Unless you threaten their family, they treat you as if you were just another creature in the forest. They ignore you....unless you're in their way. That silverback was quite patient. There is a process by which mountain gorillas are 'tamed' to get used to the presence of strange humans. It's called habituation. For 2-3 years prior to introducing families of gorillas to tourists, guides and rangers interact with the gorillas to get them used to people. During Covid, when tourism came to a halt, it was feared the gorillas would revert to a more wild state, so the guides and rangers continued to visit them on a frequent basis.

@@exnihilonihilfit6316 saying that about great apes is contrary to everything we've learned from research. Theyre about as complex and intelligent as small human children in many ways, and beyond that in others as they mature (though not to the level of adult human general intelligence ability). They're individuals, they can understand things in the abstract, they make tools, and have complex communication and culture norms, and societal knowledge which varies between groups and locales and diffuses at distance (such as different processes or tools for similar tasks, same species, different culture). They mediate complex social strife between themselves. Them not having the exact same kind and heights of the same kind of intelligence and vocal+dextrous ability is simply a matter of their different evolutionary pressures, but does not undermine their sentience. I bet you're trash at climbing trees or superhuman physical efforts of strength or speed. They needed that to take advantage of the environment while roaming, more than being able to change the environment itself like humans eventually did and do (now for the much worse, endangering these cousins of ours)

It's not about kneeling to him but more about showing signs of being submissive, of not threatening his position as the dominant male. @@sunburstisland2560 I wouldnt be communicating with it tho. You dont know how they will respond.
@sunburstisland25603 жыл бұрын
@@kiauni6818 Well, true, but I think it depends on the animal, and of course how much you know about it. Like, some animals you're supposed to run, or climb a tree, or stay still, or act big and be noisy. It's also possible that the camera man has some sort of "moral obligation" to do that, so that if the Gorilla does attack, it will attack him instead. Maybe he has the Gorilla equivalent of Bear spray, or has a weapon or something that makes his chance of survival higher than that of the other people present. I'll just leave all that to the experts, I don't plan to ever be close enough to a Gorilla to know any better XD

gorillas are much more intelligent than we have given them credit for. it would surprise me if that silverback was thinking, "i am going to scare the living shit out of this people just for fun!" he didn't appear to feel to threatened at all. how anyone could kill and eat such am amazing creature is beyond rational thought. to me, it would be like eating a human.
