I always loved Pam Shriver. She's been criticized as being slow on the court but did garner some great victories during her playing career. I always thought she was beautiful and even had a crush on her at one time. She still looks stunning.

I love Pam’s humility. She was always in singles under the shadow of Navratilova , Evert , Mandlikova , and then all of these players were dominated by Graf. She handled this burden with grace and it inspired her to improve and had wins finally over Evert after 15 losses as Evert entered her mid 30’s . She had two big wins over Martina at the US Open . She started her career beating Martina in sf and barely lost to Evert at 78 Open 7-5,6-4. She was within points of winning these sets . She edged Martina 7-6,7-6. Pam was mentally strong and her serve at the beginning was even better than Martina’s . Then she suffered an injury to her shoulder that could’ve taken her out of the game yet she adjusted her serve which took 35 percent off her effectiveness and possibly kept her from reaching another slam final and or possibly winning a slam . She handled it with grace . She deserves this honor, she’s a credit to the sport . She spent the balance of her speech thanking others . A humble champion . Her match against a very top form Graf in 88 , the year Graf won all 4 slam events plus Olympic Gold shows just how great a serve and volleyer Pam truly is . She beat Graf when Chris and Martina could not that year . If her shoulder had not been injured early on think of how many service games she could’ve won and how many tie breakers could’ve won her some bigger matches . When you can hold serve more often you have more trophies. No one was going to beat Graf from the baseline - unless your Monica Seles . Vicario did it once along with Sabatini but both times Graf played under the weather with either back or shoulder problems. One note about this is that I wished Chrissie could’ve come but she was very pregnant days from giving birth . When o finally beat Shriver , Pam tells this story often , when she returned to her hotel Chris had sent a oersonslly written letter with flowers congratulating her on her win against her. The letter encouraged her being an American to keep going forward because she believed in her. Everyone loved Pam and this speech shows why. She’s an excellent broadcaster and has a knack for getting the players to open up with her humor and self effacing laugh. Her gratitude is the secret to her happiness . She’s suffered the loss of a sister and husband and is rock solid . I’ve been to 4 of her matches in person and I can speak of that great serve . The other strength especially in doubles is her consistent service return - low and directed at the feet of the incoming server to the net. She possessed the skills perhaps instinctually for doubles . She set up so many shots for Martina and along with Martina had one of the most concussive overheads . All of her weaknesses did not factor in the game of doubles. She completely covered her half of the court with the speed she didn’t have for entire court as in singles. The days her serve worked she could beat anyone . Living with that capability, having that as a weapon really had to be frustrating because she knew she could make a slam final of the serve was on . I’m happy for her that she’s a great broadcaster because it keeps her in the game she played so well . Her 109 march streak in doubles with Martina will stand the test of time . I think she reached her potential and she was in top 10 often top 5 for over 10 years . She wasn’t a fluke. She had some bad days losing to Turnbul on occasion but beat Tracy at Wimbledon and Australian open when tracy was at top of her game . Congratulations Pam ! This honor was well deserved.

She is so well-spoken and intelligent. You do not always get this behavior in tennis, but she and Martina for that matter, are impressive. I, also, loved her game. It was a gutsy kind of attacking game, which I enjoy. Congratulations to one of my favorites!

You're so right. Didn't think of her as attractive at all but she's actually pretty here. Pam Shriver is a very tough woman. That's a good thing in an individual sport. She has been successful and will continue to be.

I was a very big Pam Shriver (& McEnore & Seles fan, now a Federer fan!). I remember waiting for the BBC Sports Roundup to hear about McEnroe &Pam Shriver’s progress through the tournaments. And how crushingly disappointed I was when I heard over the radio that Kathy Jordan had beaten Pam in the Wimbledon quarters in 1984 . Enjoyed watching your induction video

Self absorbed and humorless Pam Shriver apparently didn't do enough to annoy tennis fans by conducting boring interviews with baseball and basketball players over live action play of exciting men's matches, so she swerved into the bizarre by interviewing the commissioner of the NBA, discussing the importance of raising women basketball players salary to equal that of the men's. Meanwhile, Federer and Dimitrov were grinding it out in a 3 and a half hour match while Serena finished her match in 44 minutes. So much for equal pay for equal work. Good job Pam.
