Your content is great my man. If I watched stuff like this when I was learning to play in High School (1996-2000) it would have helped so much. I didn’t have money for lessons so just spent a lot of time on the court trying to figure out how to get better. There is such a “paywall” in tennis in my experience, if the ATP wants more kids playing the sport they should support people like you making content that is freely accessible and doesn’t require a membership to a club, expensive private lessons, and knowing the right people. Hoping you can find a way to thrive in this climate as it sounds like financially the tour is unrealistic long term. I’m a fan, wish you the best and looking forward to more of your work.

This has been a real eye opener & really good advice. “Your norm/groove” vs shots & easy balls that are not aligned with it & how to deal with them is basically everything in tennis. This explains why great players can lose to pushers that hit lousy shots all the time. I recently lost to someone claiming to be 3.5-4.0 competitive, while I am 4.0 or very close to being one overall. Turns out he was just someone that was fast and hits like a 3.0. I ended up hitting his bad & randomly placed shots that ended up everywhere, out, but this also has to do with night fall coming + the moisture in the air that came with it. The results of that + his awkward shots = my shots kept going out. If I had just kept the ball more neutral instead of playing my game in an uncomfortable territory, make him try to win it instead, I wouldn’t have lost.

Great series, Karue! We have been upping our live feed and point play drills in practice and it is amazing to see the increase in improvement compared to balls being fed. Don't get me wrong they have their place, but we are probably more like 80/20 now during our practices. Thanks again!

That’s great to hear. Absolutely, you have to play a lot of points. Whenever match play can be incorporated into practice in ways to work on certain strokes or tactics, that's the best way to train

Really useful. Thank you. I just had the herky jerky experience that you mentioned during the match. I played well in practice and also the match but I just couldn’t adjust well enough to the other player’s slicing, dicing and excellent placement. It’s really good advice and hopefully with practice I’ll find ways to deal with it.

Hi Karue, I've been playing tennis since I was 10 (now I'm 38). I have never seen anyone break down the complexities of the strokes and tactics in such a simple and digestible format. You and Mouratoglou are the rock stars of tennis internet coaching. Much respect for the work you do, and my backhand has gotten so much cleaner as a result of watching you and practice.

Good tip about 'manage' and 'attack'. I've heard this before but totally forgot it. Watching you make me realize that I don't have any 'weapons' like your deep ball cross court and backhand down the line. I'll practice some 'weapons' so I can apply your tactics. Thanks. Subscribed.

Great video. Really helpful. my biggest improvement has come from playing more forehands and hitting most of them cross-court. it keeps me in the points longer. Still hit the backhand a lot but using the forehand seems to raise my percentage of winning points. Have worked on my footwork to get around the ball and from a losing record have moved to a winning record without hitting any extra balls in practice.

Thinking about combo is so important. Even strong amateur do the mistake after hitting a very great shot they "stop playing" and then they arrive late to an "easy" or "weak" ball, and end up losing a point they "shouldn't lose" and from that point it gets in their head and it's all going down from there.

down the line back hand was always my favourite shot as well. Even slice down the line is sweet. A dude i hit with a lot always complained i never hit him the same ball twice. So sometimes id hit 4 flat then 4 topspin and sometimes very random til he cried again lol. But now he is playing league and beating all his opponents. Its best to have a variety of shots snd feel out your opponent especially at lower levels sometimes spin and placement wins and theres no need for much risk

My uncle was the #1 player at Guam's Naval base in 1976. (That's what the plaque said). Sets are the only way to improve he said. So you can learn the deep neutral balls and make adjustments, not just hitting hard regardless. To this day I always play practice points to engage, prior to practive sets when I instruct. Kids who follow this, always make the high school teams in a competitive California district.
