Bringing the legs up and through the swing definitely helps with the action of creating more topspin. Legs and follow through are key. Wrist action for beginners and newer players i try not to teach because it develops bad habits. Been teaching for 15 years and clearly this type of advice is more for an elite player when the foundation is there.

Well yeah obviously, you definitely don't teach something as complex as this to someone that's been playing for 1 or 2 years.

A player who becomes very skilled starts using more wrist action based on his or her judgments. Sometimes beginners take tips from people like this on youtube and they will end up hurting themselves or throwing themselves into bad habits. All im saying is that one needs to develop foundational skills before using alot of wrist action. Any force moving in the upwards motion being legs, shoulders, wrists will create topspin. Swingplane is just as important for creating the perfect swing

Maybe these teaching tips are staged much like prank videos or magic acts? The players know what they're doing already,. It's scripted to make P.M. look like a genius who can change a player with just his words of wisdom. It's informative for anyone watching who wants to learn, but true 🐴💩 on the authenticity scale.

If you stay low and fix your legs, you can’t do the rotation with your hips which gives power because the body works as one unit. In men’s game all Federer, Nadal and specifically Jokivic does the rotation with legs and with a jump as well. I think this video may apply to women’s game but in men’s game the power is completely different and you need the rotation with your legs which won’t allow you to stay low as video suggested. Measuring this video with the game style of the current no 1 mr Djokovic this video doesn’t apply to men’s game. Only valid for women’s game where power game is not the main factor.

Exactly. He says a bullshit. I m a former player..in mens game loading your back leg and spring up gives you more energy into topspin. You don t have to spring up at the same time when you engage the racket, cause in this case you ll mishit. But first you engage the sracket followed by your legs. @@scottingle1202 listen, i m a former atp player and tennis coach. What he says here that you have to stay crouched during and after the shot it s a complete bullshit. If you train in spain in whatever professional academy you pick one they will teach you that to generate more spin you have to load more tha back leg. You don t want to sring up with your legs along with the racket because yes you ll misshit, but you want to drive your legs after you engage the racket. topspin is generated by dropping your racket head below your grip level. But you can add momentum with legs. You people know nothing and talk. I’m not saying he s a bad coach but in this case he said a bullshit

You stay low for certain shots if your opponent's pressing you extra hard but if you have time and you are prepared you need to use your legs to increase weight transfer and you go up with the ball you take it with you... But at certain learning stages it's good to stay down and work the top spin once you get the hang of that you could incorporate legs and lifting while you hit top spin but the timing has to be there and the confidence

As a coach for over 20 years myself (baseball). This student may jump quite a bit. By telling her to stay down and use more wrist will probably help her find a happy medium between less legs and more wrist. We don’t have the benefit of seeing before and after. This is an Uber successful coach and to say he is wrong or doesn’t know what he is talking about is silly!

Please see Black SpiderMan’s post and the comments. You may want to check on his background, results as a junior player and leaving tennis for years working for his very wealthy father before opening then opening his own academy (?) and then assess and see if your perspective changes. Does he have a coaching license? At most clubs, to teach, you need certification, unless you own the club/academy of course. I suspect that you’re a certified coach who was trained and passed exams. There’s also video of him playing and you can assess his hitting level.

Wow, i'm from a table tennis background, and there the spin and force of the ball are generated mostly with the legs, you can clearly see that table tennis players have thin arms and huge legs, like Zhang Jike. The hip rotation is a key factor. Although similar in the game rules, table tennis and tennis are quite different in technique

Not that you couldn't transfer your weight with your legs, which is mlre complex than rising from a fixed point.

This tip is for players who have played for 5+ years. Anyone who Is watching this below that, please dont try this. It's better to practice a free swing for now and work on wrist action later because this will develop bad habits when used early on (e.g. shots where you don't use arm power and just wrist is a bad habit). Pros use this to adjust their spin later when they master their swing.

Nadal would like a word. Normally his on the money with his rationalization but if the GOAT of Spin largely relies on his biggest muscles to deliver the most monstrous spin the game has seen, I think we need to rethink what we’re teaching. BUT he does have a point that this is another way to hit with topspin. See Kyrgios’s forehand for an example that follows this criteria. That’s tennis though; many ways to play effectively. That’s what makes it beautiful girl.
