Tennis Rankings Explained
Among his many trophies, records and achievements, Roger Federer boasted both the most consecutive & total weeks as the men’s World Number 1. While Novak Djokovic successfully chased down the latter in March 2021, Federer’s record of four-and-a-half consecutive years as the best player in the world does not look in danger of falling any time soon. But how do you get there? How exactly are the tennis rankings calculated?

It'd be so nice if you made a video telling us about player earnings. Like how long do you get you money after winning a tournament. And do you get bonuses

@@nilaytrivedi4239 sorry for the late reply! It was to do with 2009 changes to the tour (when the Master's 1000 series began). Both Hamburg & Monte Carlo were to be downgraded but both filed lawsuits. That's as much knowledge as we have. There is some more information on the Wikipedia page. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_Tennis_Professionals#2009_changes Hope that helps!

Can you please explain the distinction between year end no 1 and normal no 1? Or is that the same? I'm just confused cause year end no 1 is based on the yearly race ranking and not the normal ranking ....

Can someone explain to me how Federer still has points for the Miami open even though he hasn't played there since 2019
@BaselineTennis
@BaselineTennis 2 жыл бұрын
Due to Covid-19, the ATP changed the rankings system so not to penalise players who couldn't travel during the early stages of the pandemic. As a result, the best results from the 2019 or 2020 edition of certain events, were taken for their ranking. This however ended and are slowly transitioning back to the usual system. After Miami 2022, Federer's points from 2019 will drop off.

Great video this but I’m yet to find out why Djokovic didn’t lose his 2000 points from not being in this Aussie open. It doesn’t make sense. Nor does it make sense why Medvedevs points went up since he got to the same stage of this grand slam! Anyone know the answer?
@BaselineTennis
@BaselineTennis 2 жыл бұрын
I believe that the 2021 Aus Open points will fall off on 21 Feb, as that’s when the 2021 tournament was played/ended. Points typically last for 12-months.

Seems overly complicated. Do players monitor and check their own points? Do the organisers make arithmetical mistakes? How does the wildcard system work?

The ATP website has a good breakdown, players are likely to keep a track of points so they know when they have to play to "defend" any. With Wildcards, we are in the process of making a video about it, stay tuned....

It is like the GPA or CWA system in Schools or College.Somehow like some kind of SAT or LSAT System there. It requires men and women good at Stats to fill in the information unto the Computer for Ranking Points and situations.

How come ? I'm sceptical but not surprised. Women play less in GS events but are nevertheless paid the same as males, which means that by the hour they are paid more.

@@vhyles Only in Shenzhen WTA Finals they were paid so high. U r surprised. I was shocked when I heard this in 2019, and searched internet to confirm it's true. Exact figure I don't remember. But it is definitely more than $3.5mil :)

@aaronusernamefiller9435
@aaronusernamefiller9435 3 жыл бұрын
@@vhyles it’s a fixed fee so there is no hourly pay regardless of how long you pay so you can’t compare it to being paid by the hour. Women are paid equally because they bring in just as much ticket sales for event organisers as the men as seen by the full capacity crowds on days designated for women’s quarter finals, semi finals and finals
@vhyles
@vhyles 3 жыл бұрын
@@aaronusernamefiller9435 women play less in Grand Slams events. If Federer spent 30 hours on court, and Serena Williams 20 hours, but they get the same prize money at the end, if we divide the money with the hours spent on court you'll see that by the hour Williams won more money than Federer even though she worked less hours (spent less time on court due to males playing best of 5 sets and women playing best of 3 sets in GS events)
