@@phantomtroupe8430this applies to Graf even more. Her numbers would not be as inflated if Seles wasn't stabbed.

@@AS-js7kb yes very true. She would also have about half the amount of GS and overall titles if Seles had remained dominant in 93
@user-jz8mc5gj6yАй бұрын
@@AS-js7kb you Seles fanatics need to learn better coping mechanisms overall Steffi owned Seles 10-5 head to head lead for Steffi pre-stabbing head to head Steffi led 6-4

This list proves that just because you have rankings records doesn't mean you are true tennis great! LOL As an example you can see players like Safina, Pliskova or Jankovic, who hasn't won a single grand slam tournament and yet they all managed to become #1 tennis players at some point! Neither of them are tennis greats by any sane measures! Then on the flip side you have someone like Venus Williams with 7 grand slam titles, who is certified ATG only being ranked as #1 for a mere 11 weeks, in comparison Barty with only 3 grand slam titles has been ranked as #1 for 121 weeks, which is even more than Justine Henin, who has won more than twice as many slams as Barty did...LOL Rankings records only matter as additional argument point for greatness for those players, that manage to also win multiple slams (prefferably more than 4 of them!), then ranknings can be seen as a nice bonus! I'd rather have Venus' 7 gs titles and only her 11 weeks as #1 (btw none of these 11 weeks span the period, that would let her end the year as #1 best player for that specific season! Meaning she was never able to finish the year as world number one ever! think about it, 7 times gs champion didn't finish the year as #1 even once in her entire career! That should tell you everything you need to know about rankings records...) than Wozniacki's career - 71 weeks (more than a year!) but only 1 grand slam title! Once in a while you have Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert caliber of ultimate tennis great, where their career resume is much more logical and well rounded accross the board, but as practice shows you have to be in the GOAT tier in order to be that well rounded! Same goes for men's tennis as well! With the exceptions of Lendl and Connors both of whom had almost Sampras' level of ranking related numbers, but both won only 8 slams compared to Pete's 14...but other than that in men's tennis ranking records are more or less logical...

I agree this is more of a measure of consistency than greatness.
