless you are teaching middle aged to old guys who just want to keep the ball in play without too much effort. I have a very limited understanding of tennis but one of the few things I understand is that acceleration is key, and anything that stops that is a mistake. I think the problem is instead that a lot of player (including me) have the tendency to accelerate when they are too close to the ball, or even after they hit, causing those horrible movements you show at the beginning of the video, when the arms bends during contact or immediately after. I think the cause is typically late preparation, weak timing and the intuitive (but wrong) feeling the the only part that counts to impart spin and momentum to the ball is the one close to impact. I have found that alternating shadow swings and real swings helps but I would love to see some exercises to develop and reinforce a good preparation, a clean and efficient "start of the swing".
@sleepinglion1192
@sleepinglion1192 5 жыл бұрын
Tech Publica maybe you could incorporate both. Accelerate arm and racket on down swing, then lag and snap like usual at impact.
@juicetest
@juicetest 3 жыл бұрын
need to emphasize that acceleration of the roller coaster is done by gravity alone not with the arm. As recreational players will tense up the arm for acceleration too early

hit like this the ball is to weak and your opponent will control your ball easily. High racquet speed is very important

You can accelerate gradually reaching whatever racquet speed you want and then strike the ball and follow through steadily, without anymore acceleration, so to speak.
