Thanks for this stimulating and well documented video. May I however suggest that you make one about the grip for the one handed backhand? While the majority of the players would rely upon an eastern grip, some professional (D. Thiem, S. Wawrinka) rely upon something intermediate between continental and eastern while some others (J. Henin, R. Gasquet) are definitely more towards a semi-western one. What about the pros and the cons of these grips?

Thank you so much, you have validated my guess. By looking at Roger backhand multiple times I have thought that he is really not rolling but I was not sure about it as the coaches always said to roll. Your explanation is spot on, and has given me so much confidence. Thank you so much!!

I agree I do not think Rodger Federer rolled his wrist, but he sure knew how to whip a backhand, and usually at very hard angles Cross Court..

I guess you highlight as best the key point for 1hbh. I've already tested my backend by focusing on my flaw, mostly using the legs properly and keep the arm and wrist in solid on contact. I can confirm that this improve my technique and create a lot of spin with minimal effort. Using the provider technique also lowering issue on arm.

Video has some really good content. Oddly though, he talks so slowly that the video is actually more watchable if you speed playback up to 1.25x

Which racket are you using in this video?

When you are turned with racket up, your head must not move forward during the acceleration phase. If you move your head or your hips forward it's like you're writing and someone moves the paper while you're writing.

When I keep my arm bent at takeback I struggle to get it straight by contact. However, when I take it back with a straight arm, I tend to be able to keep it straight the whole thru swing. Is straight arm an acceptable takeback or does it create other issues?

You should not be taking the arm back straight, as soon as you start seeing a fast paced ball you be late every-time. You have to shorten your backswing. You do not need to have a straight arm at contact. Watch the most recent upload it covers this topic

I thought you must always have a straight arm at contact for the 1HBH?@@Tennisdoctorofficial
